Last week I made the decision to join a girls (who I had never met) trip to Turkey (my first time!) to celebrate my birthday! Day 1, yesterday, was spent with a rooftop birthday dinner with new friends, bottle table service at a lounge on the water, and ended at a small impromptu Turkish pool clubhouse party where the kind host surprised me with a dozen roses delivered at 4am! VOCÊ SABE QUEM É NZINGA? Nzinga Mbandi é um dos maiores exemplos de não-conformidade de gênero na África pré-colonial. Em 1623, Nzinga assumiu o trono de Ndongo (localizado no que hoje é Angola) e recusou a alcunha de rainha, exigindo ser chamada e tratada como rei! Além de romper com os padrões generificados, Nzinga organizou um harém com mais de cinquenta “CHIBADOS”, que eram “homens” que possuíam expressões marcadamente femininas, e viviam e eram tratados como “mulheres”, indicando já lá em meados do século XVII (até antes) comportamentos transgêneros. Como não eram homens e nem mulheres, as Chibados (que hoje podemos entender como não-bináries / transfemininas), além de xamãs das aldeias, eram conselheires da côrte, responsáveis por enterrar os mortos, e tinham a permissão de casarem com homens, e não sofriam nenhuma sanção social por isso. Tanto que Nzinga casou-se com algumas delas (mais uma vez, África avançadíssima como sempre né, mores?). Como guerreire implacável e muito estrategista, Nzinga também tomou o reino de Matamba (localizado em Ndongo Oriental). E a partir de seu comportamento contestador Nzinga criou a sua própria tradição, legitimando-se e permitindo que a sua posteridade (netas e bisnetas) ascendesse ao poder sem discriminação de gênero. Nzinga é uma figura muito importante na defesa dos povos africanos contra os portugueses. E seguimores, o mais interessante disso tudo é que podemos compreender que o comportamento transgênero não é uma invenção ocidental! O termo sim, mas as vivências já aconteciam em África, muito antes da colonização, tal qual comportamentos homossexuais. E é possível observar, sem romantização, que em muitas comunidades africanas, a transgeneridade e a homoafetividade, por exemplo, eram comportamentos orgânicos e naturalizados. Até porque quem demonizou esses comportamentos foram os colonizadores com suas mitologias cristãs não é mesmo? Sabato 19 Settembre 2020, si è svolta presso larea verde della ex-scuola di Miralduolo, la cerimonia di inaugurazione dellopera scultorea raffigurante SAN ROCCO dello scultore Urbano Mancini. La Pro Loco Miralduolo ha provveduto ai lavori ed allallestimento dellimpianto scultoreo. Lopera è nata da un’idea dello stesso scultore pochi anni fa, che ha elaborato lidea di raffigurare questa immagine sacra che rappresenta il Santo protettore di Miralduolo, lidea si è trasformata in fasi successive nel progetto completo che lo stesso Urbano Mancini ha donato alla comunità. Presenti allinaugurazione il primo cittadino di Torgiano Eridano Liberti, lassessore alla cultura Elena Falaschi, i quali hanno ringraziato elogiando lo scultore Urbano Mancini e la Pro Loco di Miralduolo rappresentata dal Presidente Sig. Claudio Baccarelli che si è prodigata per la buona riuscita dellevento. E intervenuto il Dott. Andrea Magaritelli che ha illustrato la storia del luogo ricavata da importanti ricerche storiche e quindi dell’importanza nei secoli delle chiese cristiane del territorio miralduolese, fornendo le note storiche e bibliografiche sull’origine di Miralduolo e della chiesa dedicata a San Rocco. Contestualmente alla inaugurazione dell’opera scultorea è stato consegnato ai presenti un opuscolo curato dalla “Fondazione G. Giordano” dove si racconta la vita di San Rocco protettore di Miralduolo. La scultura è stata benedetta dal Monsignor Giuseppe Piccioni parroco di Torgiano, il quale ha ringraziato lautore dellopera, parlando della vita di San Rocco e come ancora oggi sia attuale il suo modello di vita che costituisce per tutti un richiamo potente al Vangelo, il culto di San Rocco, guaritore della peste e simbolo di carità cristiana. Il Presidente della Pro Loco Miralduolo ha ringraziato: l’Amministrazione