I took a portrait of my undercover rockstar of a dad. He designs and produces fabrics for the big dogs of the fashion world. Balenciaga, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, you name it, he’s worked with them and all whilst championing sustainable clothing production. MTK is one of the last remaining companies in the country, in its field to deal with that caliber of fashion brand. At the Himba of Namibia in Southern Africa, the date of birth of a child is fixed, not at the time of its arrival in the world, nor in its design, but much earlier: since the day the child is thought in His Mothers mind.⠀ ⠀ When a woman decides shes going to have a child, she settle down and rests under a tree, and she listens until she can hear the song of the child who wants to be born. And after she heard this childs song, she comes back to the man who will be the father of the child to teach him that song. And then, when they make love to physically design the child, they sing the song of the child, to invite him.⠀ ⠀ When the mother is pregnant, she teaches the singing of this child to the midwives and older women of the village. So, when the child is born, old women and people around him sing his song to welcome him.⠀ ⠀ As the child grows, the other villagers learn his song. So if the child falls, or gets hurt, he always finds someone to pick him up and sing his song. Similarly, if the child does something wonderful, or successfully passes through the rites of passage, the people of the village sing his song to honor him.⠀ ⠀ In the tribe, there is another opportunity where villagers sing for the child. If, at any time during his life, the person commits an aberrant crime or social act, the individual is called in the center of the village and the people of the community form a circle around him. Then they sing his song.⠀ ⠀ The tribe recognizes that the correction of antisocial behavior does not pass through punishment, it is by love and reminder of identity. When you recognize your own song, you dont want or need to do anything that would harm the other.⠀ And the same way through their lives. Cooler weather means dress up time! 🕺🏽👜 . Think I was in Paris in March when I last wore a suit and gelled my hair back. Takes a lot of confidence for me to feel so exposed without glasses 🤓 and my fringe 👦🏻 especially as my face battled #maskne and breakouts from the stress of this #newnormal that we are all in. . Still a way to go to achieving pre-covid skin perfection but @epionclinic is helping me achieve that goal. 👌 . I love this old Bottega Veneta suit in a great peachy hue that’s so flattering for the skin. It’s another one of those “holiday outfits” for travels to exotic locales but I felt a morning English brekkie 🥓🍳🥞 at @theenglishhousesingapore was good timing to tear off the dry cleaning tags. Cheers to @ralphlauren @poloralphlauren for the launch of the smoking cool Polo Watch Collection. Images are out takes from a shoot for the #ralphlauren polo app. Most likely the smoking and drinking images might be omitted meaning you may not recognise me. 🤣 Wearing my own #polo double breasted corduroy diner jacket customised with a #polobear patch. For me the watch bears special significance. As an awkward Asian kid growing in New York City RL’s Polo Player was a symbol of optimism, egalitarianism and ineffable style that was inspiring. I love that for every kid dreaming of having a #poloplayer shirt there was a special significance. For me it was about touching part of the world of unique vision and timeless elegance created by Ralph Lauren. I chose the blue dial watch with the 3 dimensional player complimented by the leather NATO strap because it reminds me of my favourite Polo Tech collections and the vibrant colours and bold graphic designs of the Snow Beach, Stadium 92 and Ski 92 collections. But most of all the watch is significant to me because years later I would get to meet the man who created this extraordinary brand and find him not just to be a great designer (the greatest) but in the way he’s led his life as a leader, humanitarian and father also a great human being. The watch retails for around 1.6k which is pretty democratic and I was surprised by the lume in the minute markers on what I assume is a ceramic bezel insert. With no pressure to follow in the footsteps of his parents, Chen eventually enrolled in an acting class for fun and he fell in love with the craft. After earning a degree in theater, Chen relocated to New York and eventually to Los Angeles. ___ Chen had a few brief recurring roles in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D series on ABC and the Amazon Prime Video Bosch, but Mulan is his first big role. Then, Gigi, a licensed helicopter pilot like her father, flew reporters around Hong Kong Island to view the mansion, yelling, “Wave to Daddy!” She wrote an open letter defending her relationship with her then partner, Sean Eav, whom she had wed in a civil ceremony in France the year before. (They announced their separation last March.) . “A lot of people say that I’m brave and I’m courageous, but I think he felt somehow that his worldview was being threatened,” Gigi says. “It was his way of doing something to ensure that his daughter is loved—albeit, in his kind of thinking, love equals money. Maybe not everyone would agree with that one, but I guess for him, part of his legacy is to make sure that his only daughter is respected and not ridiculed.” .
