In 1876 Anne Whitney became the first woman to create a statue representing a state in the National Statuary Hall Collection. Her statue paid tribute to #SamuelAdams, the Father of the American Revolution from #Massachusetts who was born OTD in 1722. The statue was so popular, the city of Boston commissioned a bronze copy that stands outside of #FaneuilHall. Learn more about the artist and the statue in the first episode of our podcast, Shaping History: Women in Capitol Art, https://www.visitthecapitol.gov/blog/article/anne-whitney-and-marmorean-flock.
