Have you stopped dieting but still feel out of control around food? Something that is SO common is to release physical restriction of foods but still be mentally or emotionally restricting. Here’s what this looks like: 👉You give up dieting and allow yourself to eat whatever you want. You keep all the foods around and eat whatever you are craving, but after several weeks (or months) of this you’re still feeling out of control around food, still binging, and still having a hard time finding “comfortable” fullness. Then chances are, you are still mentally restricting (swipe for some examples👉): -Still conscious of everything you eat -Still judging your food choices as good or bad -Still feeling bad when they feel you’ve eaten the “wrong” thing or “too much” -Still trying to “control” yourself around food You may not be physically restricting or cutting out any foods/food groups, but if you still have any mental restriction going on - even if it’s subconscious - it increases cravings, makes you want those foods more, and makes it tough to stop once you start eating. Because you are sending your body a subconscious message: tomorrow Ill try not to do this again...better get it in now. Many people I work with tell me they don’t understand why they are still overeating or why they can’t stop eating certain foods. But that is because there is still some mental restriction left. To work through mental restriction, practice this: 1. Begin to notice any judgmental thought or guilty thought that pops up in relation to food. 2. Noice the thought, then reframe it into a more helpful thought: -I’m allowed to have ____ whenever I want. -It’s ok for me to eat ____. -There’s plenty of food, I can have some later if I want to. -When I’m hungry, I’ll eat again. Eventually, as unwind the mental restriction and give yourself physical AND mental unconditional permission to eat, you’ll build back body trust 🥳 #intuitiveeatingjourney - @alissarumseyrd on Instagram

This morning I watched a press conference from a canning redemption center called @surewecannyc in Brooklyn, which got an eviction notice just before the pandemic. This is one of the places where bottle + can collectors trade their loads for the refundable deposits, except this one is a nonprofit that also serves as a community center. . Sure We Can is at risk of losing its 14,000 sqft lot — which takes 11 million bottles and cans out of the wastestream and put $700,000 back into the community, according to a founder — if they can’t secure a $2.3 million nonprofit capital funds grant from the city council before the budget is settled at the end of this week. ($1 million of that would come from the Brooklyn Borough president’s budget, already pledged by Eric Adams.) This is a tough year for budget requests of any form, and the organization is asking supporters to press their city council members in support. . There are other places that take cans. But only SureWeCan has a mission to remove the stigma in working as a collector. “I have noticed over the years that we are treated as subhuman, and that’s exactly the opposite of who and what we are,” said Pierre Simmons, a Brooklyn canner who presented this morning: “We’re independent workers.” He spoke alongside a state senator, a congressman, a boro prez + a former governor of Chicago. Hey everyone! 🥰 There are a few new faces and I’ve had a few questions asking what a stoma is and why I have it. Let’s go! A stoma is an opening in the body. The type of stoma that I have is called an ileostomy (nope, I don’t have a colostomy). This basically means that the end of my small intestine sticks out my stomach and the grey bag on my tummy collects the waste (aka. 💩). I empty the bag into the toilet roughly 6 times a day (although this can vary a lot depending on what I eat/drink!) and I change the bag every 3-5 days (depending on how my skin is and if the bag leaks). There are NO nerve endings on my little stoma so I can’t feel anything when I touch it and it doesn’t hurt. Also, I can’t control it - it literally has a mind of it’s own and I can’t feel it when it is pooping. Why do I have this then?! Most people have a stoma because of Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis or Cancer. But I don’t have any of those conditions. I have Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS, for short). There are 13 different types and I have the most common, the hypermobility type. EDS is a connective tissue disorder which can affect any part of the body. It mainly affects my joints (they can partially dislocate A LOT) and my digestive system. My colon is essentially paralysed (colonic inertia) and I have multiple prolapses in my rectum. This meant that I was extremely constipated for my teen years (which I found incredibly embarrassing and never told my friends) and my body eventually became dependent on laxatives. I tried every single diet possible but it made little difference. Soon, even laxatives no longer worked and I couldn’t eat solid food as it was just too painful - the food wasn’t being ‘moved along’ my colon. My stomach was swollen and distended and it was agony. I was on a liquid diet for over a YEAR until I had my stoma surgery - which bypasses my colon and rectum so I’m no longer chronically constipated and I can eat whatever I want!
