In 1974 Italian artist Arnaldo Pomodoro exhibited at the Rotonda della Besana (also known as the Rotunda di via Besana). Massimo Vignelli designed this poster for the exhibition. Although a bit difficult to see in this digital scan, the poster background is shiny metallic gold as a nod to the sculptures of Pomodoro. The Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro digitized a film about the installation of this exhibition which gives you a virtual tour of the display. The HP Lovecraft trippy tale about a meteor that turns The Gardeners lives upside down ended up shooting in an abandoned pink house in Quinta de Valle Flor in Sintra. This is a private property not far from Palácio da Pena so i’ll admit I had to do a little trespassing to get these pictures. Didn’t want to test my luck for much longer, specially after hearing dogs barking in the distance, so hopefully I will return to make a proper photo coverage of some iconic scenes. The Other Side. When we initially wrote this final track from our EP it was to honour and embody the pain and struggle that we had seen so many of our closest friends face, little did I know I would be face to face with my own struggle in the prelude to the current Covid -19 pandemic. Every bit of anguish and despair I was feeing at that time was translated into the vocal takes you hear on the track. I’d like to thank every single one of my friends who helped me through such a hard time and i’d like the dedicate this song to anyone that is or has ever battled any kind of personal struggle no matter how big or small. My obsession with Anthony Moores shelved 1976 Virgin Records album Out has finally manifested in its first ever vinyl release, coming OUT November 2020 via Drag City! After many discussions with Mr. Moore and taking the album to various labels to find/generate interest, I was finally able (thanks to Emmett Kelly 🙌) to liaise Anthony with Drag City who took the ball and ran with it. The album, recorded in 1975, did actually see a sketchy release in the 90s as a cd and with new album art, but this is the first time it will be on vinyl and with the original album art by Hipgnosis. A new gloomy and doomy project featuring Kelly on vocals and keys announced the release of their new album today! From the band: Drawing influences from indie rock, shoegaze, psych rock, doom metal, goth/darkwave, Denver Colorados BleakHeart creates an emotionally lush atmosphere of rich guitars, haunting synths, and dynamic vocals. Bleakheart began as a solo project of JP Damron (guitars, Vermin Womb, In the Company of Serpents), who soon recruited friend Kelly Schilling (vocals, keys, Dreadnought) to contribute her voice to the project. After releasing an initial demo together, the dreamily-dreary duo was then joined by Mark Chronister (guitars) and Josh Kauffman (drums) to fully realize their unique brand of downtrodden, gothy psychedelia. JOY DIVISION con CLOSER: un epitafio hacia la eternidad 🎧🌟🖤 Para cuando se grabó este disco histórico, en 12 dias durante marzo de 1980, la situación en el seno de JD se encontraba en un exasperante punto de dualidad: el grupo era una máquina sonora que se llevaba todo por delante, con una oscuridad y cuota parte de desesperación notable que lo hacía más morbosamente atractivo aún, y a punto de tomar el mercado norteamericano de un solo golpe con una inminente gira a bordo de su discazo debut Unknown Closer, lanzado sólo unos meses antes. Pero en paralelo, el estado de salud de su cantante con sus ataques de epilepsia y el pozo depresivo en el que se encontraba sumido -y la intriga que ese péndulo anímico traía consigo- lo ponía todo en duda no habiendo certeza alguna de solución de continuidad. En ese contexto tan poco proyectable los de Manchester grabaron Closer, dos meses antes de un suicidio que dejó pasmados a todos y que los obligó a una profunda introspección personal y profesional. Si Unknown Pleasures bucea en las nervaduras del alma y las deja expuestas a quien las quiera ver, Closer te empuja al frío cadalso de la muerte ya desde su excepcional portada, nuevamente a cargo de Peter Saville, quien diseñó esa profunda premonición en abstracto sobre la base de una fotografía de una escultura de la familia Appiani, del cementerio de Génova, sin haber escuchado nada del nuevo disco y obviamente sin adivinar la decisión final de Ian Curtis. Lanzado en julio del ‘80, el LP es tan lúgubre y bello como estremecedor, y forma parte de lo mejor que dejó el post punk como legado.
