Theres a few yoga poses that I always run to when I need to feel strong and work on my strength. Keys to the posture: 🔑Stack your shoulder above your wrist 🔑Lift your hips up 🔑Engage your toes, grip your mat 🔑Keep your hands shoulder distance apart 🔑Lock in your core by drawing your lower pelvis toward your spine Imagine a ruler is sitting from your crown to your heel to keep your body in alignment. I play around with my gaze often but I find that when I look slightly ahead and fix my focus on one thing, its almost like Im moving into the future. It can be difficult when you are trained as a medical doctor & you are a healer. You believe in the woo... well most of it. You see spirit. You feel & work with energies. You are a Edgewalker, who can travel to other realms. You believe in science & honour the life saving benefits of Medicine. It’s difficult to find your fit when you believe in the medical system, yet see clearly the trauma it can produce. When the Medical world inherently is oppressive & colonised, and your kind of medicine or the way that you interact with Spirit doesn’t fit. Prior to colonisation healers were honoured. Traditional healing techniques, healing songs and bush medicines were the only form of primary health care. For Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders the impact of colonisation & the forced removal & disconnection of people from their land and customs, had a major impact on our capacity to heal our way. They tried to wash away our healing knowledge with our blood and tears. Yet not matter how disconnected we are perceived to be from our culture, the echo remains in our bones. So from this Healer a Doctor emerged, carrying her legacy forward by honouring & acknowledging shamanic and traditional healers from my Torres Strait Islander, my Celtic and Viking lineages and the Indigenous knowledge my ancestors held. It draws me back to the question, how does someone like me fit in? When you know the way you can help heal people, or how you hold the birth and death portals is profound. When your hands get hot, & those old men who were your teachers sit with you in the red desert sand & traced energy lines in your body. When you see & work with Dragons, sometimes preferring that realm to this one How do I fit in? Well I don’t really. I am a Doctor and a healer. It’s no longer a either/or, it’s a both. If there are more of us, we won’t need to fit. We won’t be fringe dwellers anymore. We will alight in a system that is crumbling & be the beacon of change. The alpha and omega. The Serpent Dragon who reaches out to catch its tail with its mouth. The devouring & the rebirth The shedding. The cycling. Life, death, birth, rebirth. In the light of the black lives protest around the world, I have tried to understand why America cannot coexist with Black people. Blacks are very resourceful and contribute to economic growth wherever they find themselves. I have also tried to understand why racism is the only thing that has refused change. In the 60s Dr Martin Luther king and a host of others tried to address this issue during the civil rights movement. Times have changed America, I thought you knew. From Amadou Diallo to Trevor Martin, NOW George Floyd. Over and over again the same thing keeps repeating itself and you tell us to move on, you tell us that let all that is lost be forgotten. No, enough is enough. For days, I have been thinking of a way to respond to this issue of racism, then I found inspiration in Micheal Jacksons Black or white video. Micheal address this issue by featuring every race in the world, delivering a message of hope that no matter who you are, you can be my friend, my brother, my sister, my lover. JUJU WARRIOR Roots. Preservation. Commemoration. Making Juju Warrior the first character for this project was intentional. Today is Emancipation Day. Trinidad & Tobago was the first country in the world to commemorate the abolition of slavery by making it a national holiday. Even post independence, commemorating those before us was a priority. Commemoration is a celebration. One that is meant to preserve the memory of something and keep us deeply rooted in the truth of what we are celebrating and why. The Juju warrior character is just that - a commemoration. The character was created to celebrate the African ancestors before us that were stolen and sent to Trinidad and Tobago to be enslaved. Enslaved on stolen land, colonizers saw everything about us to be demonic, perverted and uncivilized. They wanted to be sure that anything they did not like, or see as valuable to their mission, was gone. We did not allow that. The Juju warrior, reflecting African warriors and chiefs,is one of the first carnival characters. The character is known to have white tribal markings on their body and face, headpieces, large necklaces and grass skirts. In the beginning, participants would use whatever they could to create these characters. Caucus bags were cut and dyed to create the shirts and necklaces. Today is about commemoration. My name is Zoe a.k.a @aqvadiva. I am a dancer and pole dancer, instructor and model. I am fascinated by the human body and the shapes it can create. I love to play with my femininity and sensuality. It makes me feel sexy and empowered. I joined instagram about 4 years ago, to share my art with the world and show potential clients what I was all about. My content is primarily videos of me dancing or pictures from photo shoots. Most of the photographers I work with, specialize in nude or dance photography. I believe, the body is a beautiful work of art that does not need to be covered up. Besides the fact that I feel very comfortable being naked, wearing a lot of clothes doesnt let you showcase the shapes and lines, you are creating. I never paid too much attention to the discussion around shadow banning until I noticed a drastic drop in my views, about 6 months ago. In addition, some of my followers notified me, they were not seeing my posts in their feeds or had unfollowed me against their will. I started reading up on the issue and how to find out whether or not I was shadow banned. Turns out, I was. Being shadow banned can have a serious impact on my income. I get at least 50% of my work through social media. When Jordan Kensley posted about the gender difference, I tried changing my gender to male. My following grew by around 200 people in one week! Unfortunately, my freedom was short lived. It took them about 10 days to put me back into instagram jail. It baffles me, how instagram will let teenagers and even pre-teens use the platform, even though it is clearly against their guidelines but is so strict with some of our content. This secret censorship is infuriating and dangerous, because most people are not aware, it is happening. Made another trip around the sun! It’s sure feels weird to celebrate amidst a pandemic, and not be able to gather all your family and friends. But I decided to not get down on myself and left the city. We camped on a beautiful ranch in Cleveland National Forest where Kumeyaay natives once lived. The hosts were so wonderful. At arrival they called on a Steller’s Jay who flew right down to catch a treat. We toured the land, fed the horses and saw all other animals, a deer pictograph, bedrock mortars, and a 4 hr hike that lead us to 3 different waterfalls. At times we were waist deep in water with our belongings over our heads getting through the forest while wide aware of poison oak and snakes. The sky was full of stars at night and I thanked them all for my health and my life, set intention for the new year and meditated on them.
