I recently wrote an article for work about grieving during these unprecedented times, and had a lovely conversation with a social worker about how to navigate the journey of grief. We talked about the different emotions that can come up, how there’s no linear path between them. Because of my lived experience of grief and mental health struggles, sometimes it’s challenging to maintain a balanced tone when writing these types of articles. I want to be honest, while also respecting that everyone’s journeys are different, and may certainly be different than mine. • I do wish someone had warned me about how messy grieving is, and not at all like the “5 stages” that are portrayed in popular culture and was a longstanding convention. I wish I had known that all the emotions we mention in the article, while described individually and in their own right, often collide and coalesce to such an extent you don’t know where the tears end and when the rage begins. It isn’t at all clear cut. • Grief is messy, and it’s hard. • #grief #loss #motherloss - @thethingaboutgrief on Instagram
