Check out the tiny windows and half-doors on these beautiful cottages. The British placed a tax on window light, which is actually the origin of the term daylight robbery. Ever the masters at fiddling the system, the Irish home owners started to install the half doors as a way around the tax. They would open the top half to let the light in while keeping the chickens and farm animals out, and most importantly.... Povestea acestei aşezări antice a început în urmă cu mai bine de 2300 de ani, când se ştie că aici exista o puternică davă a băştinaşilor geţi. Ce este mai ciudat este faptul că numele său e de provenienţă celtă, Arrubium fiind una dintre cele două dovezi clare (alături de Noviodunum) ale prezenţei celţilor britolagi în Dobrogea noastră. Celţii ne-au lăsat numele şi au mers mai departe, pe drumul migraţiei lor continentale. Arrubium şi-a continuat povestea şi până în secolul I d.H a continuat să fie una dintzre aşezările getice importante ale Scytiei Minor. A făcut parte din uniunea tribală a regelui Rhemaxos iar unii specialişti afirmă că această cetate ar fi fost şi sub stăpânirea regelui Zyraxes, eroul care îi bătuse pe romanii generalului Hybrida, în lupta de la Histria (cca 61 î.H). Geţii nu au putut rezista însă prea mult în faţa Romei iar Arrubium, alături de toate oraşele Dobrogei, a căzut sub stăpânirea Marelui Imperiu. Ştim astăzi cu certitudine că în anul 99 d.H, în timpul lui Traian, aşezarea de la Măcin era sediul unui detaşament de cavalerie (alla dardanorum), format din soldaţi dardani (traco-iliri). Această unitate a rămas cantonată la Arrubium cel puţiin până în anul 241 d.H, când este datat un alt izvor epigrafic care atestă aici prezenţa cavaleriei. În afara călăreţilor iliri, paza cetăţii a fost asigurată până în anul 167 şi de militari din legendara Legio V Macedonica, care îşi avea cartierul general la Troesmis (Igliţa – Turcoaia). Arrubium era un oraş important al provinciei, dezvoltat economic şi cu o poziţie strategică. Interesant este că aici cetăţenii romani îl venerau pe Jupiter sub forma locală Arrubianus, fiind un lucru obişnuit ca unui zeu să i se ofere şi atribute specifice locului de venerare. Arrubium a fost pomenit în multe izvoare ale antichităţii, timp de mai bine de două secole fiind unul din oraşele mari ale Moesiei Inferior. #visitdobrogea #dobrogea #constanta - @visitdobrogea on Instagram

Before & After: The Ludendorff Bridge at Remagen was in early March 1945 one of two remaining bridges across the River Rhine in Germany when it was captured by United States Army forces. After 10 days it collapsed into the river but by then a sizable bridgehead had been established on the eastern bank of the Rhine. * The Battle of Remagen during the Allied invasion of Germany resulted in the unexpected capture of the Ludendorff Bridgeover the Rhine and likely shortened World War II in Europe. After capturing the Siegfried Line, the 9th Armored Division of the U.S. First Army had advanced unexpectedly quickly towards the Rhine. They were very surprised to see one of the last