Not seen this brand before.... after my first sip of broth I thought it was TOO fishy, but then the chilli kicks in & the flavours started to harmonise. However the more I slurped, I noticed the lime citrus flavour became dominant & just a little too tangy for me! It would be different if I was eating a plate of zesty shrimps but in my noodle broth it was a little much for my palate. There’s no doubt the flavours are POWERFUL with this one. I enjoyed them & I love these Noods but I feel that level of zest would work better in a creamy Tom Yum, so based on that I won’t be getting these again. woke up this morning and went straight for the camera — unkempt hair, sleep still in eyes but here i am documenting. at the end of last year, i contacted a local photographer here in brooklyn. somewhere along this journey of mine i forgot what it meant to feel comfortable in front of the camera. always critiquing the thickness in my waist and legs. the slight laziness in my left eye. i wanted them to photograph me for twelve months — capturing the complicated relationship my body and i have. we go back and forth between numbers and sizes; honestly don’t eat enough food (maybe one meal a day) and the only time all my insecurities show is when im bare skin — naked. doesn’t matter how many times someone says they appreciate my body if i don’t. if i can’t, in full hd, see whatever it is they see when looking at me. stopped buying myself lingerie. it takes an act of god to get me into a swimsuit (and i probably still won’t wear one). and anything else that requires “too much skin“ you can count me out. but you know what we don’t give enough attention to — the many things that causes body dysmorphia in the first place. there isn’t enough respect paid or space held for the many ways all of womxn’s bodies react to change, stress, pregnancy, hormones, birth control and etc. no story is the same. we just assume that everything is one size fits all and that what worked for her is supposed to also work for me or the next. for awhile i’ve been thinking about removing my birth control. though it hasn’t caused me any immediate pain or life-threatening harm, i noticed early on the changes in my emotions and the way it affected my body and my appetite. thus, trickling down to my self-esteem, self-value and self-worth. we’ve been together for almost ten years and i always thought it was “worth“ it, ya know. always thought i could handle it. but now im not so sure anymore. it’s ashame that we as womxn are even plagued with these realities. that our choices boil down to pregnancy or whatever side effects we will inevitably suffer through with the taking of pills or implanted iuds. Compartment syndrome is a medical emergency and it needs to be recognized early. A similar situation may occur when an IO cannula is deployed in the wrong position or dislodged during the treatment. That is why you would want to make sure your IO device is in place. There are several ways to verify IO placement: 1. Check for aspiration of bone marrow 2. Flush and watch for swelling 3. Are the medications injected via the IO taking effect on the patient? 4. If available, bedside doppler may be effective in correct position confirmation. Early signs of compartment syndrome - Severe pain, swelling and redness of the affected limb Compartment syndrome is a rare complication associated with IO access. It may occur when the cannula is dislodged from the bone or over penetrated it. Therefore, correct location must be verified by aspiration of bone marrow, saline flush and observation of extravasation signs. In the image above is the result of a fasciotomy performed on a patient who had arrived to a field hospital with compartment syndrome, after being trapped under wreckage of an earthquake and rescued. Valentino Couture blouse added to my archive, this piece walked the runway in the Fall / Winter 1984 show. This piece is absolutely extraordinary in its construction, 16 buttons, 3 zippers and hook and eye closure all required to get into this couture piece (not to mention it’s almost completely bias cut). It’s funny how quickly things can change. How one minute your so worried about something that seems important at the time. Or your just amazed by the sunset and excited to see your boyfriend at work. And that’s part of life, living, and enjoying and not dwelling on the unknown future. We really don’t know what’s in store or what’s around the next turn (quite literally in this case). As athletes, as humans we make mistakes and accidents happen. I just wanted to share this experience just really to let out some of my emotions but also to show something real on here. Life isn’t always rainbows and butterflies, so often what Instagram portrays. Last night, I rode down LCC for the first time on my road bike and it was dark out after visiting Dillon at work and my first big ride along my ankle rehab journey. I was psyched, no one on the road, going fast! Even feeling controlled. Until I wasn’t. I took the turn too fast (May have gotten a flat?) hit a bump, bike started to shake- I couldn’t control it and quickly realized I was going down. I was probably going around 40... hard to tell how far I slid. I made it out okay and I am feeling more grateful than I have in a while. I broke my helmet- it may have saved my life. Yeah I’m beat up, everything hurts. I have road rash, and a lot of bruising but was able to walk out of it. (I may need a new windbreaker tho 😆@blackdiamond ) I guess the take away here is that life is unexpected and we make mistakes and that’s okay. Just cherish your days and learn from your errors. ✂️commission✂️ Theme: Yennifer from The Witcher in her rope dress Style: The Ren This one was kind of a doozy. How do you translate a complete beaded rope dress into one small scarf piece? I started by looking for a fabric that had similar color and lines and that landed me on a crushed velvet that was black but the lines show up as silver. I ordered a thick braided cording but despite the different ways I laid it out it wasnt working. So I unbraided the one piece which provided a piece that was just a two strand twist. After much pinning and seeing how I could manipulate that, I didnt like anything so I landed on just putting it on the long parts of the scarf. Each side is made up of one piece