Here is an early photo of Norwegian black metal band Ragnarok, circa 1994. Hailing from the same small city (Sarpsborg) as Metalion of Slayer Mag, Ragnarok were a perfect fit for Metalion’s record label Head Not Found. Although they had become label mates with Ulver and Gehenna, it seems they never reached the cult status of those aforementioned bands. It’s to no fault of their own though, as their first three albums “Nattferd”(1995), “Arising Realm”(1997) and “Diabolical Age”(2000) are immaculate studies pure black art. Not to mention the handful of amazing album they would release in the 2000s. After our successful hometown throwdown in the end of 2002 at the old Richmond Hill High School, we were finally southbound to the big city. Before this we’d make our respective hour-and-a-half commutes down to the Big Smoke by bus and then subway (Jon, Scott & Chris from Richmond Hill and Paul from Brampton), to see which new record we could afford at the original North side Queen Street @rotatethis or what patch sheet spoke loudest to us pubescent punks at @blackmarketvintage, before catching a show at The Big Bop. . This time though, we’d be the ones crawling up onto the stage at The Reverb for our first show in the city. Our chariot to Toronto arrived in the form of multiple cars dutifully driven by our very own parents. Even with all those patches in tow, it seems you can only be SO punk when you’re still just 15 years old... . Somewhere early along the way we got the attention of the one and only @strombo, who had just launched The Punk Show on @muchofficial and offered to slug his camera over to the club, have a chat before our set and film the show. The nerves of these two milestones culminating into one momentous occasion could have been enough to make us duck out the back for a quick group puke. But once George showed up and hit record, he not only made us feel welcome and appreciated, but also made it feel that us Grade 9 geeks deserved to be filming something for national television in Canada.
