Easily one of the most photographed and recognizable features in Arkansas, the Hawksbill Crag, also known as Whitaker Point, is located in the Ozark National Forest. The hike there is a moderate 3 mile round trip that does have several sections that hug the bluff and do require care, and access to the trailhead is via a 6-mile drive up a gravel road with plenty of potholes. However, the effort is worth it as you will be rewarded with scenic vistas, huge boulders, beautiful waterfalls and colorful wildflowers. Were close to peak color in the Ausable watershed. Every year brings different color highlights as the chlorophyll breaks down in tree leaves. In this photo from a few years back, orange was the dominant color. This year, red seems to be the most prevalent.
