I reached my hand around my seat to grab Hudson’s who was sitting behind me in the car. Where his hand used to be so tiny in mine, it now fills up my palm. Just another reminder of how precious these minutes and seconds are. Am I exhausted by trying to work and do home school while taking care of a three year old while cooking three meals, making 47 snacks, washing clothes, cleaning floors, dishes, tubs, butts? Yes. Am I also so deeply grateful for this time with the ones I love most? More than anything in the world. For years, I would beg God to slow down time so that I can etch each giggle, kiss, discovery and hurt into my bones. I yearned to feel the actual heartbeat of life, which is much slower than the hustle and bustle that us humans have created. The time is now. The time was always in the now. I was just a human on the fast train doing what I thought I was supposed to do. Now, I know. One day, our lives will not look like this. We will not be threatened daily by this virus. We will not have to socially distance, wear masks everywhere. We will get through this. Because if I know one thing about humanity it is that we are resilient. And when it does become safe again, I pray that we hold on to the bonfires on a summer evening, cross country drives where we pack ourselves into one vehicle without an inch to spare, and Friday movie nights. May we remember to meet nature and life at its true pace so that we are able to breathe in the preciousness of our time here. - @nikdeloach on Instagram

Gracie has special needs and works hard during therapy at preschool every day. ⁣ ⁣ Gracie’s sleep has been a struggle for a long time. She needs her parents near her when she falls asleep, and she wakes up frequently in the middle of the night. It is not uncommon for Gracie to be awake and crying for hours in the middle of the night. ⁣ ⁣ Gracie’s parents have worked hard with her to phase out their support at night time, however the frequent night wake ups aren’t changing. Under the direction of their pediatrician and neurologist, Gracie had been advised to take melatonin as well as several prescription medications to help with sleep. I remember that night... I was desperately trying to find my way out of my irresponsibility. As most young boys, I had ignored a homework project that was due the the next morning. My parents were out working and I didn’t know where to turn. It was a horrible feeling, and I had no idea how I was going to get this done. Even worst was the thought of failing and then having to face my parents! You were busy with your own work. Having to do your own High School homework assignments, and all the chores mom had left you do to in the house... and if that wasn’t enough, the responsibility of taking care of your sister and two brothers. You saw me struggling and frustrated. You didn’t think twice... you grab me and some pencils, markers and poster board and started asking me questions... We came up with the idea... and worked all night... it was passed midnight and you saw how tired I was getting. There was still some finishing touches, but you assured me it would get done and sent me to bed. The next morning I woke and went proudly to school! Although I was very young I knew from that moment on that you would always be there for me!!! You have!!! Many, many times over... you have been there for me and our family! I am so proud to have you as my eldest sister!! Today I just want to say Happy Birthday Dolly Roldan!!!! I’ve been putting off writing this post for sometime.. Trying to organize my thoughts and feelings, especially after this monumental year has been very difficult, especially with the passing of my father and the reality that my family structure is about to change. My husband, my boy and I are moving to New Zealand in a month, a decision that was made Pre-Covid but one that we were going to take our time with. With all that’s happened this year we decided to fast track it and whilst I’ve been looking so forward to a new start, a new life, as our departure date nears this excitement is still growing but simultaneously with it is a sense of mourning. Feels like ‘mourning’ has become the keyword search for 2020... a mourning of life before Covid, of family members who were lost to the virus, of friendships that waned, of businesses and of livelihoods for so many. It would be remiss of me however to not acknowledge the gains ... through this time, this community has been such a source of comfort and inspiration too. I’ve made new connections and possibly friends through this platform. My social justice fire has been ignited in ways I couldn’t have imagined possible, my creativity feels abundant and I’ve been so inspired by so many of you... especially the mothers who’ve been hustling hard, the ones who have been pregnant in isolation, who’ve birthed during unprecedented times who’ve kept their children alive and well during a global pandemic, and those who’ve had to work from home and do all the things. I am you and you are me and the sharing of all of these experiences has touched me profoundly. I never thought I’d ever leave this insanely complex and painfully beautiful place and it’s people, and get quite irked when some refer to it as immigration because that word seems so 80’s and final. Because in its immensity, the world is actually quite small in no small part thanks to the digital realm and for this reason the New Normal will continue as is. I’ll admit that I’m totally freaking out about getting older. I see it, feel it, my brain and my mirror remind me constantly and it’s an undeniable fact that I’m aging. I’m almost feeling anxiety in the fact that I will be 50, 60, 80 before I know it and I’m halfway there. 