Our History: The concept of founding the Committee of 100 came from the renowned architect, the late I.M. Pei and Dr. Henry Kissinger, 56th U.S. Secretary of State in 1988. Kissinger discussed with Pei the notion of organizing an influential group of Chinese Americans to address issues of international concern between the United States and China. Later in June of 1989, I.M. Pei became inundated with calls from reporters seeking his reaction as an influential Chinese American to the Tiananmen events. Pei felt that no single individual could adequately represent the Chinese American perspective. With a sense of urgency to build bridges between China and the United States, Pei teamed with master cellist Yo-Yo Ma, Henry S. Tang, Oscar Tang, Shirley Yang and Chien-Shiung Wu to recruit distinguished Chinese Americans from the arts, business, academia, public service, and the sciences to serve on the Committee of 100. #ChineseAmerican #USChina #C100 - @committee100 on Instagram

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month as we continue to highlight Latin artists and trailblazers of the silver screen. Here is Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III (March 2, 1917 – December 2, 1986), better known as Desi Arnaz, was a Cuban-American actor, musician, bandleader, comedian and film, television producer and revolutionary in the creation of modern television. He is best known for his role as the witty Ricky Ricardo on the American television series sitcom I Love Lucy, where he co-starred with his then wife Lucille Ball. Arnaz and Ball are generally credited as the innovators of the syndicated rerun, which they pioneered with the I Love Lucy series. Arnaz and Lucille Ball co-founded and ran the television production company called Desilu Productions, originally to market I Love Lucy to television networks. After I Love Lucy ended, Arnaz went on to produce several other television series, at first with Desilu Productions, and later independently. Desi Arnaz has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one at 6301 Hollywood Boulevard for contributions to motion pictures and one at 6250 Hollywood Boulevard for television. #DesiArnaz #ILoveLucy #producer #actor #musician #latino #hispanic #latinx #hispanicheritagemonth #trailblazer - @latinofilmmakers on Instagram

As in the best surrealist tradition, Hains was a flâneur, and the urban derive was an essential method of work for him. The streets were his workshop, and they gave rise to the affiches déchirées (torn posters) that he began working on in 1949 with Jacques Villeglé. Both artists captured fragments of old, ripped posters, and transformed them into large-scale abstract compositions. With these works, Hains produced a sui generis version of Informalism, and offered an ironic take on Abstract Expressionism, calling himself an “inaction painter”.

. . #tomjobim #antoniocarlosjobim #institutotomjobim #mpb #bossanova #musica #riogaleao #icatuseguros #piano #ipanema #brasilianmusic #pianoplayer #jazz #samba - @jobimoficial on Instagram

Young Mars story (link in bio) is really the story of anyone whos ever worked in a restaurant, and anyone whos ever tried to make it in America as an immigrant. Some things may have changed since, but so much, still, has not. His story is that classic immigrant story, but also one that’s personal to me and to my family. He is the Gong-Gong, the grandfather, I never got to meet. But in the process of writing about him, and talking to my mom, aunt, and uncle about him and about his restaurants, I feel like I do, at least a little bit. And I hope others might be able to relate—that maybe you’ll see parts of your own grandparents, great grandparents, mothers, and fathers in his story, too. - @deannating on Instagram
