Since I’ve never formally introduced myself on here, I thought it might finally be time - Hi! I’m Erin, I’m a Naturopathic Doctor at the very lovely @luminate_co Wellness Clinic. Most people just call me Erin, but I also answer to Dr. Erin, Dr. Edmonds, and Dr. E 😉. At @luminate_co I have a general and integrative practice and love treating everything from general wellness & preventative health, to chronic pain, autoimmune conditions, digestive health, hormonal/endocrine disorders, women’s health, men’s health, pediatrics - you name it, it’s probably within my range of clinical interests! I believe optimal health takes a multidisciplinary and integrative approach. There is really great evidence-based clinical research available for natural interventions but we can also sometimes require pharmaceutical medications as well. My main job is to make sure that whatever combination of treatments is determined to be the best course of action, everything is working safely and synergistically together to achieve maximal symptom improvement! Happy #IndependentBookstoreDay! Earlier this week I was able to go into my local indie @brooklinebooksmith to sign #WhereDreamsDescend preorders, and it was honestly such an experience. Not only because I was floored by all the preorders (thank you all SO much wow!! 😭), but also because before this, I hadn’t been in a bookstore since March. 8 years ago today I joined a start-up called Beautycounter. I took a huge risk joining basically an idea. We had no products, a one room office, small staff and no Consultants. However we had a mission to get safer products into the hands of everyone. We had a visionary and tenacious leader in our Founder and CEO @greggrenfrew who saw so clearly what we could become. And we knew we were creating something that would have a meaningful and lasting impact on the beauty industry. My early teammates soon became my new family and support system. Those early days were exciting, challenging, frustrating and exhilarating. As I look back on the countless meetings, events, conversations, flights and yes moments of doubt, I know one thing for sure...I made the right decision in joining Beautycounter. There are so many conflicting ideas and facts in this industry. I will learn something from one educator and then read blog post from another well known artist that directly contradicts it. It’s because this industry is so young. I’ve literally spent thousands on courses and the biggest thing I’ve learned is.. (besides basic shit) everyone does it different. Do what works for you!!! If you hear one thing and then hear a direct contradiction... just try it for yourself. Didn’t work? Don’t do it. I see artists all the time posting and talking about lash wrapping. I learned it in an expensive course. Do I do it? Nope. Do I have retention issues? Nope. That’s all. Learn basics from people that are better and then forge your own way. I opened liberty and lace 2 years ago with no business being in the bridal industry. I am a fitness instructor and have owned my studio, @thewallcycling since 2012. I’m an expert in making you sweat for a living and helping you feel your best. People thought I was crazy for jumping into bridal but I always said “just watch - it’s going to turn into something great.” And that it did.The shop grew, has been 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘺 successful for its size and I have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful women in their search for their perfect dress. Some have even become good friends. When COVID-19 hit, I found myself juggling two businesses, in two industries that were getting their asses kicked. I am only one person and small business ownership x 2 during a pandemic has been one of the most challenging things I think I will ever experience. My mentality is If I can’t put my whole heart into something I am working on, I shouldn’t be doing it. Sadly, I had to decide between one love and the other and I have decided to sell the store to one of my dear and wonderful friends, Kate so I focus on my fitness studio, but most importantly be with my family as much as possible. Kate has been working with me for over a year and I truly believe she was put in my life for a reason. She has been a believer of the mentality and brand I have created since the first day she walked in the store. She is going to do wonderful things in this industry and help so many brides feel fabulous. I’m grateful for this experience, I’m proud of what I’ve created & built and I’m still in pinching myself that someone believed so much in what i created, they bought my business from me during a global pandemic. Flashback Thursday – is that a thing? #itisnow I shared this on my stories (𝙨𝙘𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙡) last week and it went nuts. Not only did it resonate with me but it clearly did with you ladies as well. I get asked quite often what is my best piece of advise for someone either starting out in business or knee deep in it and no my answer isn’t; engage, Facebook ads, show your face.. It’s 𝘾𝙊𝙉𝙎𝙄𝙎𝙏𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙔 – show up every damn day and do not give up no matter the circumstances. The women you see on the gram that are shining bright in their business didn’t get this far by just posting a pretty picture and hoping for the best. 