My Mother’s Day appreciation post. I don’t typically makes these type of posts... ever, but today I need to make mention of someone who deserves so much more than a post... We all have a story, so much so that I have an entire page dedicated to the story before mine, and one story I’ve yet to share is my fathers. In time I will share what this man has endured, what he fought for, what he sacrificed, what he has taught me and still continues to do so everyday, what he values & Always his integrity and what he stands for. I realize there is a Father’s Day for these sorts of things, but I’m breaking the rules because just like the story of Nelly surviving on a farm alone, raising her children to be strong and resilient, our story repeated itself in a way & my father raised three children of his own by himself. He raised three children alone on the same farm Nelly raised her children on alone. Amazing what our story has taught us to be strong, to hang on, to keep fighting because you have to, you must simply keep going, and that because of Nelly & my father we have our farm today. More than 300,000 people in the streets witnessed the fall of Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic on 5 October 2000. The opposition had claimed victory in the September elections, but a Federal Election Commission called for a second ballot, claiming neither side had an outright majority. A general strike and mass protests followed. On 4 October 2000, Yugoslavias constitutional court annulled the election; by dawn the next day, people converged on Belgrade. By 4 pm protesters had captured the parliament building, and at 6.30 pm opposition leader Vojislav Kostunica addressed a rally of some half a million people and declared himself president. The image by Noel Patrick Quidu Gamma for Newsweek received Honorable Mention in the ‘General news, stories’ category of the 2001 World Press Photo Contest and is part of the special exhibition ‘People, Power: Documenting protest since 1957.’ In collaboration with @UNESCO, @unesconow and @minbz, the exhibition presents images that have become global symbols of people power and celebrates the work of professional photographers who are showing us the stories that matter. It will be displayed in public spaces across Rotterdam, Amsterdam and The Hague as part of the World Press Freedom Conference 2020, and is free for visitors. On #ThisDayInHistory in 1961, President John F. Kennedy signed legislation that established the Peace Corps as a permanent government agency. Kennedy described the new organization as an army of civilian volunteers-teachers, engineers, agricultural scientists, etc. – who would be sent to underdeveloped nations in Latin America, Africa, Asia, and elsewhere to assist the people of those regions. He hoped that by improving the lives of people in less developed countries, they would become more resistant to the charms of communism and be convinced of America’s sincerity and ability to help them. Some members of Congress saw it as an expensive public relations ploy wrapped in a new ribbon. The program turned out to have a popular appeal. Today, were celebrating Ellen Ochoas contributions to science in honor of #HispanicHeritageMonth 💫 Ochoa was the first Hispanic woman to go to space. She first served a nine-day mission aboard the Discovery Space Shuttle, where she and a team of astronauts studied Earths ozone layer. She returned to space three additional times, spending almost 1,000 hours in orbit. Today, Ochoa serves as the director of the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. As today marks the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11, we honor our client Neil Armstrong in making history as the first human ever to walk the moon. After traveling for 76 hours, Apollo 11 entered the orbit of the moon and soon after, Neil took the first step with the whole world watching on television. Let’s go. Astronaut Tom Stafford surveys things during water egress training for Gemini 6, Aug 1965. Mr. Stafford flew the near 26-hour mission with Project Mercury veteran Wally Schirra. He later flew on Gemini 9A in ‘66 with Eugene Cernan. The pair would fly again on Apollo 10 (also with John Young). Stafford commanded the historic mission, which was the first to fly a Lunar Module & the 2nd to orbit the moon. A10 came within 9 miles of the lunar surface. In 1975, he commanded the Apollo Soyuz Test Project. Astronaut Stafford logged an amazing 507 hours in space during his career.
