Using the vast Californian desert landscape as a dramatic backdrop for their work and activists impactful speech as an alarming wake-up call, Saman and Sasan Oskouei created a riveting video titled Our House is on Fire. ⠀ ⠀ I want you to panic. I want you to act as if your house was on fire. @gretathunberg ⠀ ⠀ In some way turning Gretas inspiring words into poetic reality, Icy and Sot built a frame of an archetypal home and set it on fire. Allowing for the untouched surrounding nature to be seen between the blazing framework of the house, the artists suggest looking at the wider picture in which the Earth is our only home. The video shows the reversed footage of their installation being swallowed by flames and crumbling to the ground, creating an illusion of burning pieces of wood rising up and forming the familiar structure. hi friends. jaymie here. like actually jme. i’ve been in robot mode for a few days and am finally slowing down a little. thanks for your texts offering many “i’m glad you are okay” messages. really, thank you. i’m glad i’m okay too. this story has been gaining some traction and i’d like to acknowledge a few things—being in a situation where you have to make the decisions is really intense. when we decided to turn back toward the car (which also meant toward the smoke/fire), i really hopped there would be a ranger or a sign or something sharing an evacuation plan or literally ANY information for getting to safety. we came across a few people on the trail and let them know what we knew—there’s a new fire. it’s close. we’re evacuating. but when we arrived to the trailhead/car there was nothing. then we passed others driving in all directions. at one point we slowed down to try and speak with a car and they sped on by. there was no information. no plan. just a bunch of people trying their best. regardless of the lack of information, we had a lot of resources available to us. we had a weeks worth of food, able bodies, healthy lungs and limbs. we also had three people carrying mini inReaches. this is a device you buy and then pay for monthly to use to communicate with people, check weather, and track your location. we were able to use this to help us plunge into the unknown events unfolding around us. but there wasn’t much information for our friends to find out either. the internet is much slower than real time. but we were able to confirm three things—1) this is a new fire. 2) the coordinates of the fire. 3) a friend got a hold of the ranger for us and relayed to us “the ranger said if you exit to reds meadow you should be safe.” to be continued... - @jmeshe on Instagram

Santa Cruz, I am holding you in my heart. Thank you to everyone who checked in and supported me these last 2 days. The love and appreciation I feel for the firefighters, emergency workers, and reporters fighting on the front lines of a true nightmare is flooding my whole body. Yesterday I had full-body goosebumps as my neighbors and I watched burnt oak and bay leaves descend from the sky onto our front yard, black as night against a sky of orange. It’s been perpetual dawn for days. Frankly, it’s been terrifying. We are feeling grief and terror watching the fires ravage our beloved Mountains and creep closer in, but as I watched people play or have dates on the beach today (I took a moment and walked down), my heart sank. PLEASE pay attention and help if you have not been doing so. I was sure this was collectively felt until today, when I realized soberly that it is not. Please pay attention, and please help. Yesterday I evacuated our office in Felton and my home in the Santa Cruz Hills, packing up a few boxes of belongings and my key camera equipment, and have landed in a safe home with a friend, near the harbor. This week the last tendrils of someone else’s energy within were burnt away 𓆃 And with that. A whole world opened up through me again. The first blooms after a forest fire. Tenderly and gently, but determinedly blooming with life again. Without fear, without judgement, without words that weren’t mine. My world. My devotion to myself and this beautiful life started to flow like a rapid river again. After months of confusion. The most loving arms of the universe reached down for me, after denying myself of them for so long. I found myself wrapped in Love I thought I’d lost. Bursting and spilling over the banks that I’d put up for too long, out of fear that the way I related to life was too much. It never was. I never was too much. I never said that. Someone else did. Living life sacredly, listening to the messengers I find in each breath, the sway of trees, the cracks in the concrete, the earth’s pulse, is something I reclaim as my own again. There has never been another way, even if I try. Life seduces and takes me in ways I can’t resist anymore. I missed this. I missed hearing the forest whispers, the gentle spark of the sun within, I missed spirit weaving it’s way through to me every second - and me replying with a ‘thank you’ instead of ‘not now’. If you’ve followed me for a while, I’m so happy to share that I’ll be sharing prose and poetry again like I used to. This is healing for me first and foremost. I will be sharing content that feels nourishing to me, because we have to stop abandoning ourselves for others. 𓆃 The door’s always open for you to leave if it doesn’t resonate anymore, that’s ok and beautiful for both of us to be in spaces that serve us. And just a note going forward- any references in my writing to god/spirit - I use this term as a reference to the loving presence that I sense everyday, not in the traditional theistic sense nor attached to any specific religion. 🦋🤍 - @farahrising on Instagram