Comunale per aver consentito la collocazione della scultura, la società Wilsider per la parte strutturale della scultura, la Umbria Vetro per la copertura in vetro, la società Illux per l’illuminazione dell’opera, il Sig. ~~El baño~~ ✨En un principio los servicios sanitarios de la casa 🏡 fueron muy deficientes. Para la higiene diaria y el lavado 🧼 de la cara y de las manos 🤚 se usaban aguamaniles de plata, compuestos de una jarra 🍶 y de una escudilla, o bien escudillas o lebrillos de cerámica criolla o española. ✨Para las necesidades 🧻 se usaban bacines o bacinillas y orinales, bien sea de plata o de cerámica. Estas piezas se ubicaban en los dormitorios debajo de las camas 🛌 y eran recogidas cada mañana 🌅 por la servidumbre. ✨A mediados del siglo XVIII, fue cuando en los dormitorios de ciertas casas 🏡 se comenzó a utilizar un mueble especial, llamado banqueta de descanso 🚽 el cual consistía en una caja 📦 de madera con tapa y en su interior una tabla con un agujero 🕳, forrada de tela, del mismo diámetro del borde superior de un bacín. ✨Esta tabla era removible para poder vaciar el bacín. In commemoration of Our History, we honor this week Maria Rodriguez. Maria Rodriguez was a native of Cleveland and a graduate of Oberlin College and the Dalcroze School of Music in New York. She taught at Elizabeth City State Teachers College in North Carolina before moving to Washington in the 1950s. Tran finalizar la Guerra del pacifico, Isidora Goyenechea recibió por parte del congreso, una medalla de honor 🏅 x su labor determinante en la guerra 🔥. Posiblemente habría recibido 4 leones de bronce, provenientes del Peru, como forma de agradecimiento. La prensa chilena en 1883, caricaturizó la llegada de estas estatuas, en donde se observa al ministro Balmaceda (foto 2) regañando al intendente Mackena por este robo y lo insta a esconder estos leones del centro de Santiago (Av. Los Leones). Razón por la que habrían llegando al Palacio de Lota adornando las 4 esquinas de la propiedad. Otra versión cuenta que estos leones estarían vinculados a la familia Cousiño formalmente, desde el matrimonio entre Loreto Cousiño S. y Ricardo Lyon P. Esta ultima familia, habría regalado los cuatro leones en cuestión y habrían sido esculpidos a petición de esta familia en representación de su heráldica. Ricardo Lyon se convierte en miembro del directorio de la Compañía de Lota y Coronel en 1905. Since @humansofny shared Tanqueray’s story at Tannen’s, everyone has been asking “Who was Tony?” In 1944, at the young age of 14, Tony Spina began working in the stock room at Louis Tannen Inc. He rose through the ranks at Tannen’s, first becoming general manager, and then owner, until his retirement almost 60 years later. Tony started many magicians’ careers, and specifically gave young magicians opportunities to learn and grow. In 1974, he created Tannen’s Magic Camp, our week-long summer camp that continues to shape some of the leading performs in magic today. We have two photographers to thank for these images: William Roads, who took the earliest known photograph of Monticello, and the prolific Rufus W. Garden City Company Fourth in this series by Suzie Alvey. It features the next developer of Garden City. After Garden Citys founder, Alexander Turney Stewart passed away in 1876, Cornelia Clinch Stewart, his widow, continued his goal of turning it into a planned community. She died in 1886. The Stewarts had no children, so her heirs were on her brother, James J. Clinchs side and her three half sisters side: Emma, Julia and Louise Clinch, as well as Henry Hilton, her lawyer. Her relatives inherited property in New York City and about 7,500 square acres of the Hempstead Plains, including our nascent town, with a value at the time of $2,500,000. It would equal $70 million in cash today. However, factoring in the value of real estate in New York City and those 7,500 square acres now, it would be worth much more in 2020, probably in the billions. Cornelias relatives formed the Garden City Company in 1893 to continue our towns development. 