Что браконьерская добыча идёт варварски способом... Я рада что люди отстояли шихан Куштау в Башкирии - а ведь это тоже история про древние кораллы🙏 . Когда-то человеческое потребление было несравнимо ниже. Кораллы были драгоценным камнем,а точнее растением в украшениях знати. Древний Рим, шумеры, кельты - боготворили кораллы! В раскопках Вавилона найдены украшения и предметы быта с кораллами. . История говорит, что у Бориса Годунова особая шуба была украшена 16-ю корольками. Корольками на Руси называли обработанный красный коралл❤️ Историю надо помнить, но нельзя забывать о настоящем веке. . ‼️👉Как бы вас не заманивали украшениями из типа «настоящих» кораллов, сейчас в бижутерной отрасли во всем мире используют два экологичных метода: белый выращенный коралл, который покрывают эмалями (и вот тут важно КАКИМИ эмалями‼️) и кораллы из кальцитовой смеси Пьера Жильсона, которые очень хорошо имитируют кораллы. . В бижутерии Кеннета Лейна используются оба разрешённых метода. Никаких браконьерских действий! Белый коралл легко опознать по сетчатой и лучистой структуре с коралловыми «пеньками». Humans of Peachland - Chapter 4 Karen Beaupre - Owner, Southern Ridge Trading Company Growing up, I was the girl in school who got in trouble for drawing all over her papers. At home, I was the girl who got in trouble for annihilating the phone book. I would open up the Yellow Pages, take a sharpie and just doodle. I always knew when my parents were trying to find a phone number, because I would hear a loud …KAREN being yelled from the other side of the house. Credit goes to my parents, though. They saw my creative side very early on, and realized they had to find an outlet for me, or else they would never be able to find the local plumbers number in the phone book. They put me in art classes. They put me in music lessons. Whatever they could find. Im so thankful that they were supportive of that side of me, because it allowed me to embrace my creativity all the way through school, and into my adult life. I moved out to Alberta after graduation. I was young, adventurous and just wanted to spread my wings a little bit. My sister lived in Alberta, and she found me a waitressing job. The plan was just to work out there for the summer, but I ended up falling in love. Then I got my ECE, had a baby and things just kind of snowballed from there. Among all that, Ive even found the time to run several businesses along the way. I even owned a western store in Princeton. I really liked western fashion, but I couldnt quite find the style that I was looking for, so I basically turned my own designs into wearable art. But I was farming out my designs to other companies. I was very particular on the colour, size and design of the garment, so when I would get it back, I was never happy with it. This store was born out of the same desire - to control my own destiny and do things my way. I absolutely need to be creative. I paint, but I have never shown or sold any of my paintings. Only recently have I decided that life is too short - its time to start showing my art to the world. Birthday Hoops Oh, hey, hi... I guess I kinda went silent there for a minute. 😂 I’ve been busy burning the candle at both ends for literally all of 2020 (and beyond) and I think it finally caught up to me. I worked finishing the last batch of customs until 3am the night before I was planning on taking a week off from the bench (not from my phone tho), and THEN had to hurricane prep, and THEN pack the truck and drive to ATX on 3hrs of sleep, and well, I thought I was taking time off from the bench and turns out, I’m burnt out as hell and needed a break from emails and messaging and posting too. With house fires and pandemics and multiple fundraisers a month while doing mutual aid and protesting in person and being the person in charge of keeping my house afloat and running a solo operated full time business and still trying to be present for my animals, friends, family, and self, well, MAMA TIRED. Honestly this last week of doing the most to celebrate one of my oldest and dearest friends was probably not long enough of a reset, but here we are, I’m back. All of my bedroom and studio are still elevated for potential flooding, and I think I’ll leave it that way through tropical storm Beta’s passing, so I’ll be spending the next couple days catching up on emails and getting ready to announce the LAST CUSTOMS LIST of 2020. I’ll be opening it up mid to end of week so don’t sleep because spots fill up insanely fast, and I will not be doing as many pieces as last time in hopes to keep the work load manageable and still be able to release a collection of pieces I choose to create before the holidays/this insane year comes to a close. Wild were already to that time 🤯 so enough of the life/business update, and onto the JEWELS! I’ll finally be showing off the last round of customs and they are SPECIAL! Starting with these hoops I made the best friend a girl could ever dream of, @disaster.horse / @thicklizzzy ! Individually handmade fine silver scorpions frame two pieces of vibrant blue Kingman Turquoise (I picked out directly from the mine in AZ) in 14k gold bezels, with her namesake “Thick” “Lizzy” stamped on the reverse, hoops of sterling silver. I’ll have a few brightening up my upcoming collection for sure. Such an uplifting little sunburst!⠀ ⠀ As I slow down and begin to create in a more sustainable way for my mental health, I’m also revisiting the ways in which I can be more sustainable in my business practices. Where can I make less waste or bring in more recycled elements? I used to make all of my own clasps, and somewhere along the production line for markets I reverted to premade for convenience. I’m trying hard not to beat myself up for letting a couple of things slide, but being committed to continual improvement is helping. I have a little list of things I’ll be working towards making more sustainable. There’s always room for growth ☺️⠀ ⠀ All my pendants in upcoming collections will henceforth include a hand crafted clasp (in 100% recycled sterling silver) with design elements drawn from the pendant. Hey good people! How are you? We are still living in a time of great change and uncertainty. Everyday I check the news to make sure the world hasnt blown up and move accordingly. You all have kept me busy in the last two months and I am happy and thankful to still be able to create beautiful things for you. It warms my heart to see so many getting gifts to lift others spirits and in that vein I will be donating a portion of my sales going forward to organizations putting in that work! This rustic cuff was a commission and made from 3/4 thick copper that had once been a door handle. Piercing through metal that thick is challenging but luckily my cuts were few and straightforward ( no tricky curvature or fancy designs) I then etched and drilled the metal. Forming was another issue and I am grateful for Michael at Iron Works in Clarksburg. I could not of heated the metal with my torch to get it to a point where it was soft enough for me to work with. What do you wear on your feet when working at home and Zooming? 👉 these 💯 kicks 👡 During the Ottoman Empire (1299-1922), hammams (public baths) were noisy, vibrant spaces full of metal buckets clanking, steam hissing, water splashing, voices raised in talk and laughter, and the “click-clack” of the distinctive heeled wooden shoes - known as qabqab or nalin - worn only inside the hammam. Patrons from all religious faiths flaunted their social status by using and displaying silk-embroidered linen towels, inlaid metal buckets, and delicate glass flagons full of perfumed oils. Only women, however, teetered on the hot, slippery floors in extraordinarily inappropriate (but admittedly lovely) footwear, usually inlaid with mother of pearl and decorated with intricately worked leather. The more practical shoes had lower heels, but the more elaborate clogs (like this sky-high one) were commissioned and worn by true fashionistas.
