Yesterday I celebrated 10 years of marriage with this hunk, and while weve certainly had our more epic trip locations (just look at the Santorini version of us!), getting to soak up a quiet, peaceful day with our two girls in a slow beach town was the perfect benchmark on a decade of marriage. We arrived on a day where lots of things seemed to be going awry from our rental to our childrens attitudes and that night after I had nearly wrestled my off-spring into bed I asked Shawn with desperation to save the 10-year anniversary memories what can we do to turn this trip around? ...and so we made a plan. The next day we woke up for sunrise, we threw the schedule out the window, and we grabbed takeout + ice cream from two of the lovelies, tastiest spots Ive tried. We rolled down hills, and walked in the rain, and flew kites and chased a sunset in the car. After 14 years together, I think this salvaged 10th anniversary was the best explanation of marriage that I can give. Its mostly fun, and always rewarding, but can take hard work to keep it that way. Gents, stop what you’re doing because I’m going to share something with you that is going to drastically change your life. . I know this is true because odds are pretty good that you’re going to be, at some point, interacting and engaging with our fairer female counterparts. . out of office ✨ spending a weekend on a ranch was never one of my top vacation choices, but 2020 came to shake up our regular lives and now spending my weekends in remote places is amongst my favorite things. I’m always online; for work, for my blog (and because I’m such a millennial 🙃), therefore disconnecting + relaxing has become increasingly hard. This past week was extremely stressful and so exhausting; I ended up with neck and back pain for things that are way beyond my control. The cure? I’ve unfollowed almost every fitness account on my feed. I’ve done a lot of self-reflecting this year and have realized I followed a lot of people on social media that didn’t make me feel very good about myself. I’ve shared with you all that I’ve had a lot of injuries and I can’t push myself the way I once used to in my fitness. It’s been hard to accept. What I’ve learned: It’s about balance, accepting, and listening to your body. A year ago, I’d never wear these shorts because I was so self-conscious of my hips. News flash! I’m not 21 any more, my job isn’t working out, and I have several injuries that require me to modify workouts. IT👏🏼IS👏🏼FINE! It’s ok to not look like we did 10 years ago. And my friend, it’s ok to unfollow accounts that don’t make you love your body right where it is. Sure we push ourselves, strive for better, and of course the result can be a 6-pack, but sometimes, the result is just feeling better and stronger. Mentally first, and then physically. We were almost surfers. Welp, summer in Maine has come and gone. And with it, our dreams of becoming surfers. Last month we bought wet suits and planned a surfing lesson with our buddy @mattgladd That same week a woman was tragically killed by a great white shark off the coast of Maine. Although incredibly rare and an obvious risk it was enough to keep us in shallow water (for now.) We’re trying to work up the courage to get out there but I’m convinced that sharks are attracted to pale, bearded men who smell like cocoa butter. It’s no surprise to anyone that this year has been a doozy. We decided to take matters into our own hands and step away from it all for a little breather. This weekend we spent 4 days deep in Superior National Forest and away from all the people and stress. Not sure what my favorite part was: the fully eco-friendly treehouse we stayed in, the many moments we spent up on our overlook drinking beer and watching the clouds, all the quiet reading time I got, or every single one of the many many steps we logged hiking both the shore and the cliffs. I’m so excited to finally tell everyone. Troy and I were contacted by Dwell Magazine( Architectural and design professionals) a few months ago. It’s been a true honor to be featured In their newest addition. I know my father had a hand in this, I feel his presence when I’m there... which is almost daily now. We are enjoying every bit of designing and building our cabins. The Lily Pad is named after our oldest granddaughter, Lily Theodora. Our First cabin The Ivy Cottage was named after our youngest granddaughter Ivy Lynn, we finished it first August of 2019. We are in the process of building our 3rd unique cabin which will feature an indoor basketball hoop🏀. And, you guessed it, it’s for our daughter Erica, who has played basketball since age 3..lol. **THERAPY** Going back to therapy since the madness of lockdown stopped my sessions back up North, I felt like I really needed to do a post about it because Ive had a lot of messages asking what I get out of therapy! . . WHY I LOVE THERAPY