Sleep is like nutrition for the brain. Most people need between 7 and 9 hours each night. Get less than that, and your body will react in ways that lead even the most determined dieter straight to a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Too little sleep triggers a cortisol spike. This stress hormone signals your body to conserve energy to fuel your waking hours. Translation: You’re more apt to hang on to fat. Researchers found that when dieters cut back on sleep over a 14-day period, the amount of weight they lost from fat dropped by 55%, even though their calories stayed equal. Donors and dads—the two are simply not the same. A donor is not a dad; and it’s important to distinguish between the two and use the correct terminology. ⠀ ⠀ So what is a donor and what is a dad? A sperm donor is someone who is not intended to be the legal father of a child produced from his sperm. A sperm donor is not a parent and therefore does not have any parental rights. He is simply providing a missing link to help someone to build their family. Because some hunger is normal and expected when you’re trying to lose fat. . And it doesn’t have to be an awful experience. . But it does suck a little. . And these are a few ways you can make it suck less. . Eat a big ass salad every day. Seriously. If you struggle with fat loss and hunger and being in a calorie deficit but you don’t have one salad/day...you’re doing it wrong. . Water is good for you. . Shocker. . Seltzer (sparkling water) is, too. And the carbonation is Professor Flitwicks favorite way to curb hunger. . Watermelon is magical as fuck. And if anyone tells you not to eat it “because sugar” or “because glycemic index” they are, literally, Voldemort so tell them to fuck off. . Stop trying to lose weight as quickly as possible. You need more than 1200 calories people!!!!!!! I’ve seen so many “what I eat in a day” videos where people eat less than 1000 calories. Then people comment “I think you need to eat more”, to which others will respond “everyone’s body is different”. Yes, we all have different bodies and lifestyles. We all have varying energy needs. But unless you’re a literal toddler, you need more than 1200 calories. Why that’s become this arbitrary “calorie” goal for so many is beyond me. For most people, 1200 calories barely is enough to sustain proper bodily function just laying down and doing nothing. Adding exercise and daily activity increases those needs even more. Your metabolism down-regulates when you continuously don’t give your body enough food. It extends less energy so you can stay alive!!! And you often have a ton of unwanted side effects such as: ◾️ Feeling tired and weak ◾️ Cognitive impairment ◾️ Digestion problems ◾️ Hormonal issues ◾️ Low sex drive ◾️ Losing your menstrual cycle And so much more. Repeat after me “lasting change takes time”! One of the things I hear time and time again, week after week with my clients (and many of you who reach out to me) is that you haven’t yet seen results! However... Maybe you have only been on your plan for 3 weeks. Maybe you stick to your plan 50% of the time. Maybe you continue to stop and give up and start all over again. Firstly you need to remember that change and progress comes in many shapes and forms. Just because you have not seen the scale shift in the first few weeks that doesn’t mean you haven’t made progress in other areas. You might notice you have more energy, you have had a mindset shift, you are stronger, clothes fit better. But you can not expect drastic changes in a few weeks. It’s simply not realistic. ( well not for us mere mortals anyway 😅) The first 8-12 weeks of a fat loss program usually is just scraping the surface and it will take you that long to start to notice changes in the mirror. However you may start seeing clothes fit better, or that you make better food choices, or you can complete 4 workouts instead of 2. You don’t need to be all or nothing. Perfection is not the answer here. But you so need to be consistent. If you put in small efforts each day to be as adherent as possible these small changes will add up. Small progress is still progress. Believe me when I tell you, small changes add up FAST! So start small keep it simple. And anybody that tries to sell you a “reset” anything that has to do with the body is likely full of shit.⁣ ⁣ I think I understand what people mean when they say “how do I reset my metabolism”, they probably mean how do I increase my metabolic rate after experiencing metabolic adaptations to, presumably, a caloric deficit and weight loss. ⁣ ⁣ We do this with reverse dieting, incrementally increasing calories with aims at allowing individuals to maintain on higher calories than they currently are after a fat loss diet. ⁣ ⁣ As for hormones, yes these can be manipulated, but not by me nor any other online coach that is selling a program and is not a medical doctor or endocrinologist. From young to old, in sickness and in health, doing Get Ups consistently, consistently well, and with consistently rising difficulty or load, can hold immense potential for improving both the mind and the body.  Consider this: Strength is not just the state of our muscular system. Rather, our strength is the result of the interconnectedness of our stress load, breath, mind, and body all working in concert with each other. In a sense, our Strength is a manifestation of confidence bestowed on the physical body by the nervous system in response to the degree of synergy, health, vitality, athleticism, and symmetry jiving within it. So, strength is like a physiological “score”—which is why it depletes faster in a sick person than in a person who just doesn’t go to the gym. In this light we can also begin to understand why humans placed under stressful enough scenarios can accomplish amazing feats of strength, like pick up a car to save a life or why some people, no matter how much they lift, never get any stronger. The Get Up teaches anybody how to breathe, coordinate, move, stabilize, lift, control, and stay patient and focused all at the same time. And while it takes time to learn, that time leads to far more body awareness and functional improvement than you’d ever achieve doing everything you gain apart from each other hoping everything “plays nice” in daily life. I get it.⁠ ⁠ Youre not as active as night and will be heading to bed, so consuming carbs which will increase insulin, will lead to fat storage.⁠ ⁠ The problem with this viewpoint is that it doesnt take into consideration the most important variable when it comes to fat loss...⁠ ⁠ CALORIES.⁠ ⁠ You could eat all your calories and carbs at dinner if you wished and as long as your energy expenditure exceeded your intake, wed see fat loss.⁠ ⁠ Now could the timing of your carbs and meals INDIRECTLY affect fat loss by impacting performance and appetite regulation?⁠ ⁠ Yes.⁠ ⁠ But this still comes down to energy balance.⁠ ⁠ For the majority of people, who arent athletes, basing your meal and nutrient timing on what will personally help you regulate your intake is likely a smart idea.⁠ ⁠ Ironically, I find that a lot of clients often see better results by slightly backloading their calories and carbs to the evening when:⁠ ⁠ 1. I’ve said this before but don’t justify eating more grass fed beef just to get more omega-3s. It’s a pretty small amount. You might as well supplement with a high quality fish oil. Eating more peanut butter to get protein? It’s a better source of protein than the beef is for omega 3 but it’s not great. Use it as a fat source.
