@johndioso and I created BLM Mashups as our Gen X punk way of graphically expressing our allyship with Black Lives Matter and culturally reappropriating traditionally white rock imagery for POC and repurposing it in the war to vanquish systemic racism: Hey, Ho, Say Their Names takes the Ramones’ classic presidential seal logo and replaces the band members with the names of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and Rayshard Brooks, the martyrs whose tragic murders sparked this year’s social justice protests. The Ramones’ battle cry “Hey! Ho! Let’s go!” has been replaced by “Black lives matter” and “Say their names.” Joy Divisions Unknown Pleasures pulsar is the iconic image of the postpunk era, and one that needs no type either on the album cover or the T-shirts, which became a cultural marker for indie goths worldwide. Inspired by the 1619 Project, “Unknown Numbers repurposes that image, which details successive radio waves emitted by a rotating neutron star, to represent the incalculable masses lost to racist violence over the entire course of American history. The minimal type treatment—FACT-1619 and BLM—echoes the original album design. When Jacob Blake was shot in the back seven times by a police officer in Kenosha, Wisc., professional athletes voiced their objection by striking. WNBA players, as usual, were leaders in the protests. The Washington Mystics took the floor of their next game wearing white T-shirts, each emblazoned with one hand-drawn letter of Blake’s name on the front and seven bullet holes on the back. “The Blake Album mashes up WNBA players bold response to the shooting with the Beatles classic, spare White Album,” which has extra resonance given John Lennon’s death by gun violence 40 years ago. I would like to sit down and take the time to thank everyone that has supported me on my journey to pursue my dreams. I am currently experiencing a time of massive growth within my life and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of each and every person, the good and bad. It’s been hard. I had an emotional day yesterday, and at first I was so incredibly angry and frustrated because I felt that all of the world was against me after a ton of hard work that I’d put in. However, I then realized that I am the best version of myself that I’ve ever been, and now sitting here, I realize how incredibly beautiful that is. I am now no longer angry, but immensely grateful and fortunate for the opportunities that I’ve had and have coming to me. So again I’d like to say thank you, to my friends and family for supporting me in the ways that they can, and educating me on the matters and things that are important in life. My clients for giving me a tremendous amount of trust and respect for it is allowing me to grow and become the best artist that I can be. And to the common person, whom I may not know on a personal level, but maybe a conversation or couple of kind words we’ve exchanged. In a time where everything seems dark and bleak, I find I only want to express love, gratitude and positivity to each and every person I come into contact with. We all have struggle and we all have conflict. Let’s utilize each other as mentors and allies in this journey we call life, because we need each other now more than ever, and the only way we are going to progress in the correct direction is out of love. Also, it is a beautiful day to work toward demanding justice for the countless human beings that have been subject to the oppression of the criminal justice system and the systemic white supremacy that plagues this nation. Change comes from within, so the only way that we can progress towards a future that is truly equal and free of these terrible learned and oppressive behaviors comes from looking inside yourself, and finding any and all facets that reflect said behaviors, and destroying them. The Insignia of the Khalsa: The Khanda (Punjabi: ਖੰਡਾ, khaṇḝĝ) is one of the most important symbols of Sikhism. This is emphasized by the fact that many Sikh flags, including the Nishan Sahib, have the Khanda on them. It is a collection of four weapons commonly used by Sikhs at the time of Guru Gobind Singh. It symbolizes Freedom, and Authority governed by moral and spiritual values. On the outside of the two-edged sword, we can see two swords: On the left is the Sword of Spiritual Sovereignty (Piri); Khanda Dark Red Chiselled.jpg On the right is the Sword of Political Sovereignty (Miri) There must always be a balance between the two, and this balance is emphasized by a circle inside. This circle is what is called a Chakra or Chakkar. The Chakra is a symbol of all-embracing Divine Manifestation, including everything and wanting nothing, without beginning or end, neither first nor last, timeless, and Absolute. It is the symbol of oneness, of Unicity of Justice, Humanity, and Immortality. Almost all Sikh warriors used to wear it in the eighteenth century, and Nihangs of today still do. The Chakra / Chakkar which was worn by the great martyr, Baba Deep Singh, is still preserved in the sanctum sanctorum of the Akal Takht.