Think of it this way; if we want to get a new job or a new skill, we learn and progress, so why should we not do this with ourselves? Life throws so much sh*t at us daily that unless you gain the tools you need to process, reflect and use those experiences in a positive way, you can end up with your sunshine being a little duller than it could be! . . WHEN DID I START? I first went to therapy back when I was 21 and felt like I was having a mid-life crisis (the only way I can describe it) because no matter how together my life seemed, I could not figure out why I wasnt satisfied like everyone around me was! After a few months work really getting to know myself it was then that I realised... . . ITS OKAY TO BE DIFFERENT I have talked on my stories about loneliness and this is down to being different, whether it be my outlook on life, what I get enjoyment from or living plastic free in a world where there is so much waste! What Ive learned is its AMAZING to be different, if you do what makes you happy then that is key to living! . . WHAT IS A THERAPIST LIKE? Talking to a therapist is basically like having someone that listens and helps figure out what YOU need, there is no judgment and they can listen/help without projecting their own past and opinions on to you (like friends/family would because they want the best for you). We are SO proud to say... we paid off our home y’all! 🍾🥂🏡 Hard to believe it but we managed to pay off a 30 year mortgage in only 6 years. It finally stopped raining today and I was able to snap a pic just before the sun went down. #hosted . We checked out @zionwildflower in Utah for my 31st birthday! 🤩 (2.5 hours away from Vegas) This resort offers “glamping”, the new way to go camping. They have different options depending on what you’d be comfortable with. They have wagons, tents or you can choose a bungalow. All include actual bathrooms no matter what you choose. We chose a bungalow because I need electricity for my CPAP machine, we also love the AC because that’s so convenient. They come with their own small porches with rocking chairs and the views from all of them are phenomenal, you are surrounded by Mountain View’s that will take your breath away. They come with a k-cup machine loaded with cups, microwave, mini fridge with a good size shower that will leave you thinking, damn camping is fun. 🙌🏼😂 . There’s various outdoor yard activities you can choose from like cornhole, jenga. spike ball, ping pong, and you can even grab a complimentary bike. They had bikes for all ages and some dual seat bikes, you just go grab what you’d like to use and off you go. . First night from 8pm-10pm you’ll go to the office and pick up your complimentary s’mores kit for the fire pit. They also have a BBQ food truck on the weekends as well from 7-10pm! The office has ice pops, ice, drinks and snacks for purchase. . We really enjoyed seeing all the kids playing like the olden days... so simple and no electronics! During our stay I saw kids painting rocks (I found a rock check my last photo!) dancing, playing various sports and some even brought their remote control cars to play in the dirt with. Just felt like a nice break from the chaos big cities bring. This would be such a cool place to have for a big family reunion or even to spend the holidays here and set up a small cute tree! . The brand new Houston Botanic Garden just opened its doors and it’s absolutely beautiful. Yesterday we had a chance to stroll around its enchanting trails and had so much fun discovering plants and flowers from all over the world. The temperature is supposed to be dropping next weekend so I highly recommend it! Our brain has a way of gripping onto the negative. One bad comment/thing can make all the good ones disappear, it’s how most of our minds function. Through developing a mindfulness practice and adopting an abundant perspective, that can change- it’s what I’m working diligently towards now. When we stop to think of how abundant our lives are = count the small blessings as big ones, we begin to foster and prime our brains to see the good around us. Ever buy a car and all of a sudden see it everywhere ? Same thing happens with gratitude. Call it out, write it down and you’ll begin to see it more often than not. This was our first time spending the night away from our dogs & away from home since March! We felt safe and spent most of our time outdoors. We visited the farm, rode horses, met chickens, threw hatchets, swam, hiked, and journaled lots. Путь складывался сам, но при этом это было тяжело физически и морально. Во все вникали сами, почти всё муж делал своими руками. Все делалось долго, но... Уже через 2 года мы въехали свой ДОМ 🏡 И это было прекрасно! . До сих пор наш ремонт не окончен, дома нет дверей, плинтусов, потолка, черновая лестница и голые стены в 3 комнатах, но это не мешает нам наслаждаться тем, что уже сделано!