5,000 acres east of Clinton Road out to Bethpage were empty. The land was divided and incorporated as the Hempstead Plains Company and The Merillon Estates. The remaining 2,600 acres west of Clinton Road and east of Old Garden City became the Eastern Section under the Garden City Company. The officers and directors of the Garden City Company were Charles Clinch, James Clinch Smith, Devereux Emmet, Frank Sayre Osborne, Stanford White, Maxwell Butler, Horace Russell and Allen Evarts. Predmetni kompleks nastao je i razvijao se kroz više od 3 vijeka, a smatra se da je baroknu palatu kao izraz vrhunca moći porodice krajem 17. vijeka podigao Đuro Dabinović zvani Kokot. Pored baroknog sklopa i složene hronologije, naročito je značajna zapadna fasada palate, prema moru, koja je izrađena od najfinijeg korčulanskog kamena, sa raskošnim baroknim dekoracijama, otvora prozora i vrata, vijenaca, ograde i konzola balkona. Kompleks danas predstavlja napuštenu ruševinu išaranu grafitima, utopljenu u more okolnih savremenih objekata podignutih na nekadašnjem vlastelinskom imanju, znatno većem od onog koje danas zatičemo. Ipak, njena raskošna ljepota i arhitektonski sklad su neupitni, pa iako je u zapuštenom stanju, predstavlja biser arhitekture Dobrote i Kotora. Ha fallecido Quino, el creador de Mafalda, a los 88 años. La muerte de Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, humorista gráfico e historietista argentino más conocido como Quino, creador de Mafalda, fue confirmada por Daniel Divinsky, editor de Ediciones La Flor, la editorial en que se publicó la historieta. La familia explicó que el fallecimiento se debió a razones propias de la edad y derivaciones de su salud de este último tiempo, habiendo vivido su vida íntegramente. Recién el 29 de septiembre se cumplió el aniversario número 56 de la publicación de la primera tira de Mafalda, en el semanario Primera Plana, en 1964. Joaquín Lavado, nacido en 1932 en Mendoza, hijo de migrantes andaluces llegados a Argentina en 1919, fue conocido como Quino para distinguirlo de su tío Joaquín, ilustrador que despertó su vocación de dibujante cuando era niño. Al cumplir los 88 años el Ministerio de Cultura de su país lo definió como creador de una parte de la cultura argentina y recordó que Mafalda ha acompañado con humor y aprendizaje a lo largo de muchos años a millones de seguidores de sus historias y reflexiones. . El humor de Quino fue ácido e incluso cínico, y ahondaba en la miseria y el absurdo de la condición humana. Hacía que sus lectores se enfrentaran a la burocracia, los errores de la autoridad, las instituciones inútiles o la estrechez de miras. Otro de sus recursos fue la reducción al absurdo de situaciones conocidas y vividas por muchos. Más allá de su pesimismo, sus historias están llenas de ternura y muestran especial simpatía por las víctimas de la vida, sin ocultar las fallas y limitaciones de los personajes retratados. Joaquín Lavado recibió, entre otros, el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de Comunicación y Humanidades y la Medalla de la Orden y las Letras de Francia en 2014. All the passages written on The Sanderson Witch Museum sign prop in the movie Hocus Pocus 𝔗𝔥𝔢 ℌ𝔬𝔲𝔰𝔢 The Sanderson House is registered with the Salem Historic Preservation Guild. Built in 1647 this house frame was erected by the Perkins family and later abandoned. It was altered to become a grist mill in 1658 after the diversion of a local stream by flooding in that year. It was never fully occupied until the arrival of three sisters in 1671. These three sisters remained apart from the strict Puritan community of Salem and excited it’s wildest suspicions. The Legend of the sisters grew and resulted in their arrest and hanging on October 31, 1693 on this very site. 𝔗𝔥𝔢 𝔚𝔦𝔱𝔠𝔥𝔠𝔯𝔞𝔣𝔱 𝔏𝔢𝔤𝔢𝔫𝔡 The Sanderson Sisters were accused of flying over fields by moonlight, of killing farm animals and children for use in casting spells, of changing the weather with a word and turning milk sour with a glance. They were accused of WITCHCRAFT and the strange contents of their house were enough in that year of panic, 1693, to justify their deaths by hanging.