🖤 They spent countless nights not sleeping because their brain was full off creative juices. 🖤They neglected their kids a little bit more than they’d like to admit to reply to their customers questions that are clearly stated on the website but they value that customer and value that sale so they reply nicely even though those kids are going nuts around them. 🖤They don’t have the luxury of switching off on weekends or 9-5 because their customers are home from their day job and need their attention. 🖤They spend their free time packing orders even though their eyes are hanging out of their head and say no to friend dates because they’d rather make a strangers day by sending their order. Anyway I could go on but the point is..𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙔 𝙉𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙍 𝙂𝘼𝙑𝙀 𝙐𝙋! Not when they were tired, not when they received bad feedback, not when someone directly copied their design and not when they didn’t get any sales for months on end. See you think I am not watching you, but I am. 😉 You say you want to run a successful online business but you spend MONTHS trying to perfect your website, your workflow, your application that you are COMPLETELY missing the things you ACTUALLY need to be doing. Doesn’t matter how great your website looks or how pretty your logo came out to be, if you are not showing up and putting all those skills into work, youre going to stay EXACTLY where you are today. Which you may ask? ⚡️it was CONSISTENTLY investing, building a GENUINE relationship with the right IDEAL CLIENT (because let’s face it, we are all “building” relationship but then allow ourselves to get friend-zoned), and most importantly I was hoping that people would just love me for who I was so that I could avoid the dread sales call. 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘐 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵? Is that resisting all of that was just me resisting the pivot and growth that my business needed? So I did that. Taking a minute to reflect on this past weekend and how amazing it was! For my first big market, and first time on the Charlotte vendor scene, I had a truly wonderful time. I met so many creative and talented women who are running their own businesses, many while still working full-time jobs, and absolutely killing it. I was so nervous to be in the presence of companies who have an established following, repeat customers, and friends in the maker world because I didn’t think I was good enough to be in the same room. After hearing so many stories from people who were in my same boat this time last year, I am inspired to keep going and keep pursuing this business! It helps identify and pick up pre-cancerous changes so we can stop the progression! 📊Cancer Research UK documented that latest figures showed less than 75 percent of women were undertaking their cervical smear. 👉🏾This falls even further in younger age groups and deprived regions of the country. 👩🏾🦱👵🏽👩🏿🧕🏽Jos Trust survey showed 56% of Black, Asian and Ethnic minorities delayed screening. 15.8 % delaying it by 3 years! ❓Why do womxn NOT go to their screening appointment? 🙇🏽♀️Cancer Research shows it can be down to embarrassment or fear of pain. Others said they had no symptoms therefore did not bother. 🙌🏾We want to reassure you! Då var det ju min tur att presentera mig lite närmre.. den andra halvan av @brollopsbubbel 🥂✨ Jag heter Louise, är 31 år och bor i Trollhättan tillsammans med min fästman Jonas och våra två barn Inga-Lisa 4 år och Ejde 1 år. 👨👩👧👦💕 Jag har nog drömt om att få gifta mig sedan jag föddes och älskar allt som har med kärlek och bröllop att göra 😊 När Jonas friade till mig i februari i år så startade jag några månader senare kontot @brollopspiff där jag delar med mig av vår bröllopsresa. Innan det har jag sedan Inga-Lisa var bebis drivit kontot @minimat.se där jag delat med mig av barnmatsinspiration och allmänt föräldraliv 😅🥳✨ Till vardags jobbar jag som marknadsansvarig och det är fantastiskt! 🙏🏼 5 snabba om mig: 1️⃣ Uppvuxen ute på vischan i Dalsland, flyttade hemifrån strax före jag fyllde 16 så snart har jag bott lika länge på andra ställen som där jag växte upp! 2️⃣ Jag älskar också bubbel precis som Viktoria och det kanske är därför namnet Bröllopsbubbel blev så självklart för oss 🥂✨ 3️⃣ Mellan våra två barn fick vi en liten bebis med ett så allvarligt hjärtfel att vi tyvärr var tvungna att avbryta den graviditeten efter rutinultraljudet i vecka 20. Det har gjort mig väldigt tacksam men också ödmjuk inför hur det är ”skaffa barn”(ett uttryck jag inte gillar), så många av oss delar brokiga resor på vägen dit. 