Happy Sunday Family!!! I always share with people how important it is to relax and rest and this weekend showed me how much I truly have NOT been practicing what I preach. On my days off from my corporate job I still manage to find something to do. Fooling myself to believe that I just cant sit still! Sis, you have two choices you either sit still or your body will MAKE you sit still and it wont be good. This weekend, the family and I took our FIRST road trip together to go visit my grandma! We enjoyed everything countryside! The boys chased chickens, stayed up all night, and actually got along!! I enjoyed stories and got some great wisdom about life from my grandma. The only work we did was this photoshoot with @ashleycombsphotography. We fed horses (well one horse) and really enjoyed our time together. Scareful’ Piggy back = 1/3 : Sheer laziness 1/3 : Tiredness 1/3 : Communication This mixed media installation (via Instagram) is about my continuing journey raising a child on the autism spectrum and living with ASD. It is not a pity party, I want the piece to celebrate my son and the intricacies of the Neurodiverse mind. Through Theo I have learned to understand my own idiosyncracies and my spectrum-y outlook on life… trust me there are plus and minus points! This piece is a celebration and empowerment for families who are on a similar path. It can be very lonely, exhausting and daunting, shared experiences are empowering. We had mutual HS friends that put us in contact with each other because Ania & I were both going out of town to the same college and needed off campus housing. The night I met Ania I was in super rebellious teenager mode. I told my Dad (the evening of, while I was packing 😳) that I was going on a road trip to go find an apartment for school 6 hours away. I had stopped accepting college planning help at that point and decided to do everything on my own. My Dad didn’t love it. What do you mean ur going on a damn road trip?! I don’t care if you’re 18, I’m still responsible for you! Where are you staying?! Who is driving!? I remember saying in all my teenage attitude, “uMmM... aNiA’s driViNg🙄” to which my Dad said, “WHO THE HELL IS Ania?!?!” Moments later Ania tapped on the door, super chill and all b-girl dressed down. I whispered to her, my Dad’s mad & nudged her to just go with it as she came in. I had never met Ania before that exact moment. I assured my Dad that she was responsible (how would I know?!), that we would be staying at her grandparents house in Long Beach (they live across the street from the University), and that we’d all be smart & safe. The night we met, we road tripped for 6 hours and our first stop was her grandparents home in Long Beach. I had no idea that was the house we’d eventually make our own & 21 years later be raising our 3 kids in. It’s wild. You never know where your love story will begin or what it may look like. For us, it started with severe teenage angst & a road trip. And a trippin ass Dad (who became Pop Pop) who likely cried himself to sleep that night because of all the stress I was putting him through 😂 So to answer the question now, WHO THE HELL IS ANIA?! She’s the girl I became friends with at 18, the one I was friends with for years, who eventually became my college roommate, and ultimately the mother of my beautiful kids and the absolute love of my life. Parents of 2 or more kids! I need to know, how well do your kids get along? DJ and Kennedy are 5 years apart and they have quite the unique relationship because they have such different personalities. Kennedy has the most vibrant, outgoing personality and she is full of energy and has PLENTY to say at ANY given moment, while DJ is literally the chillest kid ever and is as cool as a fan. (Trust me it wasnt always this way), so he and Ken definitely butt heads because he would much rather be left alone and Kennedy is your typical little sister. She demands the room and will NOT be ignored lol These same personality traits trickle over to other areas of their lives like their personal style. DJ likes it easy peasy. Give him a sweatsuit or some basics and hes good, not Ken, she needs ALLL the razzle dazzle. Thankfully @kohls has a good combo of both to fit both of their styles.
