When I started my business fifteen years ago, I was the Creative Director at Jordan Winery. When I began to choose fabric for the guest suites at Jordan, childhood memories from Peru came rushing in. I was inspired by all the tales I remembered from my girlhood of the Incas and alpacas and a fleece that was called The Gold of the Andes. I was so excited. I could not sleep for days. I was going to make luxurious alpaca textiles for the suites of the winery. At that time, alpaca textiles were available primarily for fashion and not interior design. I traveled to Peru to source fiber and found a mill to manufacture the very best, pure alpaca. For the redo of the winery suites, I decided on a palette of 5 colors, colors present at harvest time in the California wine country. Its to these beginnings that I will return to for the launch of our latest collection - coming this winter. Its called The Harvest Collection and offers a curated selection of some of my very favorite textiles over the years - reaching back to those early, promising days. A month ago I never thought I would be sitting here sharing this story. As a Milliner who has now turned my full attention to the bridal industry, and with everything going on in the world, I wondered if I would get much opportunity to use my hat-making skills anymore. Don’t get me wrong - I absolutely adore making hair adornments (!) but I have a soft space in my 🤍 for a beautiful, handmade hat. I couldn’t believe it when I received an email from one of my favourite wedding photographers @megankellyweddings engaging me for her upcoming wedding. It was like a dream! However, as is happening with many Brides around the world, Megan’s plans were cancelled at the last minute, but she decided to elope on the date anyway, and to save the celebration for when the time is right. That meant a last minute outfit and hat change! But we made it work! Such is the magic of this sacred union between two lovers, the universe responds and things come together as they are meant to. They have a name! We’re calling them our Highland Blankets. All handwoven in the highlands of Guatemala using local sheep wool. Learn how to weave intuitively and collage with yarn & fiber, while trying your hand at the basic skills of tapestry weaving on a frame loom.