💔 4️⃣ Har jobbat flera år som projektledare och har enligt mig själv rätt bra minne och känsla för strategi och struktur…., korttidsminnet däremot är fruktansvärt och så fort jag skall använda min telefon måste jag alltid(!) leta upp den först.. lokalsinnet ska vi inte ens prata om min bästis @julias.foto sa en gång att det var ungefär lika bra som en brödrost 🙈😅 5️⃣ Jag älskar allt som kan ge livet lite extra känsla, blommor, fina gardiner, kramar, en ny klänning eller en liten post-it lapp på mjölkpaketet med en morgonhälsning på! I just watched the first US presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. What. A. Shit. Show. It was like listening to a bratty 8-yr old rich kid have a public fight with his parents over wanting the latest PlayStation game. “Shut up, MooOoom!” . Now if this display of extreme malignant deliberation tells us anything, it’s that the bloodsport of US politics is going to get even uglier. Yet beyond this, it’s both demonstrative of how the concept of democracy is so deeply flawed AND how “leadership” has become so utterly crass. . Democracy is a set of principles based on freedom - yet democracy itself is NOT freedom. Democracy is simply the institutionalisation of freedom + thus can only be effectual when the institution itself is upholding values of decency + equality. Yet when democracy cannot be trusted, does that mean that freedom itself has been eroded? And when a President does not uphold freedom for ALL THE PEOPLE, then how can his existence even be considered democratic? . When asked point blank to denounce white supremacy in the debate tonight, Trump refused + instead told neo-fascist group ‘Proud Boys’ to “stand by”. Yes you just read that right. The sitting President just REFUSED TO OPPOSE white supremacy + instead instructed a violent white nationalist group to be ready for his next order. . Let’s be very clear here: freedom can be stolen. Democracy can break down. And this election could easily bring about bloodthirsty dissonance + a genuine constitutional crisis. . Democracy is not about winners. Democracy is not about losers. Democracy is about creating *appeased losers* - voters who are satisfied that they lost fairly. So what happens when voters are not gratified with democratic decorum? What happens when a President has a real problem with accepting defeat? And lastly, what happens when the “leader of the free world” is actively working to defame democracy while openly refusing to denounce white supremacy? . What just happened was huge. We just witnessed the most meaningful abstract of political narcissism - a display of how the President thinks his “democracy” is exempt from critique. PROVE HIM WRONG AMERICA. Vote Biden. Just over here “casually” creating a sample board.🤣 my favorite part of this shoot with @malaikahilson was that I got to honor my mema in every shot by rocking her chain. She was the most creative woman I’ve ever known. Her ability to make something out of nothing never ceased to amaze me. From her hand sewn church fits, to the matching outfits she made for me ☺️, to decorative wreaths, drapery...the list goes on and on. And I can’t forget her perfectly styled living room with hand upholstered items. The memory of her velvet blue chairs lives on. I started my business in February of this year. The plan was to sell our products through markets, events, and pop up shops, as well as through our online store. Shortly after opening, the world shut down. Then, in addition to being a new business owner, I also became a teacher, which was definitely an adjustment. Three children, two different grades, and one wild toddler. Some days are harder than others, but we push through. Everyday, I remind myself that humans are capable of SO much. We are strong, resilient, powerful individuals that can face and conquer just about any challenge presented. This has been an interesting year to say the least. A definite eye opener. We are looking forward to this next year and we can’t wait to see where it takes us. We started with hand painted Terra-Cotta planters and made a switch to handmade clay jewelry. In addition to our handmade pieces, we are also adding products from other creators and women owned companies. We are a women power brand‼️ Every customer is very important to us and we strive to provide excellent customer service to make your experience a positive one. ~Maybe you’ve been assigned this mountain to show others it can be moved~ Not sure how many times it’s normal to cry in one week but here I am again, overcome with emotion and gratitude for the people in my life and the lessons, the gifts and yes- even the