New ❤️ project out today! We partnered up with the Covid-19 Technology Task Force to create a visualization that shows the potential of digital technology to speed contact tracing and help quickly isolate sick individuals. The task force is a volunteer coalition of public health, tech, business, and academic leaders formed to explore and advocate these solutions to policymakers in governments. The viz focuses on “exposure notification” (EN) contract tracing following three undulating ribbons as accessible metaphors for the primary actors in a scenario of disease spread. ✏️ 📞 🦠 Manual contact tracing is a laborious process of calling by telephone someone who has a disease, and then calling all of their known contacts that may have been infected. 📲 EN can more rapidly notify people that they may have crossed paths with someone who is infected. EN do not use GPS or record individual locations so the technology preserves individual privacies. As time progresses, readers understand the relative benefits of EN as compared to purely manual contact tracing.
