It happened to me too. . . When I recovered from B.E.D I lost three friendships that were important to me at that time. . . While they didn’t explicitly tell me that they didn’t support my recovery, their actions made it quite clear. . . They were not in support of my adopting healthier behaviours around food. . . They were not supportive of the fact that I was able to pursue new opportunities as a result of recovery, one of which included dating after not being able to do so for quite some time, which I now understand may have been largely in part due to my eating disorder. . . They were not supportive of the goals I had towards a better life for myself. . . I’ve probably made these three girls sound totally evil. I wouldn’t say that they are. But I WOULD definitely say that I played a role in this group that recovery would cause me to no longer fulfil. . . That role was the girl who was always free on a Saturday night because she was dateless. The girl who didn’t have much fashion sense because she wore baggy clothing to hide herself. The girl who was always down to eat in large quantities with you ( and eating large meals is great and can be fun but in my case it was part of ongoing binges), but was actually losing herself in the food and not managing her real emotions. . . So I made the choice years ago to walk away. . . At first, it was hard. Really hard. I questioned my decision constantly even though others affirmed I was right. But when I look at my life years later recovered I know I’m so much happier. I have friends that truly care about me and know how much I care about them. I’m able to exercise for joy and health and not to shrink. I am able to enjoy meals with others where I feel present and not using food to numb. . . I’m telling you this so you know that if you need to or needed to walk away from certain people to maintain your recovery, that this is not only okay, but normal. . . Let’s talk why we say Dismantle instead of reform the police descend from groups made to enforce the genocide of native people, who became groups to catch runaway enslaved people, to post-slavery forces to capture freed Black people for misdemeanors & put them in prison to protect white wealth, to the prison industrial complex & the school to prison pipeline, to countless atrocities & warfare on Black communities ... all ensuring slave labor became prison labor & white wealth was protected. the police have never been made to protect and serve. we cannot “reform” the police. efforts all across american history have been made to reform the police and it has not worked. Since the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement & Trayvon Martin’s murder, all that has come of “reform” is more funding going to police departments. Money that barely goes to ‘reform’ and goes to militarization against us, the people they supposedly ‘protect & serve’ , and this corrupt organization pockets. 50% of my city’s budget goes to the cops, with similar numbers across the country. You cannot reform an organization built solely to protect the upper class wealth, white wealth, the 1%’s wealth - not Black folks, not other marginalized folks, not to protect and serve the general people’s interests. The cops need to go. Of course they can’t overnight, but that’s why we are in this for the long term. ‘Defund. Disarm. Dismantle’ are steps. We must slowly drain funding for the police, put it into good community safety (healthcare, mental healthcare, rape/domestic abuse crisis centers, childcare, education, etc), and build up new community safety teams so we can keep our own neighborhoods safe. One in four women are now considering leaving the workforce or downshifting their careers because of Covid-19. That’s the startling headline from this year’s #WomenInTheWorkplace report, which @leaninorg and @mckinseyco are releasing today. It reveals that companies are at risk of losing up to 2 million women—wiping out all the gains women have made in management since the survey began six years ago. If we had a panic button, we’d be hitting it. Why are so many women on the brink of making major changes to their professional lives? Because Covid-19 has put huge burdens on their shoulders. Many are burned out, exhausted, and seriously asking whether they can keep going. Working moms were already working a double shift of work and caregiving before the pandemic. Now their childcare and housework responsibilities have skyrocketed. Mothers are more likely than fathers to be spending an extra 20 hours a week on housework and childcare. That’s half a full-time job. Senior-level women are dealing with increased pressure at home and work; women are typically held to higher performance standards and blamed more for failure, so when the stakes are high, like they are now, women leaders are more likely than men to be judged harshly. Working from home has blurred the lines between work and home, making many employees feel “always on,” like they must be available to work 24/7. And on top of all that, Black women are also carrying the emotional toll of the disproportionate impact of the pandemic on the Black community and incidents of racist violence across the country. Companies must act fast to reduce burnout, make work more sustainable, and avoid a crisis that could set women and workplaces back years. This is also an opportunity. Making work sustainable, supportive, and inclusive isn’t just a way to help employees get through this crisis. It’s the foundation for a better workplace after Covid-19 is over. ⚡️TEN YEARS!⚡️We’ve been making It’s Ok banners for 10 whole years!! How did that happen?! I’ve been looking through photos and finding old blog posts and I have so much to say but I’m just so grateful to be able to do this work. Last summer I briefly announced retiring some of our classic designs and then.... I didn’t. Because I was super consumed with our new storefront (@grapefruitnoho) and thought maybe it would lead to Secret Holiday fizzling out as we switched focus, but it never really felt right to let it all go. Now, with our retail shop closed for the foreseeable future, I’m am so glad I went with my gut and never stopped making banners. It’s felt so good to really dig back in and pull power from these affirmations I wrote down so many years ago. I feel ready to re-energize this little biz! please take five minutes today to read my highlight “helping SW’s” and fill in the scottish government’s consultation form to reject their plans to introduce the nordic model. *you do not have to be scottish to do this*. you guys are so so good for sharing my posts when it comes to sex work; this time i need your help with action. this move is an insidious policy which does not seek to help sex workers - it will drive the industry underground, decrease the ability to screen & implement safety measures, & endanger thousands. the stigma surrounding sex workers already is abysmal and this will make it worse. rather than focusing on reducing trafficking and providing genuine aid - such as housing, addiction support, mental health services & more readily available healthcare, they just want to “wipe out” sex work entirely. this however, will never happen - and so what is already a precarious industry with the most basic safety nets will vanish and become a very scary thing. sex workers deserve our respect. sex work is work ♥️ - @kardatoons on Instagram

Super stressed about this, definitely the most vulnerable I’ve felt since coming out. I really, really hope these raise awareness and empathy and not make us more visible and vulnerable to attack and ridicule. Train to build the body you can be proud of not only what everyone else will admire. Eat for your goals|life| health, and not what somebody thinks you should be eating.
