Update from the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw: On Sept. 18 we identified 119 new cases & completed 12,451 tests. On Sept. 19 we identified 102 new cases & conducted 9,748 tests. Over past 24 hrs we identified 137 new cases & completed 12,760 tests. 51 people are in hospital with 9 in ICU. We continue to closely monitor schools & while new cases continue to be identified, health & education officials are working quickly to limit any possibility of spread. There are 81 schools where 1+ individuals attended while infectious & 126 cases linked to those schools. This includes 6 new school outbreaks. We define an outbreak as 2+ cases in individuals who’ve been at school in the last 14 days. We have identified 2 schools where in-school transmission has likely occurred. AHS is working closely with them. This is not cause for alarm. I must report 1 death, a patient at Calgarys Foothills Medical Centre. I extend my condolences. We take any outbreak in an acute care facility seriously. To date, 14 patients & 4 staff have tested positive on 3 units. I’ve been assured outbreak protocols have been implemented. Any patient with symptoms, or who has tested positive for COVID-19, is isolated & being treated in designated rooms. The Foothills Medical Centre remains a safe place to visit & receive care – there is no increased risk to patients coming to the hospital. I’ve been asked about cohorts. Your core cohort is family/household & others - up to 15 people who interact without staying 2m apart. All should be committed & anyone who is sick should not interact with others. Co-workers or attendees of the same church are not cohorts. Many factors impact the safety & risk of participating in sports. It is easier to maintain 2m in some sports & a cohort model may not be needed if distancing can be maintained. Other sports require close contact & cohort model is important to keep risk contained. When in doubt, I recommend keeping sports cohorts as limited as possible. Ruth Bader Ginsburg spoke about the dangers of antisemitism. I had the good fortune of being a Jew born in the United States. Our parents, one of whom came from Odessa—an area where the Jews were fearful of pogroms. I might not have been here—I more than likely would not have survived the Holocaust if my mothers family had remained in Austria. So, thats what I mean by my great good fortune to be in the United States, where, I think, more than any other place, despite the existence of antisemitism, Jews can feel free to live their lives as they will, to think as they choose. . . . I came to see that there were brave people standing up for the most fundamental values of the United States, that is, the right to think and speak freely and without fear that you would be punished for your ideas. After World War II, many nations came to appreciate that elected representatives cant necessarily be trusted to uphold fundamental human rights. And so, countries began to do what the United States had been doing since the beginning. That is, courts interpreting a higher law. In our case, our Constitution and Bill of Rights. In the case of Europe, the new constitutions—the post-World War II constitutions that have similar guarantees of freedom of speech, freedom of religion. And separate tribunals—constitutional courts—began to engage in that business. Its just one more check against the return of an oppressive government. But, today, there is much cause to be concerned. . . . We can see it right now when the leader of Iran speaks about if there was a Holocaust. If there was one, then why didnt Germany create a special state for the Jews? And there are some people in the United States who are buying that kind of propaganda. Do I think it should be a crime to deny the Holocaust? That is a very difficult question. Whats right for one society is not necessarily right for another. . . . In the United States, I still believe that the way to fight bad speech is not to ban it, but to fight it with true speech. Let’s talk why we say Dismantle instead of reform the police descend from groups made to enforce the genocide of native people, who became groups to catch runaway enslaved people, to post-slavery forces to capture freed Black people for misdemeanors & put them in prison to protect white wealth, to the prison industrial complex & the school to prison pipeline, to countless atrocities & warfare on Black communities ... all ensuring slave labor became prison labor & white wealth was protected. the police have never been made to protect and serve. we cannot “reform” the police. efforts all across american history have been made to reform the police and it has not worked. Since the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement & Trayvon Martin’s murder, all that has come of “reform” is more funding going to police departments. Money that barely goes to ‘reform’ and goes to militarization against us, the people they supposedly ‘protect & serve’ , and this corrupt organization pockets. 50% of my city’s budget goes to the cops, with similar numbers across the country. You cannot reform an organization built solely to protect the upper class wealth, white wealth, the 1%’s wealth - not Black folks, not other marginalized folks, not to protect and serve the general people’s interests. The cops need to go. Of course they can’t overnight, but that’s why we are in this for the long term. ‘Defund. Disarm. Dismantle’ are steps. We must slowly drain funding for the police, put it into good community safety (healthcare, mental healthcare, rape/domestic abuse crisis centers, childcare, education, etc), and build up new community safety teams so we can keep our own neighborhoods safe. It is possible. imagine a world where we have specialized services to fill all these needs, where people are trained to use de-escalation tactics over violence. where rehabilitation is chosen over incarceration. in a world working to end systemic oppression & poverty over protecting the wealth of the privileged few is a safer world. #defundthepolice #defunddisarmdisband #bluelivesmurder #mutualaid #blacklivesmatter - @art_twink on Instagram

