Buildings can be rebuilt. Chefs can open new restaurants. But the very real outpouring of anguish — from locals, from colleagues, from current and former staff (see IG Stories above) — for the fire destruction at @therestaurantmw is a testament to how much this restaurant, like so many others in Wine Country, is connected to its community. Napa Valley is a true small town, one bound — and defined by — a common hospitality industry. That’s why these relentless fires, year after year, are so painful. The people who work in Wine Country chose to build their lives there, raise families there. And at this moment, nearly 70K people have been evacuated during the Glass Fire. And that’s just *this* time around, in what is becoming an increasingly deflating annual rerun. And whether fine dining is your thing or not, the Meadowood team, in that beautiful room, felt like leaders in that community, people at the pinnacle of their chosen profession. There’s a cruel twist that a restaurant that built itself around celebrating Napa Valley was felled by that same place. But as the excerpt from @ckostow’s book implies (second photo), I do hope that all the good things built there will not be defined by physical walls. As you can see in the exclusive rendering above, we were inspired by the iconic mid-20th century architecture that the Polynesian is famous for. The colors, patterns and textures found throughout the resort are reflected in the design of the new porte cochere with a high-pitched open-truss roof covered in a thatch style and a bold façade that complements the Longhouses. The monorail station will be transformed with bold new wooden screens covered with geometric patterns in bright, tropical colors. The Polynesian is a fan favorite and our Imagineering and Walt Disney World teams are excited to bring these new changes to life in this iconic resort. Estamos muy contentos de haber logrado la autorización ambiental para la construcción del nuevo Hospital Sótero del Río 😀 👉Este lunes 7 de septiembre, la Comisión de Evaluación Ambiental de la Región Metropolitana aprobó por unanimidad la construcción del nuevo Hospital Sótero del Río en la comuna de Puente Alto, Santiago. El nuevo recinto de salud, a cargo de Sacyr, beneficiará a más de 1,5 millones de personas y contempla la construcción de un nuevo establecimiento que reemplace al actual recinto en un terreno de 30 hectáreas y con una superficie de 213.803 metros cuadrados. 🏥Las obras albergarán un edificio principal en forma de placa con tres niveles y tres módulos, además de dos subterráneos donde habrá un cuarto modulo. Además, contará con un total de 710 camas, 39 pabellones, y especialidades como cardiología, neurocirugía, traumatología, entre otras. 🔉Ante esto, el intendente de la región Metropolitana, Felipe Guevara, manifestó que “sin duda es una gran noticia para la región y para los habitantes del sector suroriente de la capital, ya que el nuevo recinto será de alta complejidad y entregará atención hospitalaria y ambulatoria, beneficiando a cerca de 1,5 millones de personas de la Provincia Cordillera, específicamente de las comunas de La Florida, Puente Alto, Pirque y San José de Maipo”. 🇨🇱En Chile, nuestra empresa es líder en infraestructura hospitalaria, con la adjudicación de 6 hospitales, que suman más de 2.400 camas y casi 629.000 m2. a warm, breezy afternoon in the backyard / (sehan) صحن / (aangan) آنگَن . . . I’m realising backyards, terraces and rooftops etc ( آنگَن, صحن, چھت ) actually form such a huge part of our day to day south Asian culture. Definitely a very significant part of the architecture of every home. Whether thats your nani/dadi (grandmother) knitting in the afternoon with some cool nimbu paani (lemonade) or roohafza, your dad reading his morning newspaper with a cup of chai before going to work, an all cousins sleepover with charpai’s on the چھت (roof) to escape the summer heat or the whole family hanging out over chai and samosay/pakoray in the backyard every evening. There’s always something happening in these spaces of the house. . . I actually started drawing this on Eid a few weeks ago. I was super bored and watching weird eid specials on Pakistani tv. Bari Eid is usually the one where I’m in Pakistan for summer and have family bbqs in our backyards and terraces/rooftops for Eid. Sadly, none of that was possible this year & we didn’t get to meet any family, so I spent my time drawing this instead. . . 2020 B.arch Architectural Thesis Expressions of the Past : Serai-i-Firdaus, A luxury hotel in Taj Ganj, Agra by @srishtijauhri Reviving the glorious past of the Mughal Era, through ‘experience’ based hospitality design India’s rich cultural and architectural heritage, is recognized the world over. The built heritage of the country is not just restricted to visual richness, grandeur and monumentality but exhibits an interesting use of space, leading to the creation of a variety of experiences and giving a strong character to its cities. The aim of this thesis was to understand and interpret the essence of spaces in heritage buildings and apply it to the design of a building in today’s times, thus forming an expression of the past. India’s rich heritage has given rise to a high rate of heritage tourism, especially in the city of Agra. Hospitality, plays an important role, in the fostering of the country’s tourism sector. Architecturally, a ‘hotel building’ or in Islamic terms, a ‘serai’ or an inn, is the first exposure of a tourist, to the city being travelled to.
