Happy Sunday Funday!! We got up early this morning and went to the local dog park before it got busy. We haven’t been since before the pandemic and mostly because I’ve been avoiding crowds but I know that Denver has been desperate to see some dogs! He was SO excited but was also ridiculously well behaved, which TBH I didn’t expect because it had been so long since he’s had free run around other dogs. He ran to go meet friends but the second I whistled he came barreling back! Like so quick at one point he ran into me because he couldn’t stop fast enough 😂 This park has an off leash wooded trail so that’s where we went and it’s wide so I was able to keep distanced from everyone else but Denver was able to socialize. At one point he was running around with an 11 month lab and the guy also had another dog who was slowly moving next to him and he was like oh he’s 9 he’s slowed down and I was like yeah my guy is almost 10 (as he’s ripping around with the puppy!). We then hit up Starbucks because he deserved a treat and coffee for me and then went and visited the nephew! It was a very productive day and now I need rest because my back is telling me to slow down and I’m tired (probably because I haven’t really been able to do much for two weeks). Day 9: The day started off really slow. The first day of backpacking really took it out of us. . The hike was going great till we got to this big burn section. It was 95 degrees or hotter at that point and I kept stopping because my feet were bothering me so bad from my blisters and I just wanted to give up. We ended up getting behind a couple miles from our friends we went with. My husband encouraged me to keep pushing and said how much he believed in me and knew I could do it. Him having that talk really helped me to keep going. I was doing great! But then things turned for the worst in a matter of minutes. . As we were walking trying to catch up with the guys, I felt sometime wet on my hiking pants. Im like is water leaking in my pack? I was so confused! It wasnt water. It was my MARIONBERRY cider ! It exploded at the bottom of one of my bear bags and was leaking. I start to panic because we are in bear country and I thought if a bear smelled this I was screwed ! I just threw my pack off and started stripping off my clothes and going through my pack and getting everything out that smelled like the cider ! . Oh wait ! The story gets worse 😳. As Im trying to move quickly and handle that issue. Another one starts happening. Our dogs start showing signs of heat exhaustion. Cora starts to try digging a whole and whining and Bailey is trying to hide behind Sheldons pack. So as Im dealing with the cider issues we also had to rush and find a water source for the dogs before it got worse ! We had previously told the guys we were with we were low on water and needed to find a water source. We ended up finding this Creek not too far from where we were standing and got the dogs water asap and I was throwing my stuff in the creek to get the cider smell off. It was a hot mess let me tell you. . . We ended up sitting with the dogs for a couple hours so they could rest for a bit and in hopes the buddies we were with would turn back and look for us since they got ahead of us and maybe wonder if we are ok. They didnt turn back.. we had to make the decision to turn around and do a different route. Stay tuned for day 3.. it gets better 😬. - @wandering__paws on Instagram
