Most of my recent knits have been quick one-skein (or less!) projects, so I’ve missed out on that feeling of progress you get when you move on to the next skein/hank. Plus...I have *so much* yarn and I’m trying to be responsible with my purchasing, but sometimes it feels like I’m waging a war against my growing yarn stash and every ball, skein, or hank I use is a mark of some small victory. Knitting, as it has been during the entire pandemic, has been a source of comfort for me in a disorienting and unsettling week---fires rage and smoke continues to hang over the Northwest---and I’m hundreds of miles from the worst of it. - Just finished my Marshland sweater by Tin Can Knits this week. 4 colors of Santa Cruz 100% organic merino by Juniper Moon Farm. It knit up a bit too big so I felted it to size and now I’m never going to take it off.

New Pattern: The Cruise Blanket ✨🌊 Crocheted in a simple stitch with two coordinating colorways of our hand dyed classic bulky from @sewrellayarn 💙 This project was super quick to work up and gives a statement making color pool effect without any fancy techniques 🙌🏻 We just work the right side of the blanket in one color and the wrong side in its coordinating pair! One of our most used recipe methods at #SewrellaYarn is a pour dyed method - the Cruise colorway used here is pour dyed and the crocheted result looks like this! Any of our pour dyed colorways would make a similar effect, especially when worked up in this pattern with a coordinating tonal (I used Lido Deck here). The free pattern comes in 12 sizes from baby lovey to king size - and I even have recommendations for value yarns to substitute if you’re not looking to splurge! I finished the beanie / tuque / winter hat whatever you call it. This one is made with the beautiful Manos del Uruguay yarn Silk blend which is 70% wool and 30% silk in DK weight. Color: Adobe It is incredibly soft and flexible, stretches almost double the width thanks to the ribbing. The pattern is very simple. - 2 x 2 Rib followed by 1 x 1 rib - There is a Vikkel ( lateral) braid in between. - Crown decreases start at around 5.5 inch. 🍎🍏I woke up this morning with an intense to desire to stuff my face with apple pie 🥧. It’s literally all I can think about, and I will not be content until a thick slice sits before me. . The problem is, I don’t bake pies on the reg 😂. I’ve made a few before, but nothing that would compare to the masterpieces my Grassy pulls out of her oven (Grassy is my grandma - she’s 87 and an actual angel on earth). . But today is my day to bake the apple pie of my life! I can feel it! This is my season to become a REAL baker, and these autumn months will be known as the Fall of Pie (potentially in more ways than one if disaster befalls me 😂). . While I’m in the kitchen with all these apples, Dave will be busy working on our built-in bookshelves. We tore out the busted ones that came with the house, and ever since my books have been living in sad dusty piles on the floor of my closets 😭. The Pillars of Uruk pullover is knit in the round from the bottom up, with dropped shoulders and colorwork inspired by a mosaic pattern found on these 5000 year old pillars in the ancient Sumerian city of Uruk (swipe to see them). Back when these columns were new, Uruk was the biggest city in the world, home to over 40k people and some incredible art and architecture. Its also the city ruled by the legendary king Gilgamesh (of Epic of Gilgamesh fame), who built its walls. Why yes, I did want to be an archeologist when I was growing up! Ive been on a sock knitting kick lately. Which if you know me well, you know Ive previously said things such as I hate knitting socks and whats the point. 😅 Listen, people change! I stopped fighting my design/work knitting block thats been going on these past few months and instead embraced it with small meditative projects from other designers patterns, like these lovely socks. Comforting projects that I dont have to think about have been just what I’ve needed. I can sit with my thoughts and process whats going on in our world and at home. I can think about what I need to change in my own life to be a better ally to the Black community, and what I need to work on to help raise an anti-racist daughter. Weve been starting at home with small actionable steps, like monthly donations and diversifying my kiddos library and consciously talking about racism. I know these are small steps, but I also know these are steps we can maintain while we continue listening and learning. Anyways, thats what I have been up to. I hope youve been doing well! ❤️ . I’m currently making one in a couple sizes bigger (for a little more oversized fit) using the same yarn in Succexy, and in a fun new colourway as a contrast accent. I’m currently in the process of looking into a few different things, and will be tossing a poll in my stories soon. #tbt to when my obsession with @lionbrandyarn Jeans started. If you know, you know.😂 It was a hard time for me. I was struggling with health issues and killer imposter syndrome. This was my first commisioned design. I almost didnt meet the deadline because my back went out. I was crocheting and writing while laying flat on my couch. It went to testing and I was in the same position. It wasnt until just before release that I was able to move freely. Listen, I dont reccomend this AT ALL! But I wonder what would have happened if I wasnt forced to slow down. I was struggling with the design, it wasnt working the way I wanted. With so much time to be still and think, it came to me. I have yet to top this design, at least in my mind. It taught me a lesson. Its why you will never see me pump out designs fast. I take my time. Slow down. Be still. It will come to you. My Mood hat is done! Here’s my fancy field walk photo shoot! I love this hat! It is a combination of a DK local BFL yarn that I paired with a Tynn Silk Mohair from Sandnes Garn. It was windy this morning and the wind did not go through the hat because the mohair is filling all of the crevices. Here’s what I did - more like a recipe than a pattern. I used size 4 (3.5mm) on 16” (40cm) circular needles. Cast on 100 stitches and join in the round. I always add a stitch and then knit two together to join them. Knit a rib pattern for 11 inches (knit 1, purl 1) then start decreasing. I started decreasing every 4th stitch by knitting two together. Next round, knit or purl the stitches you see. Next round knit two stitches together every fourth stitch - this is where I kinda just knit two together on a whim. Switch to DPNs when you want to. Continue until you have just 12 stitches left on your needles and pull the yarn through all of them and tighten and knot it good. Save the end to tie on a Pom Pom if you want. I tried to keep the ribbing pattern in tact as I was closing up by knitting duplicate stitches together so it’s more of a recipe than a pattern. Use any mohair color with this yarn - hence why I call it my Mood hat. Both yarns are on my website. This morning I started typing and noticed that a strand of yarn had broken in the bind-off of one of my mitts! 😱 Not bad for 6-year old mitts, and fortuitous actually, because the finger side had always been waaaaay too big. To fix (see bottom mitt): 1️⃣Unravel ribbing, frogging to the row before it started and catching each stitch back on a small size 8” circular for tighter knitting 2️⃣Reduce 15% of stitches into new 1x1 ribbing (decrease after every ~8th stitch) 3️⃣Knit ribbing again until yarn is finished! 🏷Pattern: Wristers by Lisa M. Taking on a new test knit ⤵️ I’m working on two test knits right now, and am particularly excited for the release of this one! This is the Ursina sweater by @jacquelinecieslak, a Sport (& Worsted!) weight version of her very popular Ursa sweater. This is the cropped version knit up in Cat’s Eye on Merino Sport in size one, which fits me with minimal ease. Modeled photos to come!