bridges across the Rhine still standing.The Germans had wired the bridge with about 2,800 kilograms (6,200 lb) of demolition charges. When they tried to blow it up, only a portion of the explosives detonated. U.S. forces captured the bridge and rapidly expanded their first bridgehead across the Rhine, two weeks before Field Marshal Bernard Montgomerys meticulously planned Operation Plunder. Esse tipo de construção existe há 3.000 anos, tendo sido adotada pelos Fenícios, que chegaram ao que é a África hoje em 1.200 A.C. e ilustra as formas de assentamento humano e uso da terra que representam a definição de habitar e sua interação com um ambiente natural.As casas trogloditas em Matmata forma uma paisagem lunar , colinas escavadas em seus cumes, essas depressões são pátios de habitações que testemunham uma modo de vida original e ilustram um uso rural e disperso do solo. A casa é formada por um poço escavado verticalmente que serve de pátio para o qual se abrem as várias grutas na rocha e servem de divisões para diferentes utilizações: quartos, cozinha, adegas, estábulo, etc. Em uma região sujeita a clima muito quente por muitos meses do ano, o desenvolvimento do o habitat na caverna permite que a luz penetre nas divisões subterrâneas, mantendo-as frescas no verão mais quente. O interior é conduzido por um corredor subterrâneo horizontal na encosta da montanha. Esta organização social também gerou construções vernaculares compostas por celeiros coletivos “ksour” que serviam para armazenar provisões e reservas de alimentos em quantidade suficiente para enfrentar longos períodos de seca. Os ksours também serviram como locais de encontro e de troca, evoluindo gradualmente para se tornar uma espécie de mercado. os ksour podem ser classificados em três tipos principais: o kasr da cidadela, o kasr da montanha e o kasr da planície. Eles foram construídos por populações semi-nômades Freqüentemente construído em um padrão circular, um ksar é composto de várias ghorfas (salas) em camadas, todas se abrindo para uma praça central. Cada ghorfa é compartimentada em vários espaços de forma a separar entre os produtos agrícolas e outros bens familiares. Do lado de fora, a parede, sem nenhuma abertura exceto a porta da frente. Madan Mahal fort is a pride of Jabalpur city, was built in the 11th century by 38th Gond ruler, Raja Madan Shah. The fort provides a panoramic view of the town. Bargi Dam is located on the Jabalpur – Nagpur highway about 40 km from Jabalpur city, Bargi Dam is built on Narmada river. famous for water sports in Bargi Dam. It is the first completed Dam in chain of 30 proposed dams across the river Narmada. Its reserved water is used for Hydropower generation and irrigation purpose. There is also a cruise in the reservoir water on a boat / cruise liner called as Narmada Queen. Other facilities like Speed Boating, Water Scooters, Paddle Boating have been provided for the tourists. Rani Durgavati Memorial and Museum in memory of the 16 century Queen Durgavati. KONARK SUN TEMPLE Konark is also known as Arkakshetra, Black