😭 It’s almost my half birthday and when is the last time you even thought about your half birthday...when you were 6?!? Then, I saw this picture we took boating tonight. It’s unfiltered, real, wrinkles, happy creases and eyes that tell a good tale. [ STUFFING UP ] Yesterday I had a conversation with a potential client about why we weren’t successful in winning the work and lemme tell you, the feedback wasn’t pretty 😳 What I do know, however, is that she was 100% right. Everything she kindly shared with me were things I had flagged with the team only recently that we needed to address and improve on. But we didn’t. We’ve been bogged down in operationally running the business.... These are the things that get left behind AND bite you in the backside. These are the things that can break businesses down and force them to shut their doors. I reflected ALOT since that conversation and this is what came out of it: 👉🏾 “bad” reviews and feedback is necessary for growth. It gives you a nudge at the blind spots in your business. 👉🏾 how you “react” and take the feedback is absolutely key. I did not try to justify myself yesterday. Rather, I thanked her for being so honest (not enough people are) and let her know we were definitely taking it on board. 👉🏾 the lost opportunity will win me so much more work in the future. See this “loss” as an investment and move forward. Try not to get bogged down in what you didn’t do. Look ahead and focus. I am extremely grateful to this lady for having the balls to share this with me as it’s made me see that my intuition knows best and getting distracted from the niggles I receive isn’t always the best thing. The other day I actually got dressed. Hard to believe but it’s a rarity these days. I know I haven’t posted in a bit about my illlness. But about 4 weeks ago I found out that I have chronic Epstein Barr virus. Alongside of that I have some pretty big vitamin deficiencies that are probably part of the cause of why I got sick and my body isn’t recovering. So a relief to have some kind of diagnosis but at the same time no end time on how long healing will be. I’m working with some health professionals to get my body healthy again. So I’m doing everything I know to stay healthy. But relying on God(feel free to heal me anytime now big guy 🙃) my hubs and the help of my dear friends. This picture is special to me because I had a lot of fun just expressing myself through getting dressed and felt better for doing it. Sometimes it’s just the small things. And sometimes laying bed is what I need. I’m learning that just because I have a good couple of days doesn’t mean I should try and get in as much as possible although I’m eager to. Healing our bodies when we are sick is a process and I want to honor that as much as possible. One of the things I’m passionate about in my line of work is cultivating equality for women and promoting equal representation in the sport of skiing. Sometimes it’s a battle, but it’s nothing like the battle waged by women who fought for our right to vote. 100 years ago today the US adopted the 19th Amendment - the right for women to vote - which is such a big deal! A 100 years sounds like a long time but when you say it happened in 1920 that doesn’t seem so long ago does it? Voting is not something any of us, man or woman, should EVER take for granted. There are many of you who may feel like your vote doesn’t really matter so why bother, but it does matter! Especially when it’s Local and State level politics. If you happen to live in Tahoe it’s pretty dang important to vote in our district (4th) - a candidate can win by just a few hundred to a few thousand votes. So... Hello Friends, Ezra here from Magic In The Other. I sincerely hope everyone is doing as well as they can during these unprecedented and uncertain times. A lot has happened since weve last reached out and rather than dwell on the backdrop that were all too aware of, I thought I would just get right to the heart of our message today. The last 3 years of having the honor of leading Magic In The Other have been amazing for me. When I started the band in the spring of 2017 I couldnt have imagined what it would have grown into and the impact it would have on my life and the the musical relationships and friendships that would deepen and grow out of it. I also couldnt have imagined the amazing community that would grow around the band, and Roger, Steve and I are so grateful for all of you that have supported us and cheered us on along the way.
