I’ve been largely silent on this platform for a while now, largely because Facebook has sucked me in a lot more lately. What a fucking world we’re living in. There’s so much to take in, so much to talk about. I don’t want my voice to take up too much space, but I also don’t want to be quiet. I don’t want to care about what my Instagram page looks like or does, but I also want to use whatever bit of privilege I’ve got to amplify BIPOC voices. Whether you’re taking to the streets or donating money to the countless orgs that need our help (@dontshootpdx , @criticalresistancepdx , @carenotcopspdx , and your local bail fund all spring to mind) , now is a time for action. There can be no more white silence or complicity with these systems that inflict violence upon POC every damn day, and that means being willing to give it all up for the cause. My entire communities, both as a rock musician and as a queer trans woman, have been built by the queer Black folks who created rock’n’roll and threw the first bricks at cops. I owe it all to them. It’s time to fight for them all day, every damn day. Read some anti-racist literature, unlearn some harmful colonialist bs, get radicalized, hit the streets.
