Ezek az ismétlődő gesztusok tagolhatják, keretezhetik az időt, adhatnak szusszanást, rövid kiszakadást a kötelező teendőkből; teremthetnek alkalmat akár az elvonulásra, akár egy kis társaséletre. A dohány ‒ és az élvezetét elősegítő pipa ‒ Amerikából érkezett Európába, s a 16. század végén vált egyre közkedveltebbé. Isztambulban is megjelent a 16. század végén, és a 17. század második felére már az oszmán elit kedvelt élvezeti cikkének számított. Míg Nyugat-Európában inkább a rövid szárú változatok terjedtek el, a törökök – az indiánokhoz hasonlóan ‒ a kis, cserépből formázott pipafejekbe hosszú, akár 1‒1,5 méteres szárat illesztettek, alighanem a füst lehűtése végett. Magyarországon a kávézással együtt ezt is az oszmánok terjesztették el, erre utal a dohány (törökül: duhan ’füst, dohány’) és a viszonylag későn megjelenő csibuk (törökül: çubuk ’vessző, pipaszár’) szavunk. A hagyományos magyar pipák is török formára készültek. A török pipafejeket nagy formai változatosság jellemzi, és sokféle módon díszítették őket. A legdíszesebbek mázasak, ezek között találunk feliratosakat is: többnyire a liká’u l-mahbúbi l-kulúba (a szeretett lény találkozása a szívekkel) szöveg olvasható rajtuk, ennek töredékei szerepelnek az Erdélyi bástyában talált példányon is. Sokkal több a mázatlan darab, amelyeket apró bepecsételt motívumokkal díszítettek, ezek többnyire világosabb anyagúak. A leletek többségét az egyszerű, díszítetlen, vörösre égett darabok adják. A pipák formája keveset változott a 18. század folyamán, a törökös forma élt tovább. A készítés technikája azonban átalakult: innentől kezdve inkább formába nyomva készítették, és bemélyedő virág- és levélmotívumok díszítették őket. LA SPADA NELLA ROCCIA TOSCANA: Nelle vicinanze di Siena, esattamente a Chiusdino, si trova un luogo magico perso nel tempo: l’Abbazia di San Galgano. Galgano Guidotti nacque nel 1148 a Chiusdino da una famiglia di nobili locali. Qui, visse la sua gioventù non curante della religione e dedito al divertimento. Tutto cambiò quando venne colto all’improvviso da due visioni dell’Arcangelo Michele, il quale lo guidò fino a Montesiepi. Qui, si trovò dinnanzi ai dodici apostoli che lo accolsero e, dopo aver aperto un libro sacro, gli comparve Cristo crocefisso. Nonostante tutto, ritornò alla sua vita di tutti i giorni. Successivamente, durante una passeggiata tranquilla, il suo cavallo si rifiutò di proseguire per ben due volte, così, dopo una preghiera, Michele gli apparve nuovamente e lo ricondusse a Montesiepi, nel punto esatto della prima visione. Galgano decise di creare una croce per venerare Dio, ma, non riuscendo a tagliare la legna per costruirla, gettò la spada per terra che, spontaneamente, si conficcò fino all’elsa in una roccia. Da quel giorno quel luogo divenne la sua casa da eremita. Quando un giorno si assentò per un pellegrinaggio verso Roma, tre ladri ne approfittarono per rubare la spada: non riuscendo nell’impresa di sfilarla, la ruppero e la abbandonarono in terra, ma subito dopo furono colpiti dall’ira divina. Al suo ritorno, addolorato dalla rottura della spada, una voce gli disse di riunire i pezzi: la spada, così, si ricompose miracolosamente. Galgano morì nel 1181 e, dopo quattro anni, venne santificato. Everyday I have been watching the price of silver go up. Today it’s almost $29 an ounce. We have not seen it like this for 7 years. The silver I buy is $37 an ounce as of this writing. With a massive pit in my stomach, inevitably I am going to have to raise prices to accommodate. Copper and brass might be the new silver for the time being. I have actually been testing some stainless steel and I may be able to introduce it for bracelets - but I do need to acquire a new tool. So-called frying pans from different collections in Europe early cycladic I-II 2800-2300 BC This type of clay vases, particularly common in the Cyclades and the Greek mainland in the Early Bronze Age, owes its conventional name to its characteristic shape and not to its use, which is kind of an enigma. Frying pans have low vertical or slightly flaring walls and a forked or quadrilateral handle, while the surface of the base usually bears incised or impressed decoration. The illustrated examples are decorated with concentric circles and irregular triangles, other space being filled with dots and incised lines. The motif may represent the sun or a star. Other common motifs include single or running spirals, sometimes with incised boats in between. Vases of this type are mainly found in graves but as they also occur in settlements it is clear that they were used in daily life, too.
