So last night we took @lifeofbabyz out for the first time. It was such a different experience for both of us. We were very concerned if it is safe for us to take him out in these times, as he can’t even wear a mask. Luckily, the restaurant we went to was not very crowded and we found a secluded corner. I’m a steak lover and @bovinoes is one of my favourite places in Lahore for my steak cravings. They cook it beautifully and the meat is always juicy. Also, the creamy jalapeño sauce is my favourite! Heaven gained a legend today, the patriarch of my family. 92 years young, I called him Lito and he called me “Mi Bella Nieta.” I was his first grandchild and gave him his first great grandson 25 years ago. Less than a year ago he welcomed his second great grandson. He loved his family and prayed over each and every one of us daily. 🙏🏼❤️ Although we lived far from each other we always had a special bond and connection. We had many things in common, like our fierce love of dancing and our strong love for our Costa Rican culture. Lito was an original Tico, he loved his coffee and gallopinto. His stature matched his personality, he was the life of the party. Mesmerized by his stories of the old days, I would record many of his conversations. My favorite by far was the love story of when he met my grandmother, Nana. I inherited his passion for photography and all things beautiful. Another year and another birthday passes. This year’s was a difficult one. Even as we are coming out of a global crisis, the already hard times have been compounded by the distrust and anger we are all directing towards each other. To top It all off, I lost a very close friend. One whom I looked forward to seeing or hearing from regularly, but now can only be with through some of the great memories we shared. Through those recollections, I’ve reflected much more on why we are here. Times like these are extremely trying, but when you look around you, you realize that family is what really matters the most. Be they of blood or of acquaintance, family is why we are here. This year will be a hard one. It will be far more challenging than any that I’ve had to live through, but I’ll catch my breath and fight on even stronger. I’ll fight for those that mean everything to me.
