Things I have told myself today: • Why are you so fat • You’re failing • My face is ugly • It’s pointless ...and it’s not even 10am yet. ❤️ These are all totally subconscious thoughts that I caught myself having. I wasn’t being deliberately mean to myself. It was autopilot. And as soon as I became conscious of it, I felt so bad - and upset with the d*ck (🙋🏼♀️) who’s being so horrible to me. Let’s face it; we would never in a million years allow anyone to talk that kind of shit about our friends. So why do we do it to ourselves? It’s scary that it happens so seamlessly in our subconscious because it means we can internalise these beliefs without even realising what’s happening. Now I don’t know why I’m being particularly hard on myself at the moment, but I do know that I want to be a better friend to myself - someone who sticks up for me! And this is what I am now consciously telling myself: • You’ve had a rough time lately. You’ve been ill, stressed, and trying to restabilise your routine. No one expects you to maintain a freaking six pack all year round. You look f*cking great and your body is there for you. F*ck yeah. • You’re the most resilient person I know. You never give up, never stop, even when you don’t believe. You’re so inspiring, go you. • My face is showing signs of stress at the moment. Thank you universe for giving me a physical manifestation so I am reminded to take care of myself! • There is so much power within me. My life may not look the way I’d like it to right now but I can change it! I don’t have to accept the way things are. Thank f*ck for that - let’s go do something awesome instead! ❤️ I think you get the point. If you have had the same kind of thoughts know that you’re not alone, and here is your reminder to take those thoughts and flip them on their head. Do it consciously and do it now. Initial Jobless Claims There were 860k individuals who filed for unemployment benefits for the first time last week, which is still a staggering number. Those continuing to receive benefits after their initial claim was at 12.6M. In addition to the regular unemployment benefit claims, there are 14.5M receiving Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Claims. The total number of individuals receiving some time of unemployment benefit is at 29M. For perspective, there were only 1.5M receiving benefits this same week last year. First ring made. It’s not pretty, but it’s meaningful. Today was the first really good day in the studio in a very long time. ⠀ I started metalsmithing a little more than 2 years ago. I’ve only taken 2 basic classes and few workshops. The rest of my education will likely be self taught. ⠀ Having high and often unrealistic expectations of myself I’ve managed to paralyze myself a few times while learning. Plus, I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself to build a career around a skill I haven’t mastered yet. I’ve had many obstacles along the way too, but I keep going, slowly and surely, allowing myself to suck at something new. ⠀ Today was the first day I saw a marked improvement and it felt good! I finally feel like I not only have the chance of making metalsmithing a career, I might actually be able to build a solid foundation for myself. I’m truly grateful for everyone who has helped me along the way. ⠀ I’m excited for this next chapter to start unfolding. She then used her funds to get them started as a couple. She birthed 5 children & continued to run their household for 44 yrs. while Frederick traveled & grew popular in abolitionist circles. During this time he gained new friends (mostly white women) who critiqued Anna b/c they felt she was too uneducated to be his wife. He initially chose Anna b/c she reminded him of freedom & home. Sound familiar? Mkayyy. Balancing their money, the house as an Underground Railroad stop, raising their children & dealing w/ his disrespectful ass friends eventually threw Anna into depression. She died from a stroke. Two years later, Frederick remarried a white woman, Helen (a direct descendant of the Mayflower), & she gets way more airtime b/c he defends their love publicly. So on this day I’m here to clearly rant LOL & tell da damn truth. Anna Murray-Douglass was THAT DEAL! She was a bomb Black woman abolitionist who made it all possible. BUT AREN’T WE ALWAYS!
