[MESNILMAUTEMPS] Et si on enrichissait notre collection d’affiches sur le meilleur arrondissement de Paris ? Passionné par les illustrations anciennes, le Londonien @PaulThurlby en a réalisé une dizaine, mettant en scène un Paris très rétro. Comptez 59 € pour celle sur Ménilmontant vendue en ce moment (comme bien d’autres) sur le site @sergeantpaper. On y voit un couple d’amoureux, place Fréhel, devant la fresque “du détective”, peinte par Jean Le Gac... qui se trouve en réalité à BELLEVILLE !!! #dommage On profite de cette occasion pour revenir sur le nom du quartier Ménilmontant, qui était jusqu’en 1860 une commune indépendante de Paris (on y venait pour ses guinguettes et son vin pas cher !). Le préfixe “Mesnil-” est un dérivé du latin “mansio”, qui désignait un gîte-relais situé le long d’une voie romaine. Tandis que le suffixe d’origine “-mautemps” venait d’une maison sur place surnommée “ la villa du mauvais temps”. C’est au 16ème siècle qu’il fut changer en “-montant” à cause de sa géographie à flanc de coteaux.
