‘ruins ix’ BOOK NOW @veloroselondon in partnership with The Whitechapel Gallery to see @fubunation_ perform ‘Ruins’ in @charterhouselondon at 1530, 1800 & 1900 TOMORROW. Following on from a community arts project @lancaster.amelia @brentcouncil on The South Kilburn Estate @rhys_denn @waddah_sinada @steph___be invited me to collaborate with them on the Ruins photography exhibition. This was first exhibited @roundhouseldn @aceagrams where Ruins premiered last November. Set against a stark backdrop of desolate buildings on the estate the pictures portray physical strength with grace and tenderness in a way that challenges male stereotypes mirroring themes explored in the Ruins Performance such as ‘the myth of masculinity in the pan-African diaspora. The pictures conjure up a sense of pride and beauty whilst echoing hints of tension and shame. I have also photographed Rhys and Waddah earlier this year for The Addison Act Exhibition at Brent Council celebrating 100 years of council homes and their tenants. Then you said, “I’m going to get an agent” and you did, and started booking TV spots in nyc almost instantly. “I’m going to Hollywood,” you proclaimed...leaving your big sis behind in a trail of tears. But I loved visiting you and staying in your Santa Monica apt, and before we knew it, you had a recurring role on Pretty Little Liars, movie roles in Nightmare on Elm Street and so many more. After some struggles, you came to NYC and started a new chapter. You said you wanted to focus on your music, and you taught yourself to play guitar, piano and harmonica. You created incredible songs, I treasure them beyond words. 💞You are an absolutely magnetic performer ✨ You said you wanted to write music...and one day you hopped in the car and said, “I’m going to Juilliard.” 🤯 Unbeknownst to any of us, you had applied and gotten in to the hardest admissions process in the world-you studied & composed music at Juilliard. One of your pieces was played at Carnegie Hall. ✨ We were also able to share so much time together, both living in Brooklyn. Nothing in this world made me happier than when you were happy & healthy. Happy Birthday Mom ❤️ Before I was legally old enough to be on movie sets by myself my mom was with me on every shoot. Every 4am call time. Every 18 hour night-shoot. Behind the monitors watching every scene and giving me the thumbs up after a good take. Not to mention driving me to every audition in Toronto traffic. I have memories of being late to my hockey games because of auditions and so I would change into my full gear in the car while my mom was racing to the rink. She would then carry me into the arena (she is abnormally strong) so my skate blades wouldn’t get ruined. I also had four other siblings and we all acted and played sports. I don’t know how she did it. She was the opposite of a stage-mom. Which I am very lucky to have had because I’ve witnessed way too many young actors have their childhoods ruined by their moms or dads pushing them into an industry they didn’t enjoy. I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve heard crew members on set say “you have the coolest mom ever”. I came to Australia with my mother and brother when we fled the Lebanese civil war. My dad joined us a couple of years later. It was the 70’s, I was 8 years old. Occasionally, I’m asked if I remember the war. The truth is you don’t ever forget the sound, smell or fear of war and you don’t forget leaving the people you love behind. I didn’t know it at the time but we were so incredibly lucky... to have landed in Sydney, a safe haven in an amazing country with its beauty, abundance, laid back people and seemingly endless possibility. I love Australia beyond words. It’s home. It’s the place my parents were able to, with dignity, rebuild a life. My husband and children are Australian, my friends, my colleagues and my business are all here. The beaches I adore are at our doorstep. My love for Lebanon too never fades and in many ways neither does the hope for its recovery, particularly for its resilient, joyful people. It’s undoubtedly a complex, often misunderstood place. My experience of it has been the generous and loving nature of the people and the beauty of old Beirut and it’s incredible mountains that slide into the Mediterranean. Today we’re stopping to remember those who lost their lives in Tuesday’s devastating explosion and give thought to those suffering more inexplicable loss at this time. If you can, please donate. It’s been 41 days. Phil is finally reunited with his wife and baby girl. They discharged him and due to COVID the PT facilities aren’t working out at the gyms so he went to his mothers house and the PT and nurses will start therapy tomorrow. They say it will be a very long road. Currently, Phil is not walking or moving his arms. So phase 2 of this nightmare will continue but thank god he will do this phase with his eyes open. En el 2015 cuando renunciamos a nuestros trabajos para cumplir nuestro sueño: RECORRER EL MUNDO!!! rondaban varias preguntas por mi cabeza : ¿Y AHORA QUIÉN ME VA A PAGAR? ¿DE DÓNDE SACARÉ LO QUE ME PAGABAN? ¿CÓMO VOY A VIVIR? La gente nos decía “ay ese es mi sueño, Pero imposible dejar mi trabajo ahora” También nos decían: ustedes deben de ser millonarios! 