Recently a friend introduced me to the work of the filmmaker and documentarian Elija Hasan ( @elijah_hasan )who does a ton of great film work especially in Portland, so I learned from Elija’s Vimeo. Recommend you check it out now: https://vimeo.com/elijahhasan I am particularly interested in the clip from the film Darker Than Blue, which features interviews from ‘lice or former ‘lice officers who are black. The experiences they share are important to hear. Especially as we collectively push harder to eliminate yt suprmist presence in our area, especially in power positions like the ‘lice force, and around the country. In the clip, some of the people say they joined in order to change the force from with in. And it seems some did eventually take off the badge. Some say they stay because they know they are making a difference. And the image here is a message from protestors in Portland, Or, written on the wall of the in- justice center, taken with the Lubitel. I’m not going to lie, I thought I was going to pass out. For one, It was late July, during a heatwave in London and my flat did not have air conditioning. I was inverted for what felt like a reallllyyy long time in a wide-legged forward bend = prasarita padottanasana (one of my favorites for scoliosis and back pain) But mostly, because I was posing for an online life drawing class… with my back completely exposed. It’s nerve-racking enough as it was my first figure drawing class, but to showcase a part of my body that I tried to hide or disguise so no one can see my curve and uneven shoulders - was a whole nother level. It was scary, it was such an adrenaline rush, but I’m SO happy I did it. Why? Because it was actually such an empowering experience. To finally feel comfortable fully showcasing my back and what I used to think were imperfections. Thank YOU to the amazing @seorcha_art and @scoliosis_association_uk for hosting ‘CELEBRATING CURVES’, and to all the talented artists - I love seeing your interpretation of my scoliotic back. Honored to have been a part of this event to raise awareness of scoliosis and celebrate all of our unique curves, scars, and bodies, as well as, share some of my favorite poses I like doing to keep my spine happy. ___ #daywithviv - @daywithviv on Instagram

I’ve been wanting to work... softer, for a while now. While I love the dust + metal + patience that come along with jewelry making, its harshness hasn’t felt aligned with my inner world. The reality is that I am soft and pink and intuitive, and full of feelings and in-depth considerations... and I’m finding a lot more joy and satisfaction in a completely new medium lately. This kind of creation feels like a big, relieved sigh. I’m finally embracing long neglected facets of my being. 24. Fotoausstellung mit Werken von Kathleen Lehmann vom 22.06.2019 bis zum 15.08.2019. Beginn der Ausstellung ist am 22.06.2019 um 18 Uhr. „Was immer du tun kannst oder träumst es zu können, fang damit an.“ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Mein Name ist Kathleen. Vor 6 Jahren habe ich das Fotografieren für mich entdeckt. Für mich, der perfekte Ausgleich zu meinem Job als Altenpflegerin. Schnell hatte ich meine erste Spiegelreflexkamera erstanden. Und mit der Kamera kamen auch die Zweifel. ISO oder Blende? Welche Technik ist die Beste? Welche Einstellung wähle ich, um das perfekte Bild zu bekommen? Was ich auf jeden Fall bekommen habe, sind unzählige Wutausbrüche und Tränen, weil nichts so lief wie ich es mir erhoffte. Zwischenzeitlich stand ich mit meiner Leidenschaft derartig auf dem Kriegsfuß, dass ich kurz davor war alles hinzuschmeißen. „Man liebt das, wofür man sich müht, und man müht sich für das, was man liebt.“ … Und so kamen mit der Zeit dann doch die ersten brauchbaren Bilder zustande. Ich entwickelte eine irre Freude daran, auszureizen was alles möglich ist. Es geht darum die winzigen Augenblicke sichtbar zu machen, die man sonst nie wahrgenommen hätte. Ich liebe die schönen Momente, die einzigartigen Augenblicke die, die Natur für uns bereithält. Gern treibe ich mich an verlassenen Orten herum, um das vergangene Leben was dort stattfand wiederzuerwecken und festzuhalten. Ich stelle hier Bilder von Cottbus & Umgebung, Lost Places und Makrofotografie aus. Ich wünsche allen Besuchern viel Freude und eine gute Zeit beim Anschauen der Bilder. Students dont care how much you know, until they know how much you care. How fitting today to recognize the teachers ❤ While Ive had quite a number of great, influential teachers in my life... (oh, I could name so many!!) I especially want to recognize @kim311. Its World Appreciation Day, after all! Since our kiddos started attending Lyndale its been easy to trust that the staff really cares about each student. It really hit home though the moment we had our first video call, at the start of the lock-down. I honestly thought my son was going to zone out... I didnt think a pixelated chat would keep his attention. But my boy LIT UP. He was thrilled - it seemed like a weight lifted off him just from hearing her voice. In that moment, I couldnt help but appreciate the heart that she has clearly given as she leads the school. Lets celebrate Gemini season with some affogato. Recipe for the no churn ice cream below: 🍨 You will need: • 2x cans of full-fat coconut cream (chilled in the fridge overnight) • 350g pitted dates (soaked in warm water for 10mins) • 120g @Alpro Coconut For Professionals drink • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract • 50g of chilled espresso or moka pot coffee Put the dates through a food processor until it forms a thick paste. Keep adding some water used for soaking to preserve the sweetness. Scoop out the coconut cream from the cans without tipping them and place it in a chilled bowl. Using a mixer or a whisk whip it until smooth. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until everything is incorporated. Taste and adjust the flavours if needed. I stopped counting after 100 days of lockdown in a city I love so dearly. Those who stick around in New York are in it for better or for worse. So when the pandemic hit, I didnt know what it would take away or add to how I view the city and its people. Days seemed hazy and dystopian. Overnight, a city that sounds like a conglomeration of every sound you can imagine became scary and ghostly. Laughter from playgrounds and music from the neighborhood bar was taken over by mind numbing, anxiety-inducing incessant rings of sirens from ambulances, police cars, and fire trucks. I used this time to take stock of the things Im grateful for. I watched my neighbors not let confinement define their spirits. I heard it in the 7pm cheers that celebrated the gift of life, rainbow sketches on windows by children who cant fully fathom the nebulous world outside but wanted to spread hope. I saw people waving from windows, dogs play fetch on roofs, pigeons confused by the lack of scraps, Ubers with makeshift protective barriers inside cars, and more people take to biking than ever before. I dont know what a new normal is yet, as I believe were shaping it as we go, but there are things I miss from a pre-pandemic world that are quintessentially New York. I drew them over the lockdown to remind myself of the crowded, big-hearted, beautiful, and chaotic city that I fall more in love with every day. And while New York is slowly reopening and evolving in the resilient way it always does, take a moment to remember what makes the city unique for you. Even while Balarama tackled the other guards who came up against them, Krishna sprang up like an eagle and climbed to the top where Kamsa was seated.