challenge of the past 2 years. Purpose is EVERYTHING! It gives your life meaning. And service to others will always lead you back to yourself. I’m entirely grateful to be part of a mission that is so much greater than myself, it meant in hard times that I couldn’t and wouldn’t falter, because I felt a deep sense of responsibility to show up for others when I couldn’t show up for myself. Without this I would have been lost. PURPOSE! It’s incredible how the universe puts the right people in your path in the right moments. How things always come full circle. Year 2020 is opposite than what I thought it would be. The one thing that has remained consistent throughout these last 2 years of entrepreneurship is the lack of consistency from my day to day schedule. From designing, to coordinating orders with printers, tracking expenses, to client calls, everyday is a new adventure. That’s why I always start my morning with the same routine... a 5am wake up call followed by a yoga class. 💻 I’m going to be honest, I never wanted to be own my boss. The business side scares me and makes me feel frustrated. But I LOVE being a photographer, working with people, and photographing them. I tried working for a corporate photography company (Kiddie Kandids) but I hated how strict they were with how I posed clients, that I had to rush clients through 15mins sessions and push their biggest packages plus extras (for only 6 images that I actually took). I didn’t like that I couldn’t develop a personal relationship with the clients I was working with. My husband has been one of my biggest supporters in letting me know I can be both a photographer AND a business owner. With being a business owner (and my own employee) I have very high expectations for myself of what I provide my clients. I continually take classes and workshops to better myself as a business owner and photographer. Even though I never planned to be my own boss, I’m happy that I am. Sit down and write out your weeks worth of posts. Want to take it one step further? Plan out what picture you will post with each post you wrote. Do you remember the last time you felt really stuck? Gosh, for me it’s the new norm, most of the time I have no idea of the technologies I am learning. Plus juggling homeschooling and working from home! So, If I could go back and give my past-self five pieces of advice that my current-self has learned, during this working from home life, they would be: 1. Wearing normal clothes (instead of pijamas or sweat pants) every day improve dramatically your productivity. 2. Working at a desk really helps you to focus on getting the work done as oppose to sitting on the couch and getting distracted easily. 3. Sticking to a routine is the best way to be consistent. 4. An organised and realistic To-Do list (3 to 5 things) helps to get on top of what really matters. 5. Doing exercise every day really helps to connect to your body. Since I can’t travel through time, I’m focusing on being grateful for the lessons I’ve learned, even if I had to learn them the hard way! They’ve taught me to be patient and manage uncertainty in a better way. My Customer Journey Didn’t Make Sense For The Longest Time 👇🏻 The first half of last year my product suite went a little something like this: 👉🏻Soulful Social Group Program 👉🏻1:1 Coaching I literally launched them back to back to back. My energy was complete shit. Tell me if you relate… Ya girl loves launching but back to back to back? No way. I had 2 problems: 👉🏻I didn’t have an offer for my ideal customer who couldn’t afford Soulful Social 👉🏻I had a hard time taking my clients FROM Soulful Social to my 1:1 coaching since it was a big jump So I was ❌Losing out on a lot of dream clients ❌Making it 10 times harder on myself There was a gap in my product suite. This gap was making it hard for my customer journey to make sense. That’s when I introduced my Mastermind ✅ and no, I didn’t just come up with it and launch it 🤪 I strategically planned the future of it & how it can truly impact my customer journey in 2-3 years. So now it went: Soulful Social — Mastermind — 1:1 Coaching Now my customer journey was EASIER & made MORE sense for the different touch points of my ideal customer. This led to more consistent income, more ways to work with me & easier customer journey. Eventually, I filled the OTHER gap of offering a lower touch point offer before entering Soulful Social. I’m definitely not a naturally organised person but I try!! 🤣 Gotta get points for that right? 🙈 This is what I do on Sunday’s to help stay on track for the week: 1️⃣ Write down my work to-do’s for the week. 2️⃣Crosscheck my calendar on my iPhone and make a mental note of appointments for the week. 3️⃣Make the school lunches, this is a makes a huge difference to how organised I feel for some reason I don’t know why but it works! 4️⃣Write a do-list for Monday. 5️⃣Relax in the bath!
