True Story There I was, yesterday, sat outside a cafe having a cup of tea. I look across a couple of tables and theres a guy staring at me, like, really intently staring. Me no, sorry He scratches his head, looking a little confused So who are you and where are you from then? Im Paul, Im from South East London, though from Kent originally. Happy Anniversary to my one true love! When I got married at the age of 18 I think there were many who thought we were crazy! Maybe we were; but to this day, when Steve enters a room he still takes my breath away, reminds me of how joyful life can be, and makes me feel like everything is just “right” in the world. Steve makes me laugh, he makes me cry, but most of all, he makes me understand the meaning of the word “love”! In our 34 years of marriage we have been through A LOT together! It has not always been easy; in fact, a lot of it has been really hard work! But, we know that successful marriages require a high degree of patience and unselfishness. HOW ABOUT THIS FOR A “FULL CIRCLE” STORY.... . . I attended my first @ccmaofficial awards when I was just a kid. It was in Edmonton, and at that particular industry week I met Louis O’Reilly - who 8 years later would become my manager. At that particular industry week I met Jim Cressman - who 9 years later would become my agent and co-manager. At that particular industry week, I was introduced to Steve Coady and Laura Fraser, who 13 years later would sign me to a record deal with @warnermusiccanada. I was too young to understand the power of manifestation. I was too young to understand what destiny really meant, or what it was. But I would write down my goals on a piece of paper, and tape it on my bedroom mirror. I would look at them every day. And now, somehow, I’m here... 18 years later, still in shock and still on a high from the most extraordinary CCMA weekend of my life. And guess who I celebrated with? Louis O’Reilly, my manager. Guess who else? Jim Cressman, my co manager and agent. And guess who else? Steve Coady, Laura Fraser, and the rest of the team at Warner Music Canada. . . Is your mind blown? Because mine is! . . Tänk att det på andra sidan jorden, längst med risfält, bäckar och lummiga skogar överösta av artrikedom, också strövar Skogsmullebarn tillsammans med sina ledare. För två år sedan var jag där. Med min kursledarkollega Camilla skulle jag utbilda pedagoger, träffa Japans Skogsmulleledare och hålla inspirationskurser. Intresset var enormt – kurserna blev snabbt fullbokade trots att vi ökat platserna tredubbelt! Sista dagen tittade 60 par ögon på mig när jag visade leken ”Ekorre byter bo” med hoppande, snurrande och storstegande rörelser. Med stor glädje träffade de Kocken Klorofyll som tillagade socker och syre av vatten, koldioxid och solstrålar. Happy Bi Visibility Day!! We take a brief intermission from Mexico to express how truly liberating it has been realizing I’m queer. This is a photo I didn’t use from my Pride Series last year during World Pride... my official public coming out when I declared myself bi, debunked some common misconceptions, and shared some personal experiences that may resonate with others. While coming out and being queer has its own fair share of challenges (constant unsolicited requests for 3ways, being called greedy and promiscuous and assumed I’m a cheater, weird catcalling/comments whenever I kiss a girl at the end of a date, etc), realizing it’s ok to be different and embracing it fully has brought me closer to home within myself. It has pushed me to give others courage to be completely, fully themselves through my actions and openness. A few reminders: -Bi erasure is a thing and it sucks, but we must fight on! -It’s okay if you’re not ready to tell anyone. You aren’t required to come out to anyone at any point unless you want to. -If a label doesn’t feel good, don’t use one. -Bi doesn’t mean someone is attracted to men and women only. -Bi does not mean someone is attracted to men and women 50/50. -You can change how you define yourself at any time and you don’t owe anyone an explanation. -You’re cute. • ALYSSA & GRACE This is Aly. Aly is 17 today (woo!) (*actually she is 18 sorry, typo!!). For those of you who don’t know, Aly and I are very intimately connected, genetically speaking. We both have natural unruly, blonde locks, hooded eyes that are mildly inconvenient for make-up, and skin that gets cooked within 30 minutes in the sun. We also both have an annoyingly high capacity for giggling at PewDiePie’s rants about Jake Paul (*Crrection! now it’s Cody Ko and Noel Miller playing Love Island!!), very advanced vocal impression skills (*you shold hear our John Mulaney), and a high appreciation for unique music and art. In these ways, being Aly’s sister is fun and loving her is easy. But Aly and I are also very different in some ways. She deeply loves kids and wants to teach elementary schoolers. She thinks being involved in sports is fun. She genuinely enjoys Hallmark movies, and she wears clothes that were made after 1995. In these ways, being Aly’s sister can be challenging because we have vastly different perspectives. But the older we both get (*not actually that chellinginh anymore tbh need to delete that part!!), the more I learn how important her perspectives are, and to really take them seriously. It’s easy to love people that we share a lot in common with, but true love arises when we are able to disagree with people and still have grace for them and love them through it. I was just reading yesterday that from 2010-2017 the suicide rate in ages 14-25 years old has increased 56%. Pretty scary.