😂Les cuento que nosotros para poder viajar ahorramos poco dinero por eso mi miedo más grande era QUEDARME SIN PLATA. Cuando renuncié recuerdo tener un par de crisis porque le decía a mi esposo que necesitábamos MÁSSS DINERO para irnos de PERÚ, él solo me decía: ¿para qué más? Y yo le respondía: para poder viajar y no pasar angustias, él me miraba y me decía: confía que todo estará bien, el dinero siempre llega!! y luego pensaba que era cierto! Que siempre me las ingenié y que tenemos un cuerpo completo y un cerebro muy bueno! Así que Algo haríamos! Y así fue cómo viajamos por 2 años y recorrimos más de 15 países! Tuvimos momentos en los que nos quedaban 20 soles en la billetera y les juro que no había más!!! 🙈Cuando pasaba eso recordaba las palabras de mi papá: “LA NECESIDAD ES LA MADRE DE LA CREATIVIDAD! así que siempre se nos ocurría algo! y por supuesto jamás perdíamos la fe ni la buena vibra y PUM algo sucedía que nuevamente nos ayudaba a seguir con nuestros sueños! Les cuento esto porque a raíz de todo lo que ha ocurrido muchas personas de un día para otro se quedaron sin trabajo y están pensando: ¿y ahora? ¿Se acabó todo? ¿Cómo voy a sobrevivir? Pero desde mi experiencia puedo decirte que estoy segura que el universo tiene algo hermoso para ti! Porque siempre siempre cuando una puerta se cierra, muchas más se abren! ❤️Quizá la vida te esta regalando este momento para que por fin comiences a hacer lo que realmente te gusta 😍Mi vieja siempre me decía: Pueda que hayan momentos malos pero imagínate si todo fuera perfecto? QUE ABURRIDO!😂Así que jamás pierdas la fe!Así que libera todos esos miedos, todas esas incertidumbres y fluye con la vida pero lo más importante HAS ALGO QUE TE HAGA FELIZ! This movie has been in my watchlist for almost a year now and I regret for not watching it earlier.. The pathos of the film carried throughout made my heart heavy.. I cant even start to describe how the movie was, without mentioning the protagonist of the film, Zain al Rafeea, who is an actual syrian refugee turned actor. The pain and struggles he faced in his life will reflect in his face and eyes throughout the film. I suggest everyone should watch this film atleast once in their lifetime. This “silly little virus”, as Nug calls it, has brought about so much change for us. Amongst the turbulent waves, so much unexpected opportunity. Exploring a new part of the world, new friends, a lot more still time together and... the new addition to our team. . We’re renovating Adams van and waiting for interstate boarders to open so we can start our road trip through the Northern Territory to WA so I can finally kiss my besties pregnant belly or maybe introduce our nuggets if boarder opening takes a while. . The Whitsunday Islands and endless crystal clear surf breaks in Queensland, Arnhem Land, Uluru and Kakadu National park in the Northern Territory, exploring the Kimberleys, hopefully scoring Gnaraloo and meeting the Ningaloo whale sharks in North WA before heading South to Asha and wine country. . @rocks opened in UK cinemas on Friday. I sat in the cinema on opening night (first time since March!) and shed a tear or two. Moved by these amazing young women who went on such a journey with us during those long crazy wild weeks of filming. . It felt incredible and surreal to watch a movie in my local cinema, in the exact place it was shot, surrounded by people who looked exactly like those on the screen. A place I’ve called home for over 15 years. . This film was made by an army of strong women (and some some men too 😜) at different stages in their lives & careers. . Thankful to have been part of it, grateful for @sarahgavron and @ameenah_allen taking a chance on me and providing me with an opportunity to rise up and move forward. Proud to have worked alongside the legend that is DP Helene Louvart and all the amazing camera/grip team who made the magic happen. .
