After nearly two years, we finally reached a settlement with the City of Kingland and the Family of Tony Green who was shot and killed by Former Officer Zack Pressley. While we can never bring Tony back, the family is able to have some closure. A few weeks ago I asked for a plan from @danielandrewsmp Sadly what we received was a plan for eradication that he refers to as aggressive suppression. Not a balanced plan to reopen our economy while also dealing with the vulnerable. Call it what you want almost every expert has raised serious concerns that your plan is too harsh and unachievable based on global evidence. This week many respected experts and community leaders have expressed their views that the draconian lockdowns and curfews and unattainable targets will do more wide spread damage that the virus it’s self. I feel genuinely that @danielandrewsmp is desperately trying to do what he thinks is best. I and most Victorians want to defeat this Virus and save lives however we can’t have a scorched earth policy driven by one individual that harms more the it protects. I feel Mr Andrews all or nothing plan is driven by his fear of failure after so many disasters such as the quarantine debacle and the lack of contract tracing resources. He has now clearly overreached in order regain the political high ground. Mr Andrews @danielandrewsmp we don’t care that mistakes were made. What we all want is for you to listen to those that want to help. Listen to the experts and community leaders. Your one man show won’t get you to where you so desperately want to be. Your spin and disregard for consultation and the crushing of Victorians democratic rights just make the job of dealing with this crisis that much harder. Days after the U.S. Marshals Service announced the rescue of 39 endangered children in Georgia, similar operations are ongoing in two other states as authorities target missing kids who may be victims of sex trafficking. In Ohio, Operation Safety Net led to the discovery of 25 children ages 13 to 18 in less than three weeks, the Marshals Service said. The operation is likely to continue into October, U.S. Marshal Peter Elliott said. A two-week operation is underway near Indianapolis, Darby Kirby, chief of the Marshals Missing Child Unit, told USA TODAY in an email Tuesday. These operations are part of efforts at the local level to locate missing children rather than a coordinated nationwide sweep, Kirby said. Since 2005, the marshals have helped recover 1,800 missing children. “If they were looking for kids every day, they would find kids every day,” said Suzanne Lewis-Johnson, CEO at RAHAB Ministries in Ohio, who worked as an FBI agent and on a Child Exploitation Task Force running operations similar to the ones conducted by the Marshals Service. Human traffickers target vulnerabilities and recruit missing children or kids who can be lured away from home, Lewis-Johnson said. I’m mad that about 1 in 1,000 black men will be killed in police encounters during their lifetime. I’m mad that my black friends live in a much more dangerous world than I do. We need to change. I’m still mad. I’m mad that it has become difficult to separate the protestors from those taking advantage of the protests to destroy cities. I’m mad that about 1 in 300 police officers will be killed in police encounters during a 20-year career. I’m mad that the actions of a few speak louder than the actions of the many...on all sides. We need to change. I’m still mad. I’m mad that it’s always “us” vs. “them”. I’m mad that families of protestors have to worry about their loved ones making it home safe tonight, whether they are black, white, or any shade of color in between. I’m mad that families of police officers have to worry about the same thing, whether they are black, white, or any shade of color in between. We need to change. Finally, I’m mad that there is not a clear solution. Yes, this is a police problem. Yes, this is a white person problem. It is also a human problem. As humans, we control very little in life. Over 20 buildings have been brought down by excavators in a demolition exercise currently ongoing at the Iriebe Housing Estate, leaving several families homeless and helpless. One is greeted with the rumbles of what once stood as homes for some low income earners who lived in the flats with their families within the buildings erected by the Dr. Peter Odili administration. Some of the occupants told City News on Wednesday morning that they were not certain about the authority behind the demolition exercise. They also claimed they were not informed about the exercise and have also received no recent notice from the Rivers State Government about it. They said the exercise was being executed at a time many were trying to find their find their feet again after the economic worship of the COVID 19 pandemic. One of the occupants, Izu said: We woke on Tuesday morning to see two excavators with government security. They started breaking peoples houses claiming that government has taken over. Before the end of Tuesday, about 12 houses were demolished including mine. This thing is very heartbreaking. Pastor Godwin, Another occupant told City News that inhabitants of the estate are not just pained about the emergency manner those behind the demolition exercise are going about it, but they have invested in roofing and rehabilitating many of the structures especially some which were uncompleted, to make them habitable. He said the exercise has taken him unawares and he does not know where to turn to for help. He appealed to the state government to come to their aid. Our correspondent reports that the demolition exercise continued on Wednesday morning with the heavy presence of security operatives while occupants made last minute efforts to move their properties from the buildings. The Rivers State Commissioner of Information, Hon. Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody was indicted Monday on charges of tampering evidence in the case of Javier Ambler, a 40-year-old Black man who died in custody last year. The indictment accuses @sheriffchody of destroying footage that showed deputies chasing and using force against the Pflugerville resident that was captured for the reality TV show Live PD in March 2019. Jason Nassour, former general counsel with the county attorneys office, faces the same charge. Chody was booked and released after posting a $10,000 bond. His indictment was first reported by the @statesman. Deputies J.J. Johnson and Zach Camden chased Ambler for 22 minutes for allegedly failing to dim his headlights to oncoming traffic. When they caught Ambler, they used tasers on him four times, though he protested that he had a heart condition and could not breathe. He died shortly after. The deputies are under investigation. The Front Porch had just celebrated its 14th anniversary when the shutdown hit. It tried takeout for a while, but that was difficult and demand was unpredictable. The next move was relocating the restaurant into 29th Street, but the first effort was not only plain but homely — an orange construction barrier flanking tables and chairs. With the help of neighborhood architects and designers, that evolved into an elegant street restaurant: booths enclosed by a bright wall to suggest a New Orleans scene. Atop the wall are three down-home rocking chairs, three orange parasols and a wooden chicken in full crow. “We are known for our fried chicken,” said Josey White, one of the partners. Still, converting from a conventional restaurant to one out in the street is not easy. The new operation is half the size of the old, and the booths have to be taken down and stored every night. The University of Abuja on Friday announced the indefinite suspension of 24 students of the institution arrested during cult initiation in Gwako village along Gwagwalada Road in the Federal Capital Territory. The students, including seven final year students, were arrested by the police on March 15 after the villagers raised the alarm of a crowd of cultists hiding in a bush. The suspected cultists arrested with the effort of the community vigilantes had subsequently been taken into police custody. According to an eyewitness, a total of 46 persons suspected to be students were arrested but about 24 are from the University of Abuja. It was not clear yet where the other suspects school. They were stripped and beaten by the villagers before they were moved away by the police in two vans. The university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, on Friday approved the indefinite suspension of the 24 students of the university. In a release by UNIABUJA’s Head of Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob, the university said suspicious activities must be promptly reported to the police and other authorities. Yakoob said, “The vice-chancellor has approved the indefinite suspension of 24 students of the university for alleged involvement in cultism. This is the first batch of the arrested students to be suspended by the university management. “Out of the 24 suspended students, who cut across various faculties including Science, Arts and Social Science, seven were in 400 level; 10 in 300 level; six in 200 level and one spill-over student. “The affected students have been directed by the university authorities to hand over all the (school’s) property in their possession and vacate the hostels immediately. NEWS: She stole the money from the families of the triple homicide I posted about in July. A Florida woman is accused of going on a shopping spree with the ill-gotten gains from a GoFundMe page she set up to supposedly benefit the families of victims of a July triple homicide. Amanda Brown, 32, was arrested and charged on Sept. 20 for swindling nearly $12,000 from the donation page that said the money would help out relatives of three buddies killed on a July 17 fishing trip in Frostproof, Fla. “We have her all over the county spending money. She’s at a Walmart, she’s at various ATM machines. She even went and paid a $1,300 water bill in Frostproof,” Polk County Sheriff’s Office Chief Steve Lester told the outlet. Brown, who cops say admitted to the crime, was caught after families of the victims contacted police when they noticed the unfamiliar donation page. Police arrested Brown on charges of fraud, grand theft and using the identities of a deceased person after she was busted for separate meth charges, the report said. With the rise in autism rates, there will be many more of these incidents if police aren’t specifically trained for these situations. I’m sure a lot of officers would handle this well, but this officer really failed his community. Linden Cameron was having a meltdown and left his house. Thanks @livestrong for sharing my story and my message to the world. Our reality is what we unconsciously make it unless we become aware of our mental and emotional make up or our conditioning/programming that manifested into who we are and how we behave. Past and current experiences, people in our lives, social media, “bad luck”, things out of our control, our parents, economic upbringing, etc. can become a scapegoat for unrelated emotional baggage and we see this more and more today as people avoid accepting themselves as the cause of the reality they’re experiencing today and blame things and people for what they experience in life. The biggest shift in my life that I believed saved my life, gave my purpose, and allowed me to live my dreams and vision I held of my ideal life in my mind was taking accountability for my reality and not being at effect to my environment or experiences. Rather, I took charge and owned who I was, what I was experiencing in my life, and where I wanted to go. It began with a conscious perspective of what I DID NOT want in my life. Once that was clear, I put all my focus and energy into what I DID WANT in my life while also setting an intention to catch myself anytime I strayed towards what I didn’t want. This is important because where we put our focus in terms of the thoughts we hold in our mind signals a very specific loop of chemical reactions that influence how we behave, even if we don’t want to. Our thoughts drive specific emotions that we “feel” and signal the brain that the body “feels” the way it’s thinking. In return, the body acts accordingly to this process to create an experience based upon the way we think and feel. This then begins the cycle of thinking and feeling, which influences the way we behave and results in our personal REALITY. Over time, like software in a computer, we get programmed to this thinking and feeling loop and we solidify our identity based upon how we relate to our environment and time. Unless we make this loop visible to our consciousness, it can take us for an unwanted ride. The time I was 21 and diagnosed with a brain tumor is when I decided to audit who I was.
