News 21st September Reading entrepreneur features in book and donates 1,000 masks to Ghana By Olivia Gantzer @oliviagantzer AN AWARD-WINNING business owner from Reading has been featured in a unique book celebrating female entrepreneurs. Akua Wood, founder of Sheabutter Cottage from Reading, has also donated 1,000 masks to Ghana during lockdown. She was selected from thousands of applicants to take part in #SheCan365, which told the stories of 365 female entrepreneurs over 365 consecutive days in exactly 365 words. The #SheCan365 project began when multi-award-winning online marketing specialist Helen Pritchard challenged former journalists Michelle and Christian Ewen to publish a new, inspiring story online every day for an entire year. Akua Wood, Founder of Sheabutter Cottage said: Out of all the female entrepreneurs in the UK, I am honoured to have been chosen to be included in the #SheCan365 project, which is a world first I hope telling my story will inspire all future female entrepreneurs – empowering them for success. As well as manufacturing vegan, hand-made, natural, fair-trade beauty products and toiletries in Reading, I also set up a co-operative in Ghana to help produce the sheabutter we use. Since lockdown, I have donated more than 1,000 reusable cloth face masks to the Jilima Coop @jilimacoop as well as two districts in Ghana to help curb the spread of corona virus. 🗣 You all hear me say it when I speak, educate or coach 👀 You read it in post and on my blog 📷 the #powerofphotography 👉🏻 We as photographers are the historians of the day, regardless of the type of event, the good, the bad and the ugly and all those life moments in between! 👉🏻 This tool we use to capture what is happening now, often preserving unrest and sadness as well as happier moments like a wedding or celebration! 👉🏻 Photos mean something different to each view as they look at them and that’s part of the power of the photos, if we have done our jobs and captures a moments frozen in time that photo will provoke a different emotions and take that viewer back to where they were when the events in the photos were happening ... 👉🏻 Photos can be used to make a change and to remind us that we have a voice and that no matter the outcome in that photo, again happy or sad, we must use that voice and take a stand and help set up the next generation for a new set of photos... photos that will also capture and record moments that that generations will be fighting to change as well as I am sure many new ways to celebrate! 📷 The power of photography will remain no matter the decade and those timeless and impactful photos that we look at today and often still cannot believe we are still seeing being captured by today’s photographers documenting as part of our history and all those decade old photos will remain part of the collection with today’s photos that will become part of future decades and the story and power of photography will continue and reminding us all how we lived and how and who we loved 🙏🏻 - @bobbibrinkmanphotography on Instagram

*on this episode of unrealistic scenarios...* So yeah, I’m deciding that I’m going to just continue posting things that I want to, as irregularly as the thoughts pop into my brain, at whatever time, even if it is in the middle of the night and there’s low engagement. I have no schedule, no rules, no strategy that I’m following. Probably should tho. But no. I want to continue developing my own ideas, developing my own voice / way(s) of storytelling, calling attention to the things I personally feel connected to and willing to share of my own accord, regardless of timing, engagement, or perceived professionalism.
