Fantastic read on on of our favourites @saveoursoil via @missorganic_ As we come together to support and send love to our Victorian community, I would like to celebrate and show gratitude to one of the legends of biodynamic farming in Victoria - Mark Rathbone @saveoursoil as my Australian Organic Awareness Month Farmer today. 👨🏻‍🌾 Mark was one of the first Victorian farmers I met after moving to Melbourne in 2007. I was fairly fresh in organics and didn’t speak biodynamic yet and so I learned from Mark at my first visit to Gasworks Farmers Market. 🌱Biodynamic produce is ultra special, it’s commonly known as enhanced organic and in my experience, incredibly flavoursome especially Mark’s produce! I will never forget that watermelon. 🍉 Four years later in 2011, I was lucky enough to host Mark as our guest speaker for a community education event at Miss O HQ in Port Melbourne (scraped out some pics from the old iPhone 1😉). 🥦 Mark began learning at a young age from his father Don (who was an ex-conventional farmer turned biodynamic due to the work of Alex Podolinsky, the modern founder of biodynamic farming in Australia). Mark is a 4th generation farmer and 2nd generation biodynamic farmer in Kyabram and is devoted to educating the community about the benefits and importance of biodynamic food growing and eating. Dieser Spielplatz für Kinder mit und ohne Handicap wird mit aktiver Beteiligung von Kindern aus elf Cottbuser Fröbel-Kitas geplant. A star-studded line-up of narrators is one of the highlights of a relaunched nature trail in #Coulsdon which also boasts a 64-page full colour booklet. Joanna Lumley, Benjamin Zephaniah, Noddy Holder, Martin Jarvis, Gyles Brandreth, Tony Robinson and Richard O’Brien are just some of the celebrities who have volunteered their time to narrate sections of the trail which can be accessed by smartphones using QR codes on 29 marker posts. The trail has markers spread between Happy Valley and #FarthingDowns. The project was organised by the Friends of Farthing Downs and Happy Valley and made possible by a grant from the City of London Corporation. Earlier this week I had the opportunity to visit Clint Brauer and see his farming robots in action. Clint was born and raised in Kansas but ended up in the robotics industry in California. Upon returning to Kansas, he took up farming and put his robotics skills to work developing robots that are trained to kill weeds, leaving time for he and others on his team to do other tasks on the farm. The robots target and kill the weeds using fire – not pesticides. Clint has put this technology to use at MG Honor Farms, where he grows both vegetables and traditional crops outside Wichita. It’s innovation like this that allow Kansas farmers to continue doing more with less. - @repmarshall on Instagram

The challenges are great, but we should not lose sight of the strengths that helped make #Halifax a city on the rise. I believe the strengths of our municipality when COVID hit will position us well for recovery. With record immigration, increased development, a strong knowledge and innovation economy, a busy Port and airport, bustling shipyard, and solid investments in creating vibrant communities, Halifax has become a top performing urban economy. At the same time, not all citizens have been part of the pre-Covid success. The pandemic has put many people at greater risk of falling further behind given inequalities such as housing affordability, food security, and systemic racism. Together, we must ensure that we are not just a bigger city, but a better city, where every child has enough to eat and a secure place to sleep, where every citizen finds a place to match their talent and their ambition, and where we all contribute to a healthy, sustainable environment. Meanwhile @sainsburys have recently introduced single use plastic egg boxes. Fresh Veggies Farm - Unfortunately, this is the end of the season for Farmer Bob. Their crops got hit with a bad frost and their winter crops are still slow to grow. 😔 But, Farmer Bob will be back at Withrow again next Spring! This winter he will focus on building infrastructure and greenhouses on their new farm property in Rodney, Ontario. Through the USDAs Farmers to Families Food Box program, farmers across the U.S. are feeding families in need. I recently had the opportunity to visit A & H Farm in Manhattan to learn about the produce they are providing to food boxes for area communities. The program, which was started in May and has been extended until Oct. 31, has distributed nearly 50 million boxes of produce, dairy, milk and meat products to families affected by COVID. The USDA purchases products from local farmers and distributes them to communities to help in feeding families in need.
