The BC Centre for Disease Control released some tips this week to help British Columbians stay safe while participating in sexual activity during the pandemic. One of their recommendations was that intercourse be limited to positions with minimal face-to-face contact. That makes sense, I suppose, since COVID-19 is a respiratory virus, although I feel like if you’re at the point where you’ve decided to have sex with someone, you should probably just bring them into your social bubble and call it a day, but I digress. They then go on to elaborate by suggesting engaging in positions involving barriers that allow for sexual contact, but prevent close face-to-face contact (e.g., glory holes)… (E.G., GLORY HOLES)?!? Whoever this four-eyed, soda cracker of a human being is who wrote this list, they’ve clearly never casually perused the bottomless filmographies of xHamster or SpankBang, because they certainly wouldn’t be recommending this type of behaviour to the general public if they had. I legitimately don’t think that a single person who took part in the publication of this information had even the faintest of inklings about the social and cultural connotations that are deeply hard-coded into the term “glory hole”.
