It’s been almost a year since my semi-official retirement from working with narcos after nearly dying in an ambush in Ciudad Juarez. Sometimes I look back these old iPhone pictures and the things I did in Mexico and wonder what I was thinking, but then I remember the intensity and excitement of it all and realize that if I could go back in time I would probably do it all again. Risks counterbalanced by privileged access to things that most people never get to see, and the things that access can teach you about the world. Like the fact that behind the guns and masks, for the most part these are really just people who were born into a world without opportunities and only want to be happy like the rest of us. With the new COD approaching we wanted to look back at some of the COD classics! Starting off with COD 4 MW(2007)! Overall this was the cod that put the franchise on the map as it shouldve. The multiplayer was amazing with the 10 prestiges ranking system, awesome weapons like the M4, G3, M60, and R700 as well as the phenomenal MP maps like crossfire, crash, vacant, SHIPMENT, ambush, bog etc. The campaign was amazing as you played from the viewpoints of the Marines and SAS vs Spetsnaz and Opfor. The AD Mk13 is the next iteration of the Mk13 Mod7 previously in service with USSOCOM Units. For years Special Operations Snipers have had to deal with a long sniper rifle package during full scale HALO/HAHO and SPIES/FRIES insertions as well as during grueling stalks. Adjusting even slightly to compensate for this during these operations presents even greater danger to the Operator before they even reach the target. The founding members have all used this rifle with great success in combat, but have always had to deal with its shortcomings, both in size and modularity. AD and other current Special Operations members designed this new Mk13 concept to adapt to the needs and rigors of the most current mission sets. The concept being that the rifle, with the addition of a suppressor attached, would still be approximately the same length as current unsuppressed sniper systems and with better balance. More compact size, greater recoil reduction, greater accuracy and less fatigue on the operator. This rifle is designed to be as bomb proof as it is accurate. Jump it out of a plane at 25,000ft, submerge it in the ocean’s salt water, or strap it to an ATV or Gun Truck in the dusty mountains of Afghanistan. Any two people can have wildly different attitudes toward the same set of experiences. Attitudes tend to be infectious, as they are based on an emotional interpretation of experience. During my first year in college, I was grabbed by the neck and thrown facefirst to the cement by two officers (both significantly larger than myself) seconds after answering the doorbell. I was charged with possession of alcohol. After many lawyer fees & photos of my bloodied face, this charge was dropped. Earlier that same year, someone filmed #Columbia police fatally shooting two dogs. Though one was in a cage, this pup was shot by multiple officers multiple times. The other was a Corgi. Generalizing is dangerous. Not all police are bad. But so many cops continue committing criminal acts in the name of the law. It is difficult to reflect upon these situations with a positive attitude. My general attitude toward police: FUCK em. I hope this attitude is infectious. #FTP #ColumbiaMO - @yezr on Instagram

Most folks who follow the @oldmauserman know that his collection consists mostly of well-used pieces of military surplus—many mismatches and misfits. While most photos generate favorable comments, some prompt criticisms jokes. Two of the most under appreciated firearms in the collection—and of their own time—belong to the Carcano and Nambu families of firearms. While few would put a Carcano on a pedestal next to a Mauser or a Lee-Enfield, it is a serviceable rifle. Light and easy to maintain, it performs well in the hands of an experienced shooter. The Nambu pistols have a reputation for being unreliable. With proper maintenance, strong springs, and the correct ammunition, it is not only reliable, but remarkably accurate. We all have our favorite surplus pieces. Few likely include the Nambus and Carcano among their favorites. Yet hundreds of thousands of them were produced and issued. They marched across swaths of Europe, Asia, and the Pacific. They performed well when properly maintained.
