#Repost @roemahtoea (@get_repost) ・・・ 20 SEPTEMBER 1839 - 20 SEPTEMBER 2020, 181 TAHUN PEMBUKAAN JALUR KERETA API PERTAMA DI BELANDA Pembukaan jalur Kereta Api di Negeri Belanda (yang terpicu oleh pembukaan jalur Kereta Api Antar Kota pertama di Dunia oleh Inggris pada 1830 yang menghubungkan Lancashire dan Manchester) tentunya adalah akar dari Perkeretaapian di Hindia Belanda (Indonesia). Peluncuran jalur lintas Amsterdam-Haarlem ini, digambarkan dirayakan dengan perayaan yang sangat meriah. Jalur yang menghubungkan kota Amsterdam dan kota Haarlem sepanjang 16 kilometer tersebut dibangun oleh Hollandsche IJzeren Spoorweg-Maatschappij (HSM). HSM membangun jalur tersebut dengan lebar rel 1945mm, sebuah ukuran yang sangat tidak lazim mengingat standar lebar rel di Eropa (yang diinisiasi oleh Inggris) adalah 1435mm. Rangkaian Kereta Api yang akan melintasi jalur Amsterdam - Haarlem pertama kalinya, menggunakan Lokomotif yang dinamai De Arend, sebuah Lokomotif buatan pabrik R. B. Longridge dari Inggris. De Arend sendiri digunakan oleh HSM sampai tahun 1857 dan diduga dirucat (dihancurkan), karena pada tahun 1939, pada peringatan 100 Tahun Kereta Api di Negeri Belanda, De Arend dibuatkan replikanya, dan sampai sekarang masih bisa dilihat di Museum Kereta Api di Utrecht. Pasca pembukaan jalur pertama di tahun 1839, kemudian diikuti dengan pembukaan jalur ke kota lainnya seperti Utrecht, Rotterdam, Aachen, Maastricht, dan lain-lain. Dengan semakin meluasnya jaringan jalur rel, membuat kegiatan perekonomian di Negeri Belanda semakin lancar dan efisien dibanding ketika masih mengandalkan Kereta Kuda sebagai angkutan barang. Keberhasilan Pembukaan Jalur Pertama yang menghubungkan antara Amsterdam - Haarlem pada 181 tahun yang lalu, selain memicu perkembangan perkeretaapian di Negeri Belanda juga memicu pertumbuhan perekonomian dan perindustrian yang sangat pesat sehingga kemudian, 28 tahun setelahnya, pada tahun 1867, Kereta Api juga muncul di Hindia Belanda yang pada akhirnya memicu pertumbuhan perekonomian dan perindustrian terutama perkebunan di Tanah Hindia Belanda. A few days before the Delhi Durbar of December 1911, people began to pour into Delhi from all parts of India and beyond to watch the coronation festivities. The roads were washed; oil was sprinkled to keep the dust down; and the city looked spick and span. Motor cars which had hardly ever been seen before, came into Delhi and raced on the roads; and horses and elephants were seen everywhere. Queer-looking carriages passed through the Chandni Chowk and the Chawri Bazar, and strange faces were visible all around. Most fantastic and colourful dresses rustled in the streets of Delhi from long robes to short coats, and gowns to waistcoats, and head gears of a hundred kinds. Near the Fort, the glacis was levelled into terraces, and the slope leading upwards towards the road was turned into hundreds of stands which encircled the whole of the Jama Masjid, and along the Esplanade Road. From end to end of the Chandni Chowk, the central causeway was turned into one long line of wooden stands. In front of the Town Hall and around the statue of the English Queen, one enormous stand was erected. The stands continued through the Fatehpuri Bazar with its majestic mosque and grateful shadows, and continued to the Mori Gate and beyond. All this made Delhi look more like an exhibition ground than the city which was once the greatest in Hindustan. The younger population became enthusiastic at the prospect of watching the procession of the King. A real king they had never seen; and the stories they had heard about royal processions from their elders seemed to be coming true at last. They were dying to see the big fair. For the residents of Delhi never miss an opportunity of enjoying themselves, and this quality is peculiar to Delhi-ites alone of all the peoples of India. Even during the terrible days of 1857, when the guns were spitting fire, they used to climb up on the roofs to watch the fun of cannon balls shooting red hot out of the cannons mouths, and compared the firing to fireworks during the festival of Shab-barat. In 1922, Lombard Street was under construction as seen here. after it was determined that the 27% grade of the hill was too steep for most vehicles, and even pedestrians. The switchbacks were designed to increase the ability to travel safely on Lombard, the one way street was paved with red bricks in its now-famously crooked fashion, and a recommended speed limit of 5 mph was established. The street name Lombard actually has no link to San Francisco history. It is named after a street in Philadelphia. Lombard isn’t actually the most crooked street in the world – in fact, it’s not even the most crooked street in San Francisco. That honor belongs to Vermont Street in the Potrero Hill neighborhood where it has 1 extra turn. Special thanks to the SF Public Library for allowing us to repost the photo from their collection. Then/Now Old Mill Site A mill has existed at this site as far back as 1757. For more than two centuries, it was a manufacturing staple for the area, producing wool, grist, cotton, and more, but by the 1990’s it was abandoned and mostly burned down. Hari ini, tepat 55 tahun lalu, pada Kamis sekira Pukul 10.00 WIB, Jenderal (Anumerta) Ahmad Yani, Panglima Angkatan Darat RI meresmikan jembatan terpanjang di Asia Tenggara pada masa itu, dengan nama Jembatan Bung Karno. Jembatan sepanjang 1.177 meter ini membentang kokoh diatas Sungai Musi, Palembang. Proyek prestisius kebanggaan Bangsa Indonesia kala itu, akhirnya selesai dibangun dan siap untuk digunakan. . Penekanan sirine tanda selesainya jembatan ini dilakukan oleh Jend. Ahmad Yani didampingi Gubernur Sumatera Selatan, Brigjen. TNI H. Abu Yasid Bustomi atas nama Presiden Republik Indonesia yang terhalang hadir. Kemudian sore harinya, Jend. Ahmad Yani bertolak dari Lapangan Terbang Talang Betutu, Palembang menuju Lapangan Terbang Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta. . . Tragis, pada malamnya beliau diculik dan ditembak mati oleh pasukan Tjakrabirawa, sebelum akhirnya pada dini hari, Jumat 1 Oktober 1965 terkubur bersama 6 perwira lainnya di Sumur Lubang Buaya dalam tragedi pengkhianatan G30S/PKI. Setelah keluarnya Surat Perintah Sebelas Maret (Supersemar) 1966, berakhirnya masa Orde Lama dan dimulainya masa Orde Baru yang dipimpin oleh Presiden Soeharto, maka Jembatan Bung Karno diubah nama menjadi Jembatan Ampera yang merupakan kepanjangan dari Amanat Penderitaan Rakyat. . Untuk mengenang sang jenderal yang gugur setelah meresmikan jembatan ini, ruas jalan protokol sisi selatan Jembatan Ampera diberi nama Jalan Jend.
