Adult rhinos have no predators aside from humans. They are not heading towards extinction due to the actions of any other species except us. WE are the cause of THEIR decline and so it is OUR responsibility to ensure that the rhino species across the world do not go extinct. Look at your fingernails. Rhino horn is made of the exact same material as your nails - Keratin. Yet rhinos are being killed at devastating rates so humans can use their horn as a status symbol and to ‘treat’ illnesses. This is WRONG. Rhino conservation has made huge steps forward and we have the incredible humans on the ground risking their lives every day to thank for this. Especially today. The Moose Jaw Fire Department rescued a fawn this weekend. • The fawn got stuck in a crack in a hill at the end of Skipton Road in the Wakamow Valley area. • The mama deer was at the scene as well, keeping her distance but staying vigilant. Im so very proud to get to announce were finally part of the Fujifilm family! Today @fujifilmx_us announced their new Creators program, which has such an amazing and diverse group of photographers. You can see us all in the link in my bio, and here: https://fujifilm-x.com/en-us/home-creators/ If Ive gotten to hang out with you in the last nine years or so, you probably saw me with one Fujifilm camera or another. It started with the x100, and moved to the Xpro1, and from there Ive had so many different Fujifilm cameras I cant remember them all. But they were never our main cameras for weddings. We had Canon for 10 years, and then Nikon for another several years. We just didnt feel like any mirrorless camera could do what we needed them to do with how hard and how fast we shoot at a wedding. But when the Xpro3 came out last year, I finally was able to say goodbye to dSLRS for good. But @erinchrisman wasnt there yet, so we kept our Nikons. But with the new XT4, @erinchrisman found a camera that she loves. Ive never seen her take so many photos...at weddings, and just around the house of Roxy. That makes me so happy to see. If anyone has questions about Fujifilm cameras, or just cameras in general, please let me know in the comments below. 2020, no matter how weird or devastating it has been for all of us photographers, at least has given us a chance to rethink what really matters in our work and what we want to spend the rest of our lives photographing. Its going to get better, and were going to have a renewed enthusiasm to show what we care about with our photos. The aftermath. The beaches along the south coast have been smashed by storms in the past few months and now, as the warmer spring weather arrives, beach goers are getting creative. The paper is published today in Zootaxa Cnemaspis stellapulvis sp. nov. is a member of the C. mysoriensis clade and can be easily distinguished visually from all other members by having a single medial dark ocellus just anterior to forelimb insertions, besides other few taxonomic characters and genetic divergence. Etymology. The specific epithet is an adjective formed by the combination of the Latin words stella and pulvis meaning stardust, an allusion to the prominent grey spots on the dorsum of the new species. @marataba_ and Marakele National Park are home to critically important, medium-sized population of white and black rhino, which, similarly to all other rhino populations on the continent, is under pressure from several threats. The most serious threat is the current onslaught of poaching for their horn. This has escalated since 2008 to the point where more than a thousand white rhino have been poached annually in South Africa alone, forcing the rhino population into a serious decline. Guests joining Wild Eye on one of the @maratabaconservationcamps safari experiences (watch this space) will contribute directly to ongoing management interventions to identify every single rhino in the park. Animals are individually located and immobilized before having ear notches cut into the ears for easy identification, microchips inserted into the horns and body, and DNA samples taken and submitted to the Rhinoceros DNA indexing system (RHoDIS) database. Whilst the plight of these large and charismatic species is certainly worth recognizing on this day, let us not forget the larger suite of wildlife species that are significantly impacted by illegal bushmeat hunting, body part trade, human wildlife conflict as well as habitat loss and fragmentation. Somewhere in South Africa 🇿🇦🦏🌍 Im Mai 2019 waren wir für zweieinhalb Wochen in Südafrika mit dem Auto unterwegs. While trekking to Survival Beach I climbed a rock to take a photo of the next beach, Peña Martinica Beach, when I came upon this Iguana who just stood still and posed for my photo. Not sure who was more shocked the iguana 🦎 or me! 😂😂 I quickly climbed down the rock and continued my walk to Martinica Beach.. Axolotl. Axolotl?? AXOLOTL!! These neotenic salamanders are classified as Critically Endangered in the wild. They were discovered in the canals outside of Mexico City, and pollution is driving them to extinction, BUT somewhere in the mountains of Montana, there are lakes that never dry up and that have no fish in them, so these salamanders never have to grow up. From Wikipedia Axolotls are unusual among amphibians in that they reach adulthood without undergoing metamorphosis. Instead of developing lungs and taking to the land, adults remain aquatic and gilled. They are also perhaps the most-studied amphibian because they have incredible regenerative abilities. They can re-grow arms, legs, tails, eyes, and organs, including parts of their brains! The same lake youve seen in a few recent shots from is where I found these guys. I paddled out with my surfboard, goggles, and GoPro, and I saw dozens of these amazing creatures. If you want to learn more about these little wonders I highly recommend you look up the article in Scientific American called Biologys Beloved Amphibian--the Axolotl--Is Racing toward Extinction. I feel so lucky to have had a chance to swim with them. The authors investigated the femoral pore secretions of two species of iguanas: the Pink Land-Iguana (Conolophus marthae) and the Galápagos Land-Iguana (Conolophus subcristatus). Their data suggests that the differences in the chemical secretions among the two species may help prevent hybridization between them. La salamandrina di Savi si distingue chiaramente dalla salamandra pezzata, per le sue dimensioni minori e per la mancanza delle macchie di colore giallo o arancione sul fondo nero dorsale. Si tratta di una specie di urodelo a vita prevalentemente terrestre, infatti entrano in acqua solo per la deposizione delle uova. Vive soprattutto in boschi temperati e abbastanza umidi, attraversati da ruscelli con scarsa corrente e presenza sul fondo di sassi, foglie e rami. Di rado è presente anche in ambienti secondari prossimi ai boschi, ma sempre vicino a ruscelli o abbeveratoi. Quando è fuori dallacqua è molto difficile vederla! Vive tra le foglie e la colorazione del dorsale ne rende molto complicato lavvistamento. La salamandrina di Savi è un endemismo appenninico diffuso dalla Liguria centrale fino al Molise e alla porzione settentrionale della Campania. A sud del fiume Volturno, fino alla Calabria, ma non nel versante adriatico, è distribuita invece la Salamandrina terdigitata (Lacépède, 1788), specie strettamente affine, riconoscibile solo in base a caratteri molecolari. Nellultimo monitoraggio erpetologico, svolto con lUniversità degli studi di Roma Tre, la salamandrina di Savi è stata segnalata in 17 stazioni. WOW what a week of amazing adventures around the Islands of Indonesia on board the Rascal boat. 1st stop was Komodo Island to check out these scary Dragons & learn more about there habitat, Then we cruised thru the night to be up at sunrise & swim with the amazing & huge Whale Sharks. i was lucky enough to get wacked around the side of the head by this big boys tail ( man they have some serious power. ) Then that afternoon we went diving with the white pointer sharks & today the magical tour goes on, while we frolic in the crystal clear water on a deserted Island & enjoy the most amazing seafood spread ...