Pagoda (due to black tower) or Kainapara. Ark (Sun) Kon (Corner) Kshetra (place). Its part of UNESCO World heritage from 1984 n now entrusted to ASI. Its a 13th century Sun temple built by Narasimha Deva I. Its 70kms from Bhubaneshwar n 35kms from Puri. On map it almost forms a triangle. The first pic shows the Audience Hall (128 ft) n not the Main Sanctum (229 ft). The sanctum is erased to ground by Invaders. The other small portions surviving are Dancing Hall (Natya Mandir) n Dining Hall (Bhoga Mantapa). There was 7 horse with 24 wheels chariot among which only one horse survives n few wheels. The famous Wheel depicting the mundane is world famous. It is believed that it took 12 years with 1200 artisans to complete this grandeur. Ironically ASI is doing chemical washing past 12 years! One who visits Puri n Bhubaneshwar will not miss Konark. આવતીકાલે ૧૫મી ઓગષ્ટ..આઝાદી ના ૭૪ વષઁમાં મંગલ પ્રવેશ.. આ દિવસે દેશને આઝાદી તો મળી હતી પણ કમનસીબે અખંડ ભારતના બે ટુકડા પણ થયેલ જેની યાતના હજી પણ આપણે ભોગવી રહ્યા છીએ ત્યારે હમણાં પાકિસ્તાને જુનાગઢ અને માણાવદર પર પોતાનો વાહિયાત દાવો કરવાની ગુસ્તાખી કરી છે એવા આપણા જુનાગઢ વિશે થોડી વાત ... આઝાદી પહેલા જુનાગઢ રાજ્ય એક રજવાડું હતું,જેનો શાસક મહાબતખાન ત્રીજો હતા.જૂનાગઢના દીવાન તરીકે શાહનવાઝ ભુટ્ટોએ જૂનાગઢના શાસકને જૂનાગઢને પાકિસ્તાન સાથે ભેળવવાની સલાહ આપી.જેથી નવાબ મહાબતખાને જુનાગઢને પાકિસ્તાન સાથે જોડાવા માટેના જોડાણખત પર સહી કરી દીધી હતી, પરંતુ સરદાર પટેલની દરમિયાનગીરીના લીધે જૂનાગઢમાં જનમત લેવામાં આવ્યો અને બહુમતીએ ભારત તરફ મતદાન કયુઁ અને જુનાગઢનો ૯ નવેમ્બર ૧૯૪૭ના રોજ ભારત સંઘમાં સમાવેશ થયેલો બાદમાં નવાબને પાકિસ્તાન ભાગી જવુ પડેલ. જુનાગઢ: જુનાગઢ એટલે જયાં હિમાલયથી પણ જુનો અને ગુજરાતનો સૌથી ઊંચો પવઁત ગૌરવવંતાે ગઢ ગિરનાર... જુનાગઢ એટલે જયાં દેશનુ સૌ પ્રથમ જ્યોતિઁલિંગ એવું સોમનાથ... જુનાગઢ એટલે જયાં ભગવાન કૃષ્ણએ પોતાનો દેહ ત્યાગ કયાઁ હતો તે ભાલકા તિથઁ.. જુનાગઢ એટલે જયાં એશિયાના એકમાત્ર સિંહો નો વસવાટ છે એવું સાસણ.. જુનાગઢ એટલે આખા વિશ્વમાં પ્રખ્યાત છે એવી કેસર કેરી માટે નું તલાલા .... જુનાગઢ એટલ ભવ્ય રજવાડા સાથે સંતો અને શુરાઓની ભુમી... જુનાગઢ એટલે ખમીરવંતા કવિઓ અને કલાકારોની ભુમી.. ગુજરાતનો આ એકમાત્ર એવો જીલ્લો જયાં,જંગલો,પવઁત,નદીઓ,દરિયો ,ઐતિહાસિક વિરાસતો,ફળદ્રુપ જમીન આવેલી છે. જુનાગઢનો અર્થ જૂનો ગઢ થાય છે. જૂનાગઢમાં વિલિંગટન બંધ, દામોદર કુંડ ઉપર કોટ, બૌદ્ધ ગુફાઓ,ઓજત બંધ, સંત અમર દેવી દાસ સમાધિ સહિત ઘણા બધા પૌરાણિક સ્થળ આવેલા છે. મૌર્ય વંશ, ગ્રીક, ક્ષત્રપ અને ગુપ્ત વંશોનો અહિ ઉજળો ઇતિહાસ છે. મગધના નંદવંશનો નાશ કરી, ગણરાજયોને ખતમ કરી, ભારતને એકચક્રી બનાવનાર ચંદ્રગુપ્ત મૌર્યે ઈ.સ. પૂર્વે ૩૨૨ પછી સૌરાષ્ટ્ર જીતી લીધું. મૌર્ય વંશના રાજાઓએ કોતરાવેલ શિલાલેખો દ્રારા ગિરનાર પર્વતને જગતમાં પ્રસિધ્ધિ અપાવેલ છે. મૌર્યકાળમાં ગિરનાર પર્વતને ઉજ્જયંત, રૈવત, રૈવતક અને જુનાગઢ શહેરને ગિરિનગર, જીર્ણદુર્ગ નાં નામથી ઓળખાતા હતાં. એક એવી કથા પણ અહીં પ્રચલિત છે કે જયારે સિદ્ધરાજ જયસિંહએ જૂનાગઢ પર ચડાઇ કરી અને ત્યાંના રાજા રા’ખેંગારને મારી નાંખીને તેમની રાણી રાણકદેવીને લઇ જતો હતો, ત્યારે સતી રાણકદેવીએ ગિરનારને કહ્યું કે, હે ગિરનાર તારો રાજા હણાયો છતાં તું હજી ઉભો છે? ?? આ વખતે ગિરનાર પડવા માંડ્યો અને રાણકદેવીએ તેને પડતો રોકવા કહ્યુ કે ‘પડમા પડમા મારા આધાર’. - @heritagewalkahmedabad on Instagram
