Ο Jesse Burke φωτογράφιζε τη κόρη του, Clover, μεταξύ πέντε και εννέα ετών, κατά τη διάρκεια ταξιδιών που έκαναν διασχίζοντας την Αμερική. Οι εικόνες αυτές αποτελούν τμήμα μιας σειράς 134 φωτογραφιών που δημοσιεύτηκαν σε βιβλίο της Daylight Books τον Νοέμβριο του 2015, το οποίο έκλεινε με σημειώσεις από τους δυο συνεργάτες – πατέρα και κόρη. Η σημείωση του Burke γράφει σε ένα σημείο: «Ο νους μου είναι γεμάτος κινούμενες εικόνες, με εσένα να τρέχεις στη θάλασσα καθώς χασκογελάνε οι γλάροι από ψηλά, με εσένα να μαζεύεις μακρόστενες λωρίδες από φλοιό σημύδας και ριγωτά φτερά από γαλοπούλες, με εσένα κι εμένα να πλένουμε αθόρυβα τα δόντια μας ο ένας πλάι στον άλλο, κάτω από το βουητό της πράσινης λάμπας φθορισμού στην τουαλέτα του μοτέλ μας...». Στο τέλος του βιβλίου η Clover απαντά: «Πήραμε στην αγκαλιά μας πουλιά, λαγουδάκια, σαλαμάνδρες και έντομα... Θυμάμαι τη στιγμή που είδα την ψόφια φάλαινα και πόσο άσχημα μύριζε». Το 2016, o Burke συγκαταλέχθηκε από το περιοδικό TIME ανάμεσα στους 50 φωτογράφους που αξίζει να ακολουθήσεις στο Instagram. Τότε, με αφορμή τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης Wild & Precious στο μουσείο Rhode Island School of Design στο Providence, είχε πει στο VICE: «Πολύ γρήγορα συνειδητοποίησα ότι η σχέση μας δεν ήταν μια σχέση σκηνοθέτη και υποκειμένου, αλλά μια σχέση συνεργάτη προς συνεργάτη. Edible forest in the floodplain area. City deserters… Scenario We find ourselves in conditions in which the last volumes of water are disappearing from the landscape. The soil has lost its fertility due to intensive farming and the agricultural landscape is more like a hydroponic system, which is a “nurtured” with a nutritional “blend”. Landscape drainage has a destructive effect on the small water cycle and this destabilizes the climate. This condition is very twisted and unsuitable for life. The loss of biotops diversity has forced non-human entities out of their natural habitats. Life decrease in landscape causes the loss of biodiversity. The absence of the fundamental actors from this intertwined web threatens the environment and its inhabitants with its collapse. The human community is tied to natural processes and therefore we should care about phenomena such as the presence of insects in the landscape, or its ability to provide shelter for other living creatures. We are (transforming) artificial water levels and sealing off drainage systems from the fields. We are letting out water from water reservoirs in every direction. We are irrigating fields, meadows and forests. On these formerly dried-up plains we are designing the future floodplain landscapes. In such territories, edible forests with various bearing abilities can grow. We therefore sustain the forest structures in diverse stages of their natural succession. creatures.
