We’re on our holidays! We visited The Griffin today for lunch. What a wonderful setting on the sea front. We sat on the roof terrace which gave us an uninterrupted view of the beach and Carlos and Olive loved looking out. The food was delicious and we were very impressed with the service considering Covid restrictions. Furry friends 🐕: Welcome! A bowl of water on arrival. Prices 💴: Reasonable Food & Drink 🍽: Specialist fish menu as well as a host of other delicious pub meals. The meat is sourced locally and fresh fish is supplied by local fishermen and trawlers. Back on board! After two months of being away from the water, it felt so good to paddle Lake O with my hubby on this summer-like day. But so much thought and planning went into my first spring excursion; I made sure to adhere to current regulations, picked a day and a spot I knew would be relatively quiet, and made sure the conditions were super safe (flat, no winds, close to shore, an area I knew well). I probably won’t mention anything about the failures of humanity in this caption, but just know I’m posting about them on my story whenever I find something relevant. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I never really speak in depth about my emotions on here, as in the past it has made me appear vulnerable so people treat me differently. Before you worry, I’m fine, you don’t need to check up on me because I’m ok. I think the last few weeks, I’ve been feeling shit. There’s many factors: feeling worthless, coronavirus, lack of freedom, pending normality, humanity’s disasters, it all just gets me down. Reading about the treatment of Black people and what is happening in Yemen makes me angry. I want to help, but apart from educating, donating and learning, I cannot fix all of the world’s problems. But I wish I could. I wish I could make life easier for everybody, no matter what their hardships may be. My feeling of self-love comes and goes, one day I’ll be preaching about loving yourself, then another I’ll feel totally under-appreciated and worthless. It comes in waves. But as I like to say, we must ride the waves. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - In life there will be good and bad. The good being I’ve started up my own mini business by myself, learning a hobby with no experience, and finding a new passion, having so many loving people around me, being healthy, eating good food, and the bad being my lack of freedom and normality. I WISH I could go out and see people, I wish the whole virus could go away and everything could be the way it was, but things will never be the way they were again. A huge thank you to our supporter Lorna Stanger, from Caithness, for raising an incredible £5,142 to help people living with cancer find their best way through. Lorna endured a jaw-dropping duathlon, running and cycling 755-miles over five days - starting from her home, running from Thurso to Inverness and cycling the famous North Coast 500. Wow! 😮 The original plan of running back to Thurso after cycling the North Coast 500 had to be changed, due to a knee injury. Determined to finish the challenge as planned, Lorna ran from Inverness to Thurso covering 112 miles in one day, only two weeks after completing the duathlon 🚲 🏃♀️ Covering the 755 miles of remote landscape, Lorna certainly wasnt alone. She was cheered on by friends, family and car horns tooting in support. Lorna is pictured here in our Macmillan greens: Wearing my Macmillan t-shirt made a huge difference. Stripped away from all of my typical summer activities as travels, playing music, teaching and reuniting with friends and alumni around the world, family getaways, countless dinners with people we love (etc.), this summer felt like the movie “Groundhog Day”, where the main character was forced to relive the same day over and over, in order to better himself and creating different outcomes through self reflection and consequent self improvement. I started realizing that this global pandemic may have presented us with a similar opportunity to grow and it has personally forced me to make sense of my existence and choices by depriving me to what I thought made sense and gave purpose, pleasure and comfort in my own life. It was and still is gruesome at times, but it has also allowed me to truly empathize with the less fortunate people who actually lost all of their livelihood or even worse, people that lost their loved ones as a result of the virus and/or of the absurd racial murders we can’t afford to be silent about anymore. I’m not sure at all if today I am a better man, but what I now know is that every day since this pandemic hit, I have been presented with the opportunity to look at what I want and what I need, and truly understand the difference; thankfully, most days I am able to feel deeply grateful in my heart for being blessed with all I need even when I often desperately miss all I want. The smiles you see in these pictures are the consequence of that sentiment, when last week we had the unexpected opportunity to go for the weekend to Block Island for the first and last time during this surreal 2020 summer. I woke up at the beautiful hobbit house in Penzance, cycled to the magical Lands End which always feels special, rode past so many happy people enjoying the sun & beaches that are stunning, through some gorgeous countryside, no dangerous driving at all today & now Im with Rachelle, Duncan, family & friends in Wadebridge having a barbecue & a beer. I truly cant believe how bad my day is going!!😁 92 miles, 7,700 feet of elevation is a tough ride but Ive really enjoyed every second of it, every hill, even getting lost for a few miles going around in circles didnt get me down or disheartened. I have made sacrifices to do this ride but many would love to do it once & Im now doing it for a 2nd time. I am very privileged to do this, but we all are very privileged to live in this country & I think sometimes we need reminding of that. Fundraising wise we are now on over £4400 (£8800 when doubled) which will help people that arent as privileged or do struggle with mental or physical health challenges to enjoy our world more & for longer. Today I Rode 105 miles from Baldwin to the Montauk Lighthouse. This was one of the most brutal ride I had thus far. Starting out with flat tire and multiple obstacles but we overcame all. Saint’s Way Padstow to Lostwithiel 50,048 steps 165 floors • As a treat, to finish September, I’m walking the Saint’s Way. It crosses the centre of Cornwall, from Padstow to Fowey, and traces centuries of Celtic history. It is muddier, more rural, and much quieter than any of the coastal walks, but fascinating as a two-day exploration of the tors, the churches, and the monoliths that have shaped this county. If you’re planning to walk it, I highly recommend the downloadable offline map in Guru Maps via British Pilgrimage Trust. Some signs have been vandalized and some are quite confusing so the app helped keep me on track. • Eats and Treats: Packed lunch all the way today. • Books: The Freedom of Simplicity by Richard Foster • People: I only encountered one other couple walking this trail, visitors from Hampshire. Several of the houses had large signs reminding us that they were not open to visitors and I had my first adventure being chased by two dogs. • Wild Swimming: None. Für Januar 2021 habe ich mich für den México Incentive Trip qualifiziert und im März 2021 haben wir die Möglichkeit, von Jan seinem neuen online Geschäft, nach Dubai zu reisen. Ich glaube, wenn mir das jemand vor 3 Jahren erzählt hätte, würde ich ihn auslachen. Nur es ist so wie mit Allem, wenn man an etwas ganz fest glaubt, daran fest hält, aus Tiefpunkten lernt, anstatt aufzugeben, dann wird man auch mit jedem Mal stärker und besser. Did you make it to the beach this weekend? Last month we took a walk with @queenscapes and @nych2o to our favorite beach along Flushing Creek. The group of 40+ traversed down Willets Point Blvd and under the Van Wyck Expressway to get to an eroded wetland restoration project on the south west side of the Northern Blvd Bridge. . Attendees discussed water quality, local history, and plans for new development in Willets Point and downtown Flushing— with the help of @queenscapes we also kicked off the #CreekScapes19 photo contest. . We’re searching for the best photos of Flushing Creek that fit into one of the following set of guidelines— 1.) Most iconic: what images pop into your mind when you think of Flushing Creek, how can you best capture the vibe in a still frame? 2.) Most revealing landscape: how can you capture the often untold story of the ecological and political environment surrounding Flushing Creek? 3.)