that just snakes its way down. Nothing is even and its not perfect because I personally think Yennifer isnt...it speaks to the chaos that is her life that we saw in the show. I was once at a party, naked and free bleeding. A man politely said to me, “hey, I think you’ve got blood on your leg”. I looked him dead in the eye, reached between my legs, grabbed the blood, and marked it across my face like war paint. Then I started laughing. Without words, two other women reached between my legs and put my blood on their faces. It felt very primal and raw, and for a moment I became an animal, my ego took the back seat, and I felt primordial energy surging thru my body. I felt present, light yet intense, and connected to everything. Menstruation is such an interesting experience, I often felt connected to a deep part of myself when I am bleeding. During this time I often go more inward, connect to Gaia wisdom, literally and metaphorically shed something, and remember that I am an untamed feline, fierce and powerful, carrying creative life force and connected to death. September is #nicuawarenessmonth so I wanted to share about the lead up to the 3 and 4 weeks Sam and Zelda spent in the NICU. We were shocked to find out that we were having twins, but the idea of holding two babies in my arms at birth was something I dreamed of doing. Every twin pregnancy is high risk (especially with my history of needing bedrest) so we knew we had to be prepared for a likely NICU stay. At 31 weeks pregnant, I found out that I had gestational diabetes AND that Baby B (Zelda) was IUGR. So after a myriad of appointments and an eventual failed BPP scan and stress test at 32 weeks, I was sent to the hospital for a possible c-section. Things stabilized overnight, but I contracted the flu! So I spent 8 days in the hospital hoping and praying to keep these babies inside while living in isolation. Thankfully, my mom had flown in the week before so she was there to help Michael with the girls at home (who were only 21 months and 3.25 years old at the time). After my discharge, I was home for 5 days before returning back to the hospital for the real delivery. That morning both Baby A (Sam) and Baby B (Zelda) failed their BPP scans so straight to the hospital I went. Here I am meeting Sam (5lbs - top photo) and Zelda (3.5 lbs - bottom photo) for the first time, about 3.5 hours after they were born. Of course I never got the experience of holding the babies together in my arms after birth since they were immediately whisked away to be put on oxygen. I would have to wait a few weeks before getting to feel the joy of holding two newborns at once! Our time in the NICU feels like a distant memory now that it has been 2.5 years; however, I’ll never forget what it felt like to have my heart split in half with two toddlers at home and two preemies in the hospital (and then it was even harder once Sam was discharged 5 days before Zelda). When most people think of cupping, they think of the circular mark featured in our recent post (or the sweet heart-shaped marks from cups by our friends at @lovecupping!). . But check out the image included here. While not as commonly photographed or shared in the media, these rash-looking marks arent anything out of the ordinary. Rash-looking marks often result from moving cups across a targeted region of the body. Marks of varying shapes and sizes can happen wherever cups are used when theres interstitial debris being released. . This particular client suffered from lots of back tension, particularly on her right side, and preferred the feeling of moving cups rather than stationary placement for 1-3 minute intervals. And even though the marks arent what were used to seeing, the treatment is so beneficial! . Since we arent back in the classroom regularly, we hope photos like these help keep practitioners informed and clients safe. Can I have an unmedicated birth at the hospital? Yes! I had an unmedicated birth at my local hospital, and you can too. How can it be done: - Know your why. Ask yourself what is motivating you to go this route. This is what will keep you going. - Educate yourself. Knowledge is truly power in this situation. Knowing what to expect and how to cope will be a big part of this journey. - Talk to your health care provider and make it clear that your wants align with their practice. - Hire a doula, if possible. A doula will not only provide you with emotional and physical support, but with tons of information. - Exercise. Use your birth ball, walk a ton, and just move your body. Often, birth is compared to a marathon, and you wouldn’t show to a marathon without any training, right? - Make a birth plan with your care team (Ob, midwife, doula, partner). - Practice breathing exercises that will help you during all stages of labor. - Spend early labor at home, if possible. Laboring at home is much more relaxing and it lessens the chance of unnecessary interventions. - Move your body during labor. Ask for intermittent monitoring once at the hospital. Movement was key for me to cope with contractions and help baby move into the birth canal. - Use water to your advantage. Ask to use the bath or shower to allow hot water to run down your body. This helps you and your body relax. I love patterns! The colours on this one reminds me of the soon approaching fall leaves and flowers. The bra that our beautiful model is wearing is made from upcycled silk scarves. One year ago today I witnessed my first birth as a Doula and it changed me forever. I will always be forever grateful to Lauren and Nate for inviting me into this space, and for trusting me to care for them. Lauren fought so hard to have the intervention free birth she dreamed of, and ignored external pressures during her labour and truly went within and found a strength that is impossible to match outside the birth space. It was beyond amazing to witness. I learnt so much from this birth and this family, and whilst every one of the babies I witness enter this world hold a very special place in my heart, this first one brings up such strong emotions for me. I remember sobbing as I witnessed this birth and for weeks after as I recounted it to people. It felt so surreal that this was a thing I was going to be able to do and a feeling I was going to be able to experience time and time again.
