The last show I worked on with Aidan Fennessy was The Architect. It is a career highlight. Aidan Fennessy and Peter Houghton wielded their magic as one in that production. The amazing team they brought together delivered an incredibly beautiful piece of theatre that for many who saw it have found hard to forget. From day one of rehearsals until closing night, we somehow created a world of joy together even though onstage the world was about death and dying. That feeling will stay with me for a long long time. I wish we could all be in a rehearsal room together making Aidan’s words come to life once more. He had a wonderful heart, shared so much while he was with IGP, and was such an avid gardener. We’re extremely proud that Buro Happold Senior Structural Engineer Christopher Short has been awarded the 2020 Renee Redfern Hunt Prize by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). . The prize was awarded for the strongest essay submission produced during this summer’s chartered and member professional review session. . Christopher’s essay discusses the way civil engineers can promote the design and construction of affordable healthcare facilities in the developing world. He draws on his experience working with humanitarian organisation Doctors of the World to develop his argument. . Christopher has worked with the organisation since 2016, designing and implementing a series of medical clinics for their global operations. His essay explores how civil engineers can lead a new decentralised approach to healthcare facility design – with the aim of ensuring affordability, innovation and the retrofit of existing infrastructure. . For nearly 20 years, Cas Holman (@casholman) has been designing toys to engage the imagination and create a sense of discovery when at play. Her now-legendary creation Rigamajig is enjoyed in schools, homes, and on playgrounds around the world. It’s a no-batteries-required invention that encourages children (and, yep, also adults) to build their own worlds of wonder, and we’ve got no doubt that an entire generation of architects will cite Rigamajig as the toy that first gave light to the designer within. There is much to admire about all that Cas, who self-identifies as queer, does to promote inclusion—you can learn about her inspiring career in her episode on Season 2 of @abstractdesign, streaming on @netflix. The Clothing Hub will operate from today by appointment only, which is managed via invitations from caseworkers or by direct contact with Thread Together. 👉🏻 All clothing is displayed in a retail environment, providing a dignified way for vulnerable people to access new, excess clothing that they can have styled by staff for their particular needs. Fate brought him to Longyearbyen where he ran the northernmost bar in the world on the arctic island of Svalbard, with more polar bears than human beings. Sua pesquisa acadêmica se dá na área da Estética na perspectiva filosófica de Friedrich Schiller e Immanuel Kant, debatendo o conceito do belo na música e na concepção artística. Seus principais professores foram Osvaldo Colarusso (harmonia e análise – Brasil) e Markus Amgwerd (regência – Suíça). Atuou como regente da Orquestra de Câmara Municipal de Timbó de 2006 a 2016 e vem atuando como regente da Banda Municipal Professor João Müller (Timbó) desde 2002, regente assistente da Orquestra da Furb e Furb Jazz Band desde 2010. Lenzi atua ainda como coordenador do Projeto Pro-Música, bandas de música nas escolas municipais de Timbó, mantém intercâmbio com bandas da Alemanha e Itália, assim como colaborador e regente convidado nas associações PeruBandas e Pro-Bandas, em Lima, no Perú. Atua ainda como professor em cursos de Licenciatura em Música na Unoesc e Uniasselvi e regente convidado em bandas e orquestras. Selma Lagerlöf var på Nääs 22 somrar tillsammans med författarinnan Sophie Elkan runt sekelskiftet 1900. Sophies morbror ägde Nääs och hennes bror Otto Salomon var direktör på Nääs slöjdlärarseminarium. Vår medarbetare Marie Engelke forskar om Sophie Elkan genom hennes brev till Selma Lagerlöf. Based in Denver, Chris is an architect and developer who is passionate about creating sustainable, thriving communities. 🌿 Chris is the founder of Urban Roots Development, a company focused on crafting sustainable, mixed-use, outside-the-box development projects. Before Urban Roots, Chris co-founded @zocalocommunitydevelopment , where he served as principal for 12 years, overseeing the design, development, and construction of signature mixed-use and residential projects throughout the city. Chris to shared a few insights about his education and career: 1) What advice would you offer CAP students? Life within the four walls of architecture school may seem to offer all that a student needs to learn the profession. However, practicing architecture is social, engaged, and at times political, and it’s hard to develop all the necessary skills inside the studio. Take every opportunity to get out into the community and meet people related to the profession. Join the AIA and the Urban Land Institute. Participate in design-build opportunities. Attend a rezoning hearing at City Council. Buy the first piece of junk house you can afford and tear it up. Develop an area of interest and become an expert (sustainability, modular construction, mass timber). Leverage the platform that your school provides to launch a career. 2) How did CAP help you get where you are today? An architectural education must deliver the basic tools of the of the profession (history, design theory, computer skills)—but the real value is learning a non-linear way of thinking and the ability to stitch together great design with pragmatic realities. Like art, architecture can be abstract, visionary, and inspirational, and yet for architecture more so than art, gravity still applies (as does budget, building code, and programmatic requirements). An architect must travel between these worlds and weave them together into a successful design. Pragmatic realities are not obstacles; they are design opportunities. Meet Lou, a Co-Chair of the YLC Board this year! Lou is based in Austin and has been a YLC Board Member for almost two years now. Lou was born with a cleft lip and palate and learned about Smile Train through his doctors. He was always “not-so-secretly jealous” of their ability to give back with their clinical skill sets. When he learned about the YLC and the chance to get involved with Smile Train from an awareness and fundraising perspective, Lou jumped at the opportunity! Statt einer SONNTAGSFRAGE ein paar Sätze, die mir sehr am Herzen liegen: In den vergangenen Tagen und Wochen hat sich für mich selbstverständlich alles um „Die APP“ gedreht. Ganz und gar nicht selbstverständlich ist allerdings, wie sehr ihr euch dabei eingebracht habt. Ihr habt euch die Leseprobe herunter geladen, Fragen beantwortet, bereitwillig an den verschiedensten Aktionen teilgenommen und mich online zu Hause besucht. Ihr habt -gerade in den letzten Tagen - so unglaublich viel und oft über das Buch geschrieben und geredet, Fotos gepostet und Rezensionen verfasst, ihr habt mir unzählige Mails und Nachrichten geschrieben und mir eure Meinungen mitgeteilt, euren Familien, Freunden, Bekannten und Followern das Buch empfohlen, und, und, und ... Dafür möchte ich euch von ganzem Herzen DANKE sagen. Ich erlebe tagtäglich, wie sehr ihr mich in meinem wundervollen Beruf unterstützt, und das berührt mich sehr. Danke. .