Today I wanted to cover STI preventing contraceptives !! (STI= Sexually transmitted Infections) When should you protect yourself from STIs when engaging in sex? ALWAYS unless you and your partner/s/ have been tested recently and both have the green light !! How often should you get tested? Once a year as long as situations stay the same , but youll have to be retested if you change or add partners! Dont have access to a doctor? You can get at home tests or there are some testing facilities that do flexible payments (pay what you can afford) Unsure how to bring up getting tested with a partner ? Try things like Oh I just realised weve never been tested before, would you be up for going this day? Theres a newer at home STI test did you want to try it with me Ive been wanting to get tested soon, whens the last time you got tested? Maybe we should go together !! What if you test positive? STIs are more frequent than you think, there is just still a negative stigma around them. Many STIs are treatable or with use of protection wont effect your sex life! If youve tested positive it is your duty to inform past partners that may be effected as well as any current partners or before engaging with future partners. Try saying something like “Do you have a minute to chat? I want to talk about my recent STI test, because the results may impact you.” Whether its a chronic STI that may effect someone for like or something thats been cured its still important to talk to our partners and make sure we are using proper protection, being open and non judgemental. Everyone who wants it deserves good sex! THINGS LIKE … ✔️Postpartum mental health effects (for either mom or dad), that can include things like irritability, anxiety, baby blues, or even depression. ✔️Unrealistic expectations or pressure set on the mother to be perfect, keep a spotless house and just get everything right. ✔️Sleep deprivation that comes with the territory of having a newborn baby and can lead to crankiness and arguments about who’s turn it is to get up. ✔️Parenting styles that you weren’t aware of previously, whether it’s due to personality issues or basic baby care philosophies like sleep-training or breastfeeding. ✔️The division of household chores that can cause issues if both parents are not equally involved. ✔️Finding time for just the two of you when a sitter isnt possible ✔️Less time or interest in being intimate due to all the physical and hormonal changes. ✔️And increased expenses that inevitably comes with adding another member to the family. SO WHAT CAN YOU DO TO MANAGE? 🙌🏽With any relationship issue, but especially for those affecting new parents, communication is KEY. Discuss your postpartum plan in advance to help get each other on the same page and set expectations better. 🙌🏽Understand that no parent is perfect, no matter how it may seem. Everyone is doing the best they can. Knowing this will help you keep things in perspective. 🙌🏽Give each other grace, those early days may be testing and require lots of patience. 1) The case laws and source of information K.Kumars petition to Delhi High court and Supreme Court of February 2017, The PIL in the Supreme Court challenged the constitutional validity of Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harrasment), 354B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 354C (voyeurism), 354D (stalking) and 375 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code. The PIL sought to make laws pertaining to rape, sexual harassment, stalking, voyeurism, outraging modesty as gender-neutral. 2.The Law Commission, in its 172nd Report submitted in 2000, recommended gender-neutral definition of rape by replacing the term “rape” in the IPC with the words “sexual assault”. The centre accepted the proposal to make definition of rape gender-neutral after the December 16, 2012, gangrape of Nirbhaya. The Justice Verma Committee, set up after the horrific incident, recommended use of the word “person” in place of “woman” to cover all victims of sexual violence. 3. 19-year-old transgender person, for instance, was beaten and gang-raped by five men in Pune in 2017. The accused in the case were booked under Sections 377 (unnatural offences), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC. The trial court found all the accused innocent as Section 377 does not have any mention of the third gender. 4. As we call for justice in the cases of George Floyd and and Ahmaud Arbery, we must also demand justice for Tony McDade, Nina Pop, Layleen Polanco, and all other victims of transphobic and anti-Black violence. We must address and prevent the erasure of trans and queer folks in conversations of police brutality and misogynoir.
