Last Thursday, 25 June, we witnessed the action #stillstanding. It was initiated by @stateofthearts_ as a public statement by the cultural workers of all professions who find themselves in precarious financial and living conditions. The lockdown time revealed a lot of uncertainty, schemes of dependency and urgent need for more solidarity in the cultural field. . At Needcompany, during the weeks of confinement, we were wondering how to take a stance and how to be truly active in providing work to our friends, colleagues, collaborators, who as freelancers can’t work and pursue their plans because of corona repercussions. . That’s why a few weeks ago, we spontaneously decided to build up THE HOUSE OF OUR FATHERS / MOTHERS OF INVENTIONS – a durational performative installation designed for 20 performers, actors and musicians. It is our public statement that collectivity is an irreplaceable value, which should be cherished, regardless of the circumstances. . Needcompany’s next step in supporting the artistic community is a fellowship programme: MILL’S REALITY SALON. Its launch is planned for September 2020. . Besides the fact that I feel very comfortable being naked, wearing a lot of clothes doesnt let you showcase the shapes and lines, you are creating.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I never paid too much attention to the discussion around shadow banning until I noticed a drastic drop in my views, about 6 months ago. In addition, some of my followers notified me, they were not seeing my posts in their feeds or had unfollowed me against their will. I started reading up on the issue and how to find out whether or not I was shadow banned. Turns out, I was.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ Being shadow banned can have a serious impact on my income. I get at least 50% of my work through social media. When Jordan Kensley posted about the gender difference, I tried changing my gender to male. My following grew by around 200 people in one week! Unfortunately, my freedom was short lived. It took them about 10 days to put me back into instagram jail.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ It baffles me, how instagram will let teenagers and even pre-teens use the platform, even though it is clearly against their guidelines but is so strict with some of our content. This secret censorship is infuriating and dangerous, because most people are not aware, it is happening. It can be difficult when you are trained as a medical doctor & you are a healer. You believe in the woo... well most of it. You see spirit. You feel & work with energies. You are a Edgewalker, who can travel to other realms. You believe in science & honour the life saving benefits of Medicine. It’s difficult to find your fit when you believe in the medical system, yet see clearly the trauma it can produce. When the Medical world inherently is oppressive & colonised, and your kind of medicine or the way that you interact with Spirit doesn’t fit. Prior to colonisation healers were honoured. Traditional healing techniques, healing songs and bush medicines were the only form of primary health care. For Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders the impact of colonisation & the forced removal & disconnection of people from their land and customs, had a major impact on our capacity to heal our way. They tried to wash away our healing knowledge with our blood and tears. Yet not matter how disconnected we are perceived to be from our culture, the echo remains in our bones. So from this Healer a Doctor emerged, carrying her legacy forward by honouring & acknowledging shamanic and traditional healers from my Torres Strait Islander, my Celtic and Viking lineages and the Indigenous knowledge my ancestors held. It draws me back to the question, how does someone like me fit in? When you know the way you can help heal people, or how you hold the birth and death portals is profound. When your hands get hot, & those old men who were your teachers sit with you in the red desert sand & traced energy lines in your body. When you see & work with Dragons, sometimes preferring that realm to this one How do I fit in? Well I don’t really. I am a Doctor and a healer. It’s no longer a either/or, it’s a both. If there are more of us, we won’t need to fit. We won’t be fringe dwellers anymore. We will alight in a system that is crumbling & be the beacon of change. The alpha and omega. The Serpent Dragon who reaches out to catch its tail with its mouth. The devouring & the rebirth The shedding. The cycling. Life, death, birth, rebirth.
