Петер Мёрк Мёнстед (дат. Peder Mørk Mønsted 1859 -1941) ⠀ Родился в восточной части Дании на полуострове Ютландия, в семье богатого кораблестроителя. В детстве посещал уроки рисования в Художественом училище в Орхусе, позже переехал в Копенгаген. В 1875—1879 учился в датской королевской академии изящных искусств под руководством пейзажиста и портретиста Андриеса Фритца и мастера жанровой живописи Юлиуса Экснера. Затем, Мёнстед прошел курс обучения в школе Петера Северина Кроера, а позже переехал в Париж, где занимался в мастерской одного из самых популярных живописцев его времени Адольфа Вильяма Бугро. ⠀ В 1882 посетил Рим и остров Капри, где был покорен красотой и яркостью красок средиземноморского пейзажа. В течение своей длительной карьеры П. Мёнстед много путешествовал, часто бывал в Швейцарии, Италии, северной Африке, а также Греции, где в течение года был гостем королевской семьи и писал их портреты. ⠀ С начала XX века и до самой смерти П. In 1899 schilderde Co Breman dit mooie schilderij Dorpsgezicht te Blaricum. Breman hield van de zon. Hij schilderde in zonlicht badende landschappen, boerderijen, kleurrijke interieurs en figuren. Hij werkte als een van de eerste Nederlandse schilders in een pointillistische techniek die hij toepaste om het warme zomerse licht weer te geven. Zijn nieuwe stijl leverde hem ook de nodige kritiek op. Een recensent veroordeelde dit schilderij als een mislukte nieuwerwetsche poging om de zon binnen te halen. Looks like our Tornado Over Kansas has some attention at MidlandUSA Radio Corporation in Kansas City, the nation’s #1 manufacturer of NOAA Weather Radios. Their meteorologist/spokesperson Bruce Jones has a long standing interest in the painting, and shared that a print of the painting that was in his childhood home inspired him to become a meteorologist. A new Tornado Over Kansas poster is heading to Kansas City for the Midland Radio team! Thank you, Mr. Jones, for sharing these comments with us: The painting tells such a frightening story and yet the Mom and Dad ( certainly the latter) always gave me assurance that the kids and the pets would be okay. Curry also did a good job on the tornado and its surrounding clouds, at a time when the details of tornado formation were not well understood. His portrayal of the funnel cloud and its position in relation to the parent thunderstorm is right on. Even what’s now known as the “clear slot”, a slight erosion of nearby clouds caused by downdraft winds, is portrayed accurately. He must have studied several photos and astutely recreated a real twister. For all of its scientific integrity and the sheer terror, familial cohesiveness, and kinetic drama of the situation, it ranks as my favorite painting.
