Косатки никогда не нападают на людей в дикой природе, но 2020 необычный год. ⠀ Совершенно нетипичное поведение для этих умнейших животных началось в июле в Гибралтарском проливе. Косатки приплывают в этот район за тунцом в летний и осенний период. Обычно встречи с этими животными вызывают восторг. Но в этом году он быстро сменялся на страх. ⠀ Косатки сначала спокойно плыли рядом с судном и радовали людей своим присутствием, а потом начинали окружать и кусать рулевое перо и киль яхт. Атаки продолжались от 20 минут и более 60 минут. В одном из случаев косатки оторвали кусок пера и оставили экипаж без управления. Капитан позвонил спасателям со словами: «На нас напали косатки!». ⠀ Почему они начали атаковать яхты? Ученые предположили, что такое поведение связано со стрессом. Есть мнение, что косатки разозлились на нас и у них есть на это много причин. Популяция в Гибралтарском проливе находится под угрозой исчезновения - их осталось менее 50 особей. Тунец, за которым они приплывают – также становится все более редким. Косатки буквально вынуждены соперничать с людьми за еду. Ходили слухи, что рыбаки нападали на косаток. Тунец в наше время – «золотая» рыба...поэтому не удивлюсь если это окажется правдой. ⠀ В Гибралтарском проливе большой судоходный трафик, а вместе с этим много шума и загрязнений. Во время пандемии были введены различные ограничения и трафик уменьшился. Сейчас все возобновляется – возможно и это злит косаток. Они успели привыкнуть к «лучшей» жизни, когда наш мир уменьшил натиск на их владения. ⠀ Конечно, это всего лишь теория. Реальную причину знают только сами косатки. Учитывая, что это очень умные и социальные животные – стресс и злость вполне могут объяснить нападения. В стаях косаток были замечены малыши. Возможно, взрослые особи хотели таким образом защитить своих детей. Именно малыши чаще всего погибают от травм при столкновениях с судами и запутывания в сетях. ⠀ Нападения на яхты – это лишь верхушка айсберга. Короли океанов чем-то недовольны и уже открыто это показывают. Ученые считают важным решать причины такого поведения, а не последствия. Очень надеюсь, что так и будет. А вы что думаете? The perks of social media. We believe that social media can be a very sensitive topic. As much as we dislike the dark side of it, we can’t deny how awesome it can be as well. Yesterday we were welcomed by @youngcruisers as new members of the coolest sailing community. That put us in touch with so many amazing people already: boat owners, boat builders, boat repairers and boat lovers! We got flooded by messages with tips and good luck wishes... everyone was so nice to us! It’s really incredible the feeling of belonging to a group, even though if it’s only through virtual relationships, because we know we share a passion. As a highlight from yesterday, the previous owner of Yabá (the one who sold it to the one who sold it to us) found us as well and shared this amazing shot from when Yabá was with her! How priceless is it to get the blessing of someone who loved this boat as much as we do? We are very thankful to this community for welcoming us, sending only good vibes and putting us in contact with so many amazing people! 💙 we can’t wait for the moment we can have some of you on board, sharing stories and a glass of something! A little over four years ago, I nervously attended an overnight orientation at the University of Alabama knowing next to no one at the time. Random room assignment paired me with a stranger from South Carolina, a stranger by the name of Jamison. That was the first connection I’d made in this new setting and, looking back, it was one of the best connections I could have made. Over the next semesters and years we met and developed an ever growing core group of friends at UA that we called our Bamily. The experiences with these people have been unforgettable ones, going on adventures both near and far and making memories all along the way has been an amazing opportunity. One that I didn’t want to end when I graduated before my friends. Not knowing what was next, I drug my feet and stuck around Tuscaloosa an extra year to prolong that experience with all my friends another year. When that was drawing to a close, I crafted a seemingly ridiculous idea to make it last a few months longer with this bike trip. Since then Jamison and I were able to see our country from coast to coast. We visited so many of our friends and made even more new ones along our journey together. Embarking on this last adventure has been a crazy experience with its ups and downs, both literally and metaphorically. Touching the coast after 87 days of traveling and finishing with a ride into Seattle has been bittersweet. We had accomplished something not many people could say, but with that accomplishment brought on the inevitable. This time that I’d created so many opportunities to prolong was coming to an end. This community of Jamison and friends was no longer centrally located within one town anymore, everyone has spread out across the country now. Departing from Seattle this morning and saying goodbye to Jonathan and Jamison felt surreal because it is no longer a way to say “see you later today.” My journey started a little over four years ago and, despite my best efforts, has come to a close this morning as I say my final goodbyes to those people I’ve leaned on most over these past few years. ➖The C&C 27➖ One of the most popular compact cruisers of all time, Canadian based Sailboat manufacturer C&C have created a cult following with this gem. In production since 1970 there have been 5 different “marks”, or modifications, to the design of the boat. The most deviant from the original design being the updated Mark V model. The speed and ease of use of the 27’er is what draws most perspectives to purchase. These boats will sail to speed in remarkably light wind and handle their own in a good blow. Moderately displaced, the actual displacement differs from design year and Mark. The Mark I seeming to be preferred by the masses due to its more robust design. The vessel came outfitted with an Atomic 4 gasoline engine originally, but this can be found upgraded on some models. The Yanmar 2GM being a popular Re-power. The interior ranges from straight lines and uncomfortable angles (Mark I), to posh and modern (Mark V). The head is claustrophobic, and storage space is lacking. The boat is more suited for a weekender than full-time cruiser. Good condition boats can demand a high price on the market these days. Prices range from $5,000 on the lower end to $15,000 on the higher. Mark V’s can bring even more due to their updated design.
