Yesterday was my first day as a home heath and hospice nurse and I truly think I’m going to love it! My schedule is 9-5:30 M-F with on-call hours if my patients aren’t doing well or pass away. I’ll be acting as an RN and a case manager and coordinating care, meds, DME, and other medical supply delivery with MDs, NPs, RNs, HAs, LVNs, chaplains, social workers and more! I’ll also be spending time getting to know my patients and their families while doing my assessments and making sure they have everything they need and all of their questions are answered. I feel so blessed to be able to work with patients and their families during difficult times and to support them through the grieving process. Being a patient advocate has always been a passion of mine and I love that it will be a large part of this job! This morning in North Vancouver a black bear found itself trapped inside a vehicle. The bear (not pictured) was able to access the vehicle easily and gained a high calorie food reward once inside. Thankfully, the homeowners freed the bear, who then escaped to a nearby green space. Bears that cause property damage, eat unnatural foods or enter a confined space often pay with their lives. Bears are intelligent animals and they have great memories, especially when it concerns food rewards and where to find them. Captains Log: August 11, 2020 This #trainingtuesday we started working on #CatSchoolMatch . Or at least I did, while Cadet Perry works on mastering the basics. Training session presented in reverse order, we ended with practicing pawing at an object on cue. After a quick sniff, some paw boops were successful. Cadet Perry had wandered off by this point in the 10 minute session, but new objects were too interesting to resist (and I couldnt resist trying to steal Cadet Perrys treat). This will be better practiced in a quiet space and earlier in the session, but it was a promising start. Resident Human noted that it is surprisingly difficult to find two identical objects in the apartment. . The middle of our session (swipe ➡➡) was the most successful. The goal today was to practice being on a mat, chasing a treat, and returning to the mat. With two sets of treats flying in two directions, overall, mission accomplished. A few successess, a few misses, but still better than the days before. . The start of the session (swipe ➡) is always the most difficult. The anticipation of treats sometimes makes it difficult to focus. I understand that treats will be given better than Cadet Perry, and can guess what Ill be asked.